  • wow this is great

  • Julie is a new discovery for me, and a a delightful one. I becme an immediate fan. To me, much of what I have heard so far is faithful to the (INHO) truth of the Main Tradition. Old School with modern refinements. Thank so much for posting!

  • Only Ms. Julie, in jeans and a summer top with a penny-whistle in her back pocket ... she's so amazing both a person of music and a person in person. :-)

  • Wjere the heck does she get the breath to play that blistering whistle part at the end? Incredible!

  • whos playing guitar?

  • Suas e!!

  • Simply superb!

  • This song is so great! The whole thing is fantastic but I especially love the last minute or so where Julie plays the tin whistle...such an awesome vibe going on, I just wanna jump out of mu seat and dance around! (And I DON'T dance!)

  • Angelic music! And this is an insult to Julie!

  • I like three things in life, and three things only. Butter, potatoes, and women.

And maybe I can make room for Julie's music.

(before you all get too upset look up the lyrics)

  • nice throwback to the song, JMD. And I TOTALLY agree with your addition of Julie's music ...

(FYI for anyone else who doesn't speak Gaelic: "'S toigh leam-fhin buntata 's 'im 's na caileagan" means "I like potatoes, butter and women")

  • Anyone know who the gentlemen playing with her are?

    -jcr

  • John McCusker Fiddle

    Ross Martin Guitar

    Éamon Doorley Bouzouki

    Martin O'Neill Bodhran

  • Thanks, I like to know who I'm listening to. The band is great.

  • Jammy!

  • Great music!

    Greetz from Germany!

  • De an t-ainm a th'air and dàrna phort? Chan eil mi ga tuigsinn oir tha i a' seinn cho luath! Tha i dìreach eireachdail fhèin, nach eil!

  • cha d'fhuair mi e nas motha ach tha mi fior ag aontachadh leibh!!

cuideachd, eil fhios agaibh co th'air a bhodhran? An e martainn o' neill a th'ann?

  • This is just wonderful!! Julie's colorful voice, and the excellent musicianship really drive this melodic song.

By the way, I would really appreciate it if someone could tell me the name of this tune. I'm vague on Gaelic folk music! I live in Alabama USA.

  • It is called Puirt, short for Puirt a Beul which means mouth music, and it is a combination of three songs, you can find the songs on her album which is called, 'Mar a tha mo chridhe-As my heart is' it's really good and it comes with all the lyrics and a literal translation in English. I highly recommend it, you can probably get it off Amazon.

  • The first song is:

'S Toigh Leam Fhìn Buntàta 'S Ìm

which is on her second CD, Cuilidh.

The second and third songs are:

    Nam Biodh Agam Ghioball Bodaich

    and

Gobh Bh' Ann A Hogha Gearraidh

They are both on her first CD, Mar A Tha Mo Chridhe

  • "Gobh Bh' Ann A Hogha Gearraidh" is also known as "Jenny Dang the Weaver"...something I've only now realized, after listening to this song for months thinking, "Gee, it sure sounds familiar..." I've been listening to versions by Alasdair Fraser and Natalie MacMaster for years!

  • a mean whistle player, a smile that could melt an iceberg, yep, I'm in love too!

  • Fantastic sound!

  • hehe i was there (backstage pass :D)

  • Haha great to know... there I was imagining it was about love or sth. Who knew potatoes and butter could sound so mcuh fun and so exuberant?!

  • I do not speak Gaelic myself, but I doubt she is making it up. Julie Rocks!

  • soccerates...you are truly a moron!

  • M E R A V I G L I O S A

    She's wonderful. no other words.

  • HAHAHAHAHAHA !

  • BRING THE BEEEEER!!!!

  • I'm nineteen... My top three favorite bands are Between The Buried and Me, Protest The Hero, and Interpol.

And I STILL think this lady is amazing. She is definately in my top ten after her hearing her perform Hug Air A Bhonald Mhoir. I'd marry her, haha.

  • there's too many old people into folk these days and that's what is making it un cool. I want to see younger people in the crowd.

  • the only way that will happen is if a) they market it better and b) they have more widely appealing folk acts like the waterboys and the levellers.

  • They *were* young when they first started listening! But I agree - the more young people the better, to keep the folk festivals going and to spread the word.

  • Folk is my favourite genre and I'm nineteen! There are quite a lot of young people into folk, actually- although admittedly we're usually a bit eccentric.

  • hear hear

  • There are too many old people these days into Dylan and Neil Young and that's what makes them uncool ... I'm sorry???? These two, to name just a couple, are picking up younger audiences with every generation. Don't confuse 'cool' with 'fashionable'. What's 'cool' is what stirs youthful emotions, creates a frisson - that special connection - between artist and an audience that is bonded by that connection and wants to share it. 'Fashionable' is a temporary glue that binds some and rejects others.

  • beatuful voice

  • The first song in the set is the first from 'Púirt a Beul' on 'Cuilidh', and the other two are the second and final pieces from the púirt on 'Mar a Tha mo Chridhe'.

  • Absolutely amazing - i love this so much - she is fab.

  • brilliant this. her cuilidh album is pretty new isn't it? i saw her near me recently =] amazing... and i remember that story :P he he john mccusker is also a leged. well they all are, but yeah. i love cambridge folk fest! just got my tickets for this year! anyone else going?

  • Yeah she is awesome, i go every year to cambridge got a few others lined up, but cambridge is where it all started for me will be my 22nd festival and 22 years old wahoo!!!

  • rave lol! did she tell the story about the man on his wedding night when you saw her?

  • I can not remember to be truthful, you got any other festivals lined up? been to any yet? x

  • The first part of this song can be found on her latest album, 'Cuilidh'. It's about an old man who likes potatoes, butter and women, apparently!

  • Excellent set and great performance. I don't know how she finds time to breathe! And she's very lovely too. I know the last tune as 'Jenny Dang the Weaver', does anybody know the names of the others?

  • Awesome! Which album is this set from?

  • Culidh.

I think it's all one track.

  • Other musicians:

    John McCusker (Fiddle)

    Ross Martin (Guitar)

    Eamonn Doorley (Bouzouki)

    Martin O'Neill (Bodhran)

  • Creo que me acabo de enamorar ...
