That's CRAZY!!! I remember this so clearly. I'm from Winnipeg and when I was a kid I would sometimes leave the old black & white TV in my room on at night while I fell asleep and I'd usually put it to channel 3 (PBS) because I figured the programming at that time of night would put me to sleep since it's pretty boring to a kid. But that song!!! I still remember that tune. This is wild, wild stuff! lol, what a flashback! That tune is imprinted in my brain for life!
@gshowguy No, usually the next scheduled program would air immediately after this ID aired (and promos would air before it), and the only "national" PBS IDs aired were usually right at the end of a program (the usual PBS "P-head" logo) nationally distributed by PBS, with the aforementioned promos and this ID airing afterward..
@gshowguy I see, well there would be usually such aired after this ID if it was at the beginning of a following program produced by a PBS member station and distributed by PBS...
@RetroToledo Maybe to prevent confusion between a station's terrestrial channel number, and its channel number on cable (which usually differs on some cable tv systems), but they could indicate both on their ID though, which I've seen some stations do....
I remembered watching this ident as I was waiting for programs like Prairie News Journal and Mystery to come on, living in Portage La Prairie, Manitoba.
This was the fall/winter variant used throughout the 1990s until a rebranding to Prairie Public. A different ident was used during the spring and summer months in this era.
Yes, I indeed remember the spring/summer version, it had a white/blue motif with clouds in the background, as well as different music (a piano melody of sorts). If I ever find that version, I'll post it up here as well...

@likethepear Glad to hear, this ID brings back memories for me as well (being a PBS addict, even back then). :D

What's the name of the song beginning at 0:11?

@WestWash97 I don't know myself, my guess it that it was production/library music either of the stock variety,or custom-composed made for this ID....

Were there any national PBS station IDs after this one?

@pvx Oh, OK. By national PBS station IDs, though, I meant like WGBH, WNET, MPT, SCETV, etc.

It's got an "ALF" feel to it.

My all time favourite PPTV station ID.
I saw the recent one with the "-DT" in the callsign.
Where's the channel numbers?

@jaworskij Not sure why they don't do channel numbers anymore, you'd think it would be at least helpful.
