  • @gerioani Yeah, I had someone else played in the back and did my best to sync.....lol.

What I think it was a built-in camera of an old laptop. It randomly had some glithes and delays (may be volume related? sampling speed? low memory etc.). I have a new laptop and HD camera (for the Carnival of Venice) since. That is what you get from an amateur...lol. Cheers~!

  • absolutely outstanding, well played, would you be able to email the sheet music to me please.

    ronniebigpants@yahoo.com

    thank you

  • Fantastic. Can you send it to me please. My email is - rburrows99@gmail.com Thanks

  • Wow that was a great performance. even though you say you are an amateur you sound like your a pro! could i have a copy of the sheet music please i was wanting to arrange it for an orchestra. my email is jasper.dommett@hotmail.com thanks.

  • Hi Terry great performance of that song !! I have searched for ages to try fins the orginal verision but it was never published, could you maybe email me a copy of the version you have as i have a solo competition in a few weeks and it would be great if i could play this. If so my email is waynefloody@gmail.com thanks

  • That was really beautiful. You say you are an amateur but I think that you're being really modest; I wish I had your tone.

Please can you email me a copy of the sheet music? My email address is saulfk@hotmail.co.uk .This will give me hours of practise on my flugelhorn, because I'm a terrible flugel player, and it will be quite a challenge. I might try to see what it sounds like on tuba! I'll post a vid of it.

Anyway, that rendition was extremely well played.

BTW, just got and account for that!

  • Are you doing this at work? Looks like a lab in the background? Whatever it is, your performance was awesome!

  • @TerryLeeCanada How long have you been playing the cornet Terry

  • @turborocker5000 Hi Charlie, I played cornet during my high school days. 26 years later in 1998, I pick up again and joined a local brass band "Little Mountain Brass Band" starting from a Green stage (for beginners and re-starters). I am an amateur player forever...lol. Cheers~!

  • @Lyn53yM Sorry my friend but not synchronized fingering and breath in wrong place according to what we hear means you don't play.

  • @gerioani erm not sure why im tagged here? but im pretty sure terry is playing this as he wrote all the sheet music out himself so that he could.

  • Terry, it's my pleasure. I teach classical voice; music is absolutely imperative in a healthy society, and your music is really wonderful. Because of people like you, we are able to see some of the best that humanity has to offer. Please do keep up the good work. My very best, Lindsey.

  • I know nothing of brass instruments apart from that I love the sound of them :) This is my all time favorite piece of music and MY GOD did you do it MORE than justice. Thank you SOOOOO much for sharing your GIFT with us :) You really have put a MASSIVE lump in my throat x YOUR AMAZING x JAO

  • @jamesalexanderonline Hi James, although not sure whether I deserve all of your nice compliments, I do appreciate them all! Cheers~! Terry

  • I had tears pricking at the backs of my eyes by the end : )

  • @Del350K4 Thank you~!

  • In response to glasswizard's comment about the tone - this one is played with the cornet and in the movie it is played as a flugal horn solo, hence the difference in the tone although they are both b flat instruments.

  • can you please send me the music sheet? im a trumpet player too

  • This is a big help me now play it :D ill just follow the fingerings :D

  • great

  • Very nicely played. Bravo. Only one criticism - slightly rushed in places, with some phrases jumping the gun, showing you are not quite centred. Perhaps because you are nervous in front of the camera?

  • Nice solo. Can i get notes for this version

    mlogan@net.hr

  • Personaly, I think the tone gives it the edge on that played on the film, it has a more "spanish" ring to it. well done mate, well played.

  • Wonderful solo. Great tone and expression. I too would like to know where you can obtain a Music Minus One of this work. Thanks for sharing.....

  • @jttrumpet55 As far as I know there is no Music Minus One. I used the downloaded orginal track sound from the Brassed Off Movie, made my own note (very primitive....), recorded over it. Since you are a music major you can take my pencil made note and correct it? I will be delighted to send you my hand drawn note which I know not perfect (but I managed to play by the ear..lol), hoping that you would perfect it and share back. Cheers, Terry

  • well done,beautiful

  • Do you think you could make a tutorial or could you make the sheet music yourself pleassssseeee I really need it I've looked everywhere ad i can't find it I'm desperate xxxxxxx

  • Omg ure amazing, do you or does anyone have the sheet music for cornet cause I'm studying gcse music and I would love to try and play this for my solo or can you just tell me the notes thank you keep it up :D xxxx

  • @theannoyinorange4eva Hi, the first time I heard this piece from the video "Brassed Off" I had a burning desire of playing it myself. So I understand how you may feel. I listened this solo probably more than several hundreds of time to draw up my own primitive note in year 2000. It helped me to play along and memorize right notes. Drop me your e-mail address I will share my hand written note. I have no formal music background or lesson so no guarantee for accuracy or literacy. Cheers~!

  • @TerryLeeCanada heeey thank you so much my email is hannah.l.j@hotmail.co.uk xxxxxx

  • werry werry good

  • thinks its fake but thats my own appiniun

  • @heresjohny32 Haha, I take that as a compliment. This one was a lot easier than Ave Maria by Gounod that I posted. Cheers~!

  • Just amazing. I played cornet for ten years in my local band and this was always a piece I loved! Genius!!

  • troppo bravo.....suono limpido e molta anima nell esecuzione del brano....bravissimo.....

  • Delightful! :)

  • v v nice sound. i'm going to try this tomorrow.

btw, what is the location for this video? It looks like some kind of crime scene, with plastic sheets over the equipment to preserve fingerprints...

are you the cornet-playing detective, who breaks into a tune to aid thought?

  • Muy bien logrado. ¡¡¡FELICITACIONES!!!

  • very well done :) especially you didnt have any music :)

  • not bad,not bad at all.

  • where'd u get the backing track without the flugel?

  • What cornet are you using?

  • you have a fantastic talent and a perfect ear to be able to memorise and play so beautifully and with such feeling. love it to bits

  • @35littlepeople Thank you~~!

  • fantastic playing!! can you send me the sheet? it wiuld be really great!!

  • @michitrompete As I explained for previous enquiries, there is no known sheet for this piece, sorry. Cheers~!

  • @TerryLeeCanada There is, but you can't buy it. My band played it two weeks ago. You need to know someone "in the know" and no I can't get anyone a copy!

  • That's great!! i like the sound very much! can xou send me the sheet, and music, if you can? Thanks

  • @hodosattila ..Sorry there is no sheet for this piece, played by the ear. Cheers~!

  • AMAZING just like the film

  • @MrTomvlad Cheers~!

  • By the way mate, where'd you get the backing track without the flugel solo?? If u have it without the original flugel solo could you email me it please mate? :)

  • Thankyou for the speedy reply, thanks a lot anyway and by the way, awesome playing !!!!!!!!!! :)

  • Hi, I'm looking for the solo music so I can play it on my cornet. But i've looked all over the Internet and can't find it and I really want to be able to play the solo... Could you please get back to me as quickly as possible, thankyou :)

  • @Ross0995 Hi Ross, as far as I know there is no solo cornet sheet music available for this particular piece. So I simpy followed the sound I hear from the original movie track and momorized it... took me 10 years......lol. Cheers~!

  • did you use the movie's track, or find ur own backing track?

  • @cavallodelmare Hello Dave, yes I simply downloaded the movie's track from Youtube., adjust the pitch then played over it.

  • Great tone, man. All these people that are commenting about needing a flugelhorn...sure, that's what it is originally played on, but with that deep tone, there's really no need to. Beautiful.

  • from argentina, this cornet make me feel in the heaven, very very good music

  • @Domingo23100 Thank you for enjoying my play, Incidentally, "Don't Cry for me Argentina" is one of my favour music. Chees~!

  • Well played sir, a beautiful tone !!

  • One of the best pieces of music, ever, Nice job Terry.

  • @jimthenailer Thank you for the nice comment Sir.

  • Man, Have You Got the Score To This Song?? Can You Please Send It To Me Via PDF Or Even Mail. I Have Looked Everywhere. Ive resorted To Plkaying By Ear And That Doesnt Work lol

  • @Jackwhiplash Hello Jack, there seems to be no known exact score. So I played by the ear. All notes are in my head....lol. Cheers~!

  • this is not a cornet solo its for a flugel horn, did you re-write this for cornet?

  • @kirstymhazell You are right, it is played with a flugel horn in the movie "Brassed Off". If I had one, I would have played with it, probably a bit more melo..ish. There is no sheet music that I know of, so I listened and follow the original sound off the movie. In fact, I played over it. Thanks for dropping by~! Cheers~!

  • Brassed off film, amazing film the girl in it plays a flugel horn

  • @devilchild616 Yup ! what a fantastic movie~! It has story, music, and inspiration...the whole nine yards.

  • he's so not playing that ...just watch the fingering to the music.close at the begining but totaly out half way through...nice try

  • Hi hillbillycol, Someone else raised that question earlier and I reply with an explaination. Thanks for the sharp observation. Cheers~!

  • sorry terry not meaning to say your a fraud...maybe it's just the vid speed to music speed where the difference is applied...still an excellent piece of music and your obviously an accomplished player

  • there is always a delay with the sound :) you can only get it near enough perfect if you transfer the sound directly to te sound card on the computer, or the recorder device :)

  • @latham37 I guess an internal clock for each devices are slightly different and they accumulate...Thanks anyways~!

  • Thanks~! I downloaded the original Brassed Off audio as the background (I played over it, mix the two by adjusting the volume of the orginal track in between the solo segments).

  • Do you have the sheet music for that?

I´d love to play this, too!

  • There is no sheet music, I followed the orginal music by listening 100's times ...lol

  • so good! Congratulation!!

  • Thanks~!

  • Very nice! I am a cornet player also and have posted a video or two, but please tell me how do you make the recording sound so 'cornet-like'? When I playback my stuff, it sounds awful! Any tips would be much appreciated! Thanks for sharing.

  • Hi Trevor, try to adjust mic input level. I recall adjusting my laptop mic input level way low so that I could be playing closer and yet not overloading the mic. Hope this helps. Cheers, Terry

  • The acoustics don't seem right for the room you are in.

  • Hi~! Someone else raised the same question earlier. It is a large open starage area with high ceiling and I like the acoustics. Cheers.

  • great playing!

  • Thank you~!

  • Very nice congratulations!

What kind of Cornet/mouthpiece are you playing?

  • I played with Yamaha YCR633oST and B&H Kosikup Reg 3 mouth piece as it seems to give a warmer sound (over my usual Vincent Bach 1 1/2B mouth piece).

  • What a lovely cornet sound and vibrato! Oh, and your phrasing and technique were superb too. You must have a brass band background??? I loved the movie "Brassed Off". Thanks for sharing!

  • @besson12 Thank you for the nice comments! I played through high school band for 6 years, then 25 yeras later I joined Little Mountain Brass Band, Vancouver. It has been around 10 years now and I begin to appreciate my own limitation as an amateur.

  • Fantastic!

I play cornet (only amature) and would love to know where you got the music for this as it would be something I would love to try! Thanks!

  • Someone said there is no official sheet music available for this piece. It was 2001 when I first listen to the original play and I spent several days to make out the notes and memorized. I was able to play just this year though. Sorry that I am not helpful but suggest you do the same what I did, listen and play along. Cheers~

  • I have a copy!

It was arranged by Kevin Bolton for a friend of mine a few years ago. It became a brass band favourite and then ended up in the movie. I played it last week on a brass band gig.

  • @TPLR2 Hi Tom, that souns great~! Is it for the whole brassband or just the solo sheet? Would you be willing and able to share it over e-mail, it would be awefully nice?

  • great job ... :)

  • Thanks!!

  • is the cornet a Schilke XA1?

  • Yamaha YCR6330ST. Thanks for dropping by and have a great day~~!

  • Well done!! ... One of my favorite tunes. That earlier posting of someone saying that you are lip sincing must not be a brass musician. I play and I must say that your tone ,phrasing, musicality are tops!! ....Stanton Haugen

  • Nice to have a positive feedback from a follow brass player. Thanks~ Stanton!

  • I hope you do another one!! ... great stuff. I'm working on something myself

  • well done that is really good i think it nowt wrong with your music its fabulous

  • Thanks kittykatt~ I needed that...haha.

  • TerryLeeCanada,

i'm sorry but u are a milli vanilli lip-syncing cornetist and it's very corny!

  • Thanks for pointing out the out-of sync. I knew about it but did not think very much.

After the recording, I did not like a couple of bars (somewhere between 2:48 ~ 3.07)and re-record only those two bars, digitally replaced it.

Please listen to the other piece I uploaded - Ave Maria, see if you still think I am a lip syncing player.

In any case, I assume you are a pefect professional musician and I will be just happy to remain as an imperfect amateur cornet player.

    Cheers,

  • Oh Terry,

    You are being sooo modest.

    Love it !

    Beautifully played .

    Regards; AllanB

  • Hi Allan! Nice to see you here~. You probably bump into my video by accident? Hope you are enjoying the summer with your trumpet. Cheers~

  • labaratuvarda................ manyak bişeysin be olum sen .. insan değilsin :D

  • Thanks for listening in, hope you enjoyed it.

  • TerryLeeCanada:

    Great tone and preformance.

I love your cornet sound on this wonderful tune. Tell me, as a starter on an Olds Special Cornet 50 years ago before jumping to trumpet,,,, what cornet and mouthpiece are you using?.

Keep it up !!! And let's hear some more from you !!! OK..... !!!

  • Thank you very much doc!!!

  • Great job - I make my swing band play this with me from time to time. I may use a cornet now as an option for the flugel, but I still love my flugel too!!! And this is one of the best melodies ever.

  • Very nice. As an attempted cure of my midlife crisis, I just bought a Cornet on Ebay. I've been playing other instruments for years so I'm hoping to get an express pass to competency. Very inspiring and I never thought a lab could have such good acoustics. What part of Canada are you in ?

  • I am glad to see someone overcoming midlife crisis with the love of Cornet, good going Charlie~! Have you been playing other brass instrument? It looks like a lab but it actually is an open storage area for lab instruments. Because it is a fair size with high open ceiling, it gives a good acoustics that I like. A built in microphone on a new Toshiba laptop seems to have very good performance as well. Cheers

  • Actually I briefly picked up the Cornet when I was a young lad in the Navy League of Canada but did nothing with it except drive my instructor to tears. I guess you could say I'm revisiting my childhood. As I mentioned though, or inferred, I have a reasonable background in music theory via guitar and more recently accordion. I'm in London, On. hence my inquiry as to where you are. I thought if you might be from this area you might suggest hang outs or connections to learn the instrument.

  • Can you suggest a good book/CD combo for a starter ? I can't really use the excellent resources of Youtube as my speaker out jack is busted on my laptop and the volume is too low on my built in speaker. Cheers.

  • To be honest, I have zero experience in music, theory or lessons. I just followed other people or try to experiment myself. Well, you can say a pure amateur...lol. Perhaps join a local band and stay with it like I did?

  • I also played Cornet during high school for 6 years, then 27 years later joined Little Mountain Brass Band in Vancouver starting from Green Band (for a starter or re-starter). It has been 10 years since.

  • Very Very Nice, top end, middle and bottom, and agree, I like the cornet better than Flugel.

  • Thank you!

  • beautifully played...sounds better on cornet than flugel,I should know my husband was solo cornet for many years-and he was good! very enjoyable Terry...

  • Thank you for the nice comment. Did your husband made any recording of his play on YouTube?

  • no he didn't do a recording on you tube, but many years ago his band released 2 records,he has just discovered YouTube and will be looking for more of your recordings! p.s. his favourite solo is "zelda"...

  • beautiful ...

    I love this song
