Well...since bass baritone and tenor are just manmade divisions of a continuous spectrum, I see a bell curve there. You can divide it in halves instead of thirds and use that rationale, but let's face it. There's a bell curve at work here.

Most "basses" aren't even real basses; they're people who couldn't get over their own voice change and became afraid to sing up, just as most tenors are people who held onto their upper range.

I think it's quite the opposite of what you said.
