"Allright mate i'm ronnie, this here's reggie. We've come to reposess this property under the name of Kray. If that don't work for you we'll just make up camp in the corner here". "YOU can Fuck Off ! This is my Gaff !" "Ere Ronnie get the camera" "RIGHTO!"..later... "Alright June, whats been happening?"..."These two bloody Jacks come to fuckin take over our gaff!" " I'll Sort It" "You allways say that!" "I FUCKIN WILL !" "NO you won't, Just Fuck off!" "Fine I Will !"....Henry? Henry?....
If only they had invented the door and bolt lock, those doves would have been safe, unless, of course, the jackdaws also invented the battering ram or lock pick. Oh well. I suppose a sheltered space like this is very precious to birds, and they will compete for it.
@grig24x It's not funny... it's sad. The gentle doves have no way of defending themselves. They lost their nest and their eggs. What a frightening experience for them!
@CaptainStriker all that does is place blind significance on the importance of life. Those doves kill other creatures too. Just because there's no video of them killing other birds doesn't mean their lives are worth more than the jackdaws.
But its typical "classic corvid" behavior. As these birds are part of that class of birds, similar to; Ravens, Crows, & Magpies. Bird "plunderer's" for sure, to say the least. It is sad to witness, but not totally dishearting, considering how prolific Pigeons & Doves are. I wouldn't be suprised, that this female would have started breeding and re-building her nest, almost immediately as there known to do. All this said, its just another part of the typical "predator & prey" daily cycle........
I've been an avid birder, for some 15+yrs now. And i've seen QUITE a bit, in that time. I've taught a youth birding classes, at my local Audubon Society as well. However....This is some amazing footage, i disagree that these are Rock Doves, or now commonly known as "Rock Pigeons". Albeit i could be wrong, considering the camera footage is blurry. They look more like, Wood or Band-tailed Pigeons, at least too me. The Jackdaws however, are relentless in there pursuit, of this doves nest and young
Yes, I think so, too. And now the nest box sits empty. I wonder where the Rock Doves will nest. A shame they lost their two eggs to the Jackdaws. Egg Incubation is 18 - 19 days. I saw the first egg on March 16. The first chick would have hatched in about 3 days.
Ouch! I caught your reply about this on the other video last night, but I didn't get the full meaning until this. Indeed, it's very sad, especially knowing that the doves were so close to hatching. And the Jackdaws did it, not because they needed the nest, but just out of pure nastiness, while the Kestrals seemed to be respecting the nest. It's a shame.
Looks like you need many more nests to accomodate all those bird species. Poor things, they all just want a home to raise their young.

@samson4474 Good ideas! And yes, a sheltered space is valuable to these birds. Safe for their offspring.

I love Jackdaws and all Corvid species, mostly because they're black, medium sized - Big birds and amongst the smartest birds on the planet.
It is sad that they use their superior power though to ruin the Doves nest. But hey, it's nature.
Strong ones will survive.

The Kestrels have nested here for several years. Perhaps they view it as "home."
