The thing about tsunamis is that #1 they are not predictable as of now and #2 if one is coming, YOU CAN'T FUCKING SEE IT. Its relatively FLAT and LONG until it approaches the shallow water, which forces it up but by then if you on the beach you are FUCKED.

The thing about tsunamis is that #1 they are not predictable as of now and #2 if one is coming, YOU CAN'T FUCKING SEE IT. Its relatively FLAT and LONG until it approaches the shallow water, which forces it up but by then if you on the beach you are FUCKED.

Tsunamis are not always seen as a huge wave towering 50-100 feet high. In this case, the ocean level was piled up behind the wave, and the enormous force of all that water pushed ashore and further inland all at once. The type of wave produced is largely determined by the topography of the shore ~ the slope of the sea floor leading to the beach. If the shore shallows suddenly, you get these types of waves. A gradual slope will produce higher waves.

Tsunamis also differ from regular ocean waves in that they are not merely being propelled by the wind on the surface, this wave has immense power and speed (like that of jet plane) that extends to the ocean floor. By the time they hit land and break they are a terrifying force. This is an interesting video because the people don't know what they are looking at, are oohing and ahhing about the big waves, not knowing their lives are in great danger.
