@dobbythe9th Some of the best bassists of all time use picks. Matt Freeman from Rancid is a prime example. I play bass in a screamo band. If I didn't use a pick, it would be impossible to play intricate bass lines. It doesn't matter that he uses a pick, it's his way of doing it. Also, in case you hadn't noticed, his main instrument is guitar.

@saitensluvchild i doubt it. i play a lot in that genre and i can play the riffs fine, and keep in mind i haven't been playing long. i understand that some good bassists do this and, quite frankly, i don't care. i think bassists should play with their fingers, it separates us from guitarists and gives us a much better sound. playing with a pick sounds too flat and you cant get much personality from it.
