  • what if you use wd 40???

  • @armybucket It isn't suited for this application. It isn't really a proper oil. It will fix squeaky hinges and prevent rust and has a lot of other uses but gun cleaning isn't one of them. A gun oil is what I would recommend. WD40 gums up.

  • I used some solvent on my Benjamin 397 and 392 do you think I should worry?

  • @ericdgreat2005 I wouldn't have done that but if it is still working then I guess it is ok. Take the barrel off next time if that is possible.

  • I wanna see the other video lol

  • @gamewiz0070 What other video?

  • @phgHunter You said Now if u wanna see how i clean barrels that get shot a lot post a comment, and tell me if u wanna see that other video so i wanna see the other video lol

  • Please make a video on how to get the lead fragments out

  • hey, great video. Questions: you mention leaving some oil residue in the bore for rust prevention. However this diesels upon firing, which is bad for the gun and REALLY makes the bore dirty. Is there a non-petroluem oil (or an oil that won't combust)? I only know of silicone spring oil from crosman... Or is the process: clean the bore, than pass through oiled patches, then clean until dry (with dry patches). But then theres no rust preventive oil left.... thanks so much for the vid.

  • @generfeld I will leave some in the bore for storage but if I'm just cleaning I will run another dry patch through after the oil. You are correct, it is never good to fire your gun with too much oil in the bore. Spring airguns are more prone to dieseling than PCPs. Even after cleaning the oil out with a dry patch my spring gun seems to smell like it dieseled. I have never had my Discovery diesel. As far as I know, they don't make a suitable oil with a high enough flashpoint to avoid dieseling.

  • @phgHunter

can i take the barrel of a gammo big cat 1200 air gun to clean it

  • @MultiSniper70 I don't think you can. Just use Rem Oil and clean it from the breach to the muzzle.

  • @phgHunter i bought a cleaning rod from walmart about a month ago, and now that i am ready to clean the barrel, i am looking at the rod only to find it slightly bent. it is not completely straight, and i am worried this will ruin my rifling if i have an unstraight rod grinding down the inside of my barrel. what are your thoughts on it?

  • @thebowlzack Is it a one piece coated rod?

  • @phgHunter its a 1 piece black steel rod, .177 caliber, so it fits down the barrel like a pellet-with no extra space on the sides

  • @thebowlzack If it is not coated and bent badly then I would return it.

  • @phgHunter too late to return it, which i why im wondering if it would severely harm my barrel, by the way i straightened it out most of the way (didnt know i could bend a steel rod), but the coating on it is fine

  • @thebowlzack If it isn't severely bent and coated then try running it down the bore without anything on it. If you feel it rubbing a lot then I wouldn't use it.

  • @phgHunter thanks bud. i straightened it out as much as possible and it went down the barrel like a bar of soap on a waterslide. i have those flat cotton/silk patches, and i want so sure how to get those down the barrel, so i rolled it up, shoved it in, and pushed the rod in behind...the patch didnt pick up too much stuff because it didnt have much friction, but i couldnt fit it in any other way. i did that about 4 times, every session getting loads of black soot out. thanksagainfor all thehelp

  • @thebowlzack What attachment do you have at the end of your rod? You can use a jag for patches which looks like a drill bit kind of that spirals down. Then there is a patch attachment that basically just has a slot to put the patch in and push it through.

  • @phgHunter oh my god........thats what that little screwy hole thing at the tip is for???....an attachment???? i just stuck it straight in with a square of the silk shoved in before it LOL

  • @thebowlzack lol yep

  • @phgHunter why does nobody tell me these things!

  • do you lubricate your barrel with an oil?in my own experience it will make inaccurate shots.i'd rather clean it with dry patches.

  • @nathoi You have to use something to break up the lead. Oil is the best thing if you cant take the barrel off of the gun. If you can seperate your barrel from the seals completely, then use solvent. After I dry the solvent out I put a patch of oil through it. Then I dry that out. You don't want to have bare steel exposed to air, it will rust.

  • there is a divided house on this, even among the experts. some swear by barrel cleaning, others say that the pellet acts as a skirt and collects any debris/dirt thereby making barrels self cleaning/

  • @46FreddieMercury91 yeah, I think running at least dry patches every now & then cant hurt. Also it seems heavier pellets are better in the powerful guns, keeps velocity down and theres less lead left in the bore...

  • @phgHunter, By all means yes. otherwise, you can show a picture slide show of the products you used. take Ted's video for instance. "Edgun matador PCP barrel cleaning"

It's a constructive criticism, up to you if you'll consider it. keep it cool, no offensement. cheers.

  • @jeffbroodwar Ok. You may want to post some videos of your own before you critique other people's videos. It just seems to go hand and hand, a person critiquing someones video never has videos of their own. That is just my constructive criticism. This isn't a movie you had to pay to see. No one forced you to watch it. The point of this video was to let people know the do's and don'ts when they clean their barrels and when and when not to clean them. Sorry I'm not perfect like "Ted".

  • test

  • Hey man, I dont mean to be rude but I actually felt I wasted my time watching the video. for improvement, you could go through the process and show the audience step by step how to do this. too much talk and no hands on at all. hope this helps.

  • @jeffbroodwar You really need me to show you how to stick a pole in a pipe?

  • A guy at a hunting store said to me not to clean the barrel because it was unecessary, only lubricate it with oil.

  • @skyJets Always clean a new one. Don't clean a used one unless the accuracy decreases.

  • what gun was this barrel from?

  • @herobubba1960 A beeman with interchangeable barrels.

  • @phgHunter oh ok thanks

  • Just take your shoelace and clean it ....

  • @jan14200 I'm not a dune coon.

  • Can you still do a video on how to get the lead fouling out of the barrel?

  • @XxrushxX1 I might. To get lead out you sort of have to use solvent and that is risky business if you don't know what you are doing. You don't want to get solvent on the seals.

  • you should always use a bore snake when possible. rods can damage the crown if you're not careful..

  • @skahle395 Yes, you can fuck things up if you don't watch what you are doing, just like any every day task.

  • Ok thanks for the info I'm buying a bore snake I'm sick of the long process of patches I use to clean my gun every time I used it but since u told me to only clean it every 1000 pelets I'll stop thaks

  • @phghunter I just would like to know if u only shot a few pelets could u run a oiled bore snake through and then follow it with a few clean patches?

  • @sk8en13 If you only shot a few there is no need to clean. I would only do this every thousand pellets or so.

  • will WD 40 work to clean the barrel of my remington airmaster 77?

  • @158057 I would not recommend that. WD40 is known to cause problems with airgun seals.

  • @phgHunter question real quick i have a gun cleaning kit but its to big to get down the barrel if i wear to just shoot a peice of cleaning cloth out the barrel ? would that clean out some of the dirt ?

  • @WthzoroProductions Shooting a spring airgun without a pellet or with a very light pellet or mass will damage the gun. It wouldn't be very effective anyway.

  • @phgHunter its a air pump not a spring and what can i do to clean it withought a bore snake or cleaning rod

  • @WthzoroProductions You could shoot cleaning pellets through it but they aren't very effective.

  • @phgHunter ahh never seen those before :o im in canada though

  • could i just buy some .177 cleaning pellets and push them through? or shoot them?

  • is the rem oil a solvent?

  • @andzlou No. I don't recommend using any solvent in airguns because it destroys seals. You can but make sure it doesn't get on any seals.

  • @phgHunter will it say solvent on the container?

  • i wana c another video

  • im the 1000th video :O

  • Hi there I love your videos. I was wondering if you could make a new video on how to clean a old gun barrel. Because I have a 1980 pioneer rifle and I am not sure what is the best way to clean it. thankyou

  • @crocop5247 Sure. Thanks for watching!

  • informative video.

  • Great video, Very helpful!

  • @cordless33 Thanks for watching!

  • thanks, im going to buy a bore snake right now

im used to putting so many patches through my air rifles its ridiculous

is there anyway to make a video showing how to change springs in an air rifle to put larger springs inside?

i realize you need a spring mount, but i would really like how to learn to change a spring safely. :)

    thank you.

  • @downtownhunter I don't have much experience with spring guns. I have had my Sierra Pro apart to clean it really good, but I can't be much of a help when it comes to mods unless it is the Crosman 17xx or 22xx platform. Thanks for watching!
