@saxxonpike maybe you can answer my question. Why is this calling a 303 bassline?? I've heard it a lot like a 808 kick drum. Why are they using numbers for things like kicks or basslines? srry for my bad english:(
Hey, in the piano roll you adjusted something down at the bottom which changed the sound as it played, I've just got volume control there, how do I get what you have there?
i just started making beats almost 2 months ago, i mostly do that oldskool underground instrumental, if you got any constructive advice for me, i have them on my channel, appreciate it :)
Dude hope I don't annoy but I want to cut the notes of the violin sound in order to make a melody with it; it's completely impossible for me to play with a low tone of the note because it sounds no more like a violin, or to cut the note because the "hold" Is too extended, I tried cutting it on INS -> CUT & RES but when I try to hear it after some experiments it refuses to sound as a demo of what I changed; what the hell im doing? For what is SMP, INS, PAN, VOL, CUT, RES, PITCH, MISC & FUNC? :(
im so mutherfuking confused!!!!!!!!!! i dont even kno where you begin!! where did u get ts40 watever shit its called??? can you explain where you got that and not just freakin start off!?!?!!!? (sorry for all the language)
I have a problem finding the original sound you used, but it may be because I am using FL studio 9...never the less, if you can help me with this in FL 9 I would be most grateful.
Great video, man. I totally agree with you about the preset thing, how people need to experiment and learn how to create their own sounds. Sometimes the folks who rip on FL Studio are the same folks who don't know how to do anything but use built-in presets and samples that come with a program.
The default at the bottom of the piano roll should be velocity. Just right click and drag from left to right however you want it to effect the sound of a certain instrument. If you right click the gray box, to the left, you can change it to whatever you want.
I like to show examples of how someone can create their own good sounding patches in FL Studio. Most of the presets aren't really that great, and you don't always find what you're looking for. If someone can take this and learn more about creating their own patches to make their own music sound more unique, I've definitely achieved what I'm hoping for by uploading this video.
@saxxonpike Thank you so much for this video! I uste to write only orchestral music because making a cool sythn was just frusterating, but since you broke it down it seems a lot more of a reachable task! MORE VIDEOS PLEASE LOL :D
Mostly, I make my own presets on my songs for a certain reason, Im trying to hide the fact that im using FL Studio. and thus, leading me to the knowledge of crafting your own sounds..
I use Sytrus most of the time on making synths and effects. kinda fun, but irritating when you cant make the sound that you want to achieve.
PS: Thanks sanxion for posting this Tutorial! I've been wondering what TS404 sounds like.
thats some cool shit dude, you should make a few rap beats and sell em to wannabe rappers they would lap your shit up,my mate does it and sells em at 500 a pop on cds to the lebs in sydney, if u did it online u could make a fortune coz u make that shit look so easy, i would kil to be able to make that, im buying a midi keyboard right this second
Anyone can make a beat, it's a fact. It takes a lot more to make good ones that are profitable. Suffice to say, I don't think I've got that sort of skill, I'm moving into sound engineering. But this video can at least prove you can do a lot with a little, in a pinch.
FriskyLemons, I know where to put the notes because there's a piano on the left side. Also, the little info bar at the top of the screen shows which note you have the mouse over.
I've been using FL since 2002 and writing music for a few years beyond that in old tracker formats. Recently, though, I've been taking courses in music theory, sound engineering and production :)
While it's true you won't get the silver box sound using any digital method, you can sometimes use replicas in a subtle manner without anyone really noticing.
Thanks a lot man! This totorial has been very helpfull.

Dude, using distortion on a kick will always give you a click of some size. Short percussive sounds basically are Clicks or Transients. Clicks contain a lot of high frequency content.

If that doesn't work, then you could try using an Equalizer to lower the volume of the higher frequencies.
I like the sound, I think it's a good lead. It's different from the TB-303 and still really good, It's like a yogurt kind of smooth, squishy, but almost like wet concrete running through your fingers saw lead, you know what I'm talkin' about?
Hey, I like your clean language when explaining the tutorial, very informative! It's hard to see what you are doing though, if you could record with that thingie other tutorial videos have when its zoomed in on the coursor area it would be much easier to understand what you are doing and what you are using. =) Thanks for doing these vids!

fast distortion an bloody overdrive are distortion people usually don't use them on kicks its too powerful for the bass in the kick
xxspadekingxx 3 years ago
Dude, using distortion on a kick will always give you a click of some size. Short percussive sounds basically are Clicks or Transients. Clicks contain a lot of high frequency content.
Distortion creates even more high frequencies. So the solution is to keep the output volume on the Distortion effect at a low setting. Also lower the volume of your host program, in this case Fruity Loops.
If that doesn't work, then you could try using an Equalizer to lower the volume of the higher frequencies.
