  • My best friend a dude from Georgia ... in High School @ CA ... tried to tell me about Skynyrd ... but I was too hung up on Pink Floyd at the time to listen ... later found out that Skynyrd was just as cool in a totally different way ...

  • So much talent together on stage! Allen Collins and Steve Gaines together is like to have god's right and left hand together :D

  • A flying rat trap bought from Aerosmith..

  • What a Sweet Heart.. sharing the stage with his brother~~

  • @SteveGains Yeah those are some infamous last words. But that's how Ronnie Van Zant was. If it was your time to go then there was nothing you can do about it. His father said in an interview that Ronnie would always tell him that he wasnt going to live passed 30 and that he knew that was his cut off. Even the other band members said he would talk about it.

  • Ronnie had to be the coolest presence to ever walk on a stage

  • @wazzzit he was about like Ric Flair when he walked around on stage,he didn't need a robe or anybody to hold his drink while he was out there, but his presence made you feel like you better not mess with him.

  • Fly High Free Bird!!!!!

  • Oh and also Johnny VanZant SUCKS!

  • @blocklandiscool not on his own stuff .. His first 3 cds are excellent.. even the 4th one with i'm a fighter had a couple of good tracks.. Brickayrd road had that and one or two others.. then.. the wheels fell off the bus.. he started doing the Skynyrd tour and that was that

  • Lynyrd Skynyrd would still be going today, now, theres a band playing under the name Lynyrd Skynyrd, But thell never top Ronnie and the guys!, Rock on in the highlands!

  • love this video......makes me smile & happy ;)

  • @tdrewke I do understand your point of view, but just think these people really do Love The Lynyrd Skynyrd Band. The song Simple Man has made them cry I'm sure on occasion as myself. Other bands never gave me such a feeling of being a part of something as Lynyrd Skynyrd Band.

  • mind blowing. just mind blowing!!

  • *__*

  • Fantastic smoking leading break from Steve Gaines. Who had so much ability and yet, like Ronnie, his life was so tragically cut short before the full flowering of his/their respective musical talents. Some wonderful music created in too short a period of time and the lingering thought of what might have been, had their lives not sadly ended at such an early age. RIP Free birds.

  • As one of the people who created this, I have mixed emotions. I'm glad fans get to see it. But neither the band nor I and my crew get a penny out of these hundreds of thousands of views. Doesn't seem fair, somehow.

  • @tdrewke PART TWO,,,Please try to understand us everyday good old boys are still around and love to set around and talk about back what Lynyrd Skynyrd Band music burned into our soles. Those Freebirds in the sky would say,,,It's not ALL about the money anymore. No disrespect but,,, Ya know what I mean?

  • @tdrewke I'm sorry to hear about that. Can I offer you a thanks for this video Thom? I greatly appreciate watching this concert.

  • he probably dont do the solos anymore because his hands aint as fast as they were when he was in his 20s or because of the plane crash

  • Billy Powell was an awesome rock pianist. The sheet music for his solo on "Sweet Home Alabama", along with a couple of his other solos, can be found at manymidi.com/sheetmusic.htm.

  • THANKS TO WHOMEVER FILMED THIS ONE..... WHAT A GREAT ONE ;) SUNSHINE

  • Gary is so talented also,

he just so casually smokes and plays

never seen anyone smoke as much as he does

and play uninterupted, EVH even puts his smoke on a

    clipped string

  • RIP all the fallen rebels of Lynyrd Skynyrd!

  • TURN IT UP!

  • biggest band in america flying around on a 30yr old plane , with a dopey crew that forgot to fuel her up

  • saw them a month before this show at Nassau Colliseum on Long Island and then saw them in Florida 5 days before the crash - so great and at the top of their game - STILL miss the shit out of those guys...

  • priceless, totally

  • I've seen THE HOTTEST SOUTHERN ROCK BAND Lynyrd Skynyrd in Oakland Ca. 07-02-77 One Hell Of A Concert.

  • I was the video engineer who recorded this show on 1/2" Sony reel-to-reel videotape (a VTR for the Hall of Fame at this point). I created the burn-in copy to help us recognize bootlegs... which this must be. But I enjoy the idea that people can see this great performance. My friends and I (the Director who cut the show live and three camera operators) carried the equipment to an ancient, scary elevator to the attic room of Convention Hall, and took it out every night...

  • @tdrewke great job of catching the Steve Gaines solos! there needed to be a camera on him pretty much all the time...what a guitar player. Wish I had been there to see it live!!!!

  • @tdrewke Thank you indeed!!!!!

  • was this ashbury park?

  • 2:12 Gary does a great solo. He doesn't do the solo these days, I think he should

  • GAINES! one of my favorites

  • most awesome band in southern rock history. stuff tht makes u proud to b a simple white man who likes beer and good music.

  • all ican sayu is WOW!!!!!!!Steve gains,Allen collins,Mr Ronie van zant!!!

Look at Ronnie.in the solos,he tells the guys off!Good or bad!!!!He was the heart & Soul of the band.God bless!!!One day when i pass,i hope to meet all my heros!

  • @muffyomara ... helluva job, you had. Very cool.

  • The good Lord must love southern rock. since he has called so many of the orginal band home.

  • What about the Okie?

  • I was at this show !! And many others .... thank god for U-TUBE because i was waisted and now i get to see what i missed !!! For those who dont think this band started southern rock, WAKE UP !!!!!!

  • @muffyomara You weren't at this show, stop trying to take a piece of that victim pie. You know as well as I do you weren't at this show.

  • @pittresident BRO...... IM 50 YEARS OLD. I WAS ALSO THE TOUR PHOTOGRAPHER FOR THE OUTLAWS 1979-1981. SO FUCK YOU AND YOUR "VICTIM PIE" BULLSHIT.

  • Can you imagine being at this show?!!?

  • this may be the only footage of donnie and ronnie

  • My ISP bill is worth paying just so I can see this stuff, Just unbeliveable.

  • @JoeThePhilosopher - you're kidding, right?

  • Joe the philosopher is a is a contradiction to your name when you make uneducated statements.

If you researched the song you would find out it was more of a song of rebuttal than insult.

Ronnie said they loved Neal Young's music,But Ronnie felt that Neal's southern man Lyrics unfairly potrayed ALL southerners as racist. Ronnie said "I felt Neal was shooting all the ducks to kill a few"

The Birmingham verse meant Ronnie did not Approve of Gov. Wallace's treatment of Blacks-Hence BOO BOO BOO.

  • Ronnie being the simple man he was said "Watergate does not bother me" Well pretty self explanatory to me!!

As they say in this time "WHATEVER"

  • Philosopher MORE like shit for brains?

  • @PORKCHOP948 lol i agree

  • epiC!

  • The Lynyrd Skynyrd Band at there peak. Simply the greatest of all time. Ronnie, Allen, Steve, Billy, Leon.....Rest in peace brothers.....you will never be forgotten. The music is timeless.

  • what about gary rossington and artimus pyle?

  • I'm not forgetting Gary and Arty.....my previous comments were based on the Freebirds that are no longer with us.

  • @MrWaddlesgee3 The best, fo sho

  • Always loved this band, and what a great bunch of musicians, kinda under the radar in that way me thinks,

  • Steve Gaines is BAD-ASS

  • Yeah ... Steve Gaines really smoked that solo! ... A great fucking band at the height of their powers ...tragically cut short just a few months later ... but the music sounds better today than ever ... No contemporary band can touch this classic Skynyrd rock 'n roll ... not by a country mile!

  • Fantastic video! And yes its sad what would happen to the band 3 months later.

..Damn!! steve gaines killed that guitar solo!! You just dont see this level of musicianship anymore.

    Whatever happened to the honkettes?

    RIP Cassie

  • man were did u get all these videos, they are sick bro

  • Nice! Some extra vocals one doesn't here on the other similar videos. Thanks Lynard Skynard for your music1 I only wished that a we had a band form N.C. like this that supoorted the Southern cause. CSA forever and thank you Arick Larrison Lovedahl for your CAS service. N.C. gave the most men and lost the most men for the CSA. I am a proud Southern son of a CSA war veteran. The South was invaded and the Generals from the South were superior, but lacked men and supplies. Read the true CSA history.

  • im from the same town as them

  • Fucking awesome ...

  • Thanks for sharing.

  • You people are so dense, The man that walked up was Donnie Vanzant, ronnies brother, How he loves his mother, Donnie became a shit head with 38 special, but this was a good scene to see two brothers hug, and the band was drunk, Allen Collins picked it up at the end. No way was Donnie Vanzant walking into Lynyrd Skynyrd. The end.

  • the band wasnt drunk, they claned up about this time, thats why they wrote that smell.

  • yep they were drunk as skunks, and started to clean it up after Gary Rossington crashed his brand new car and broke his arm. That smell was written by allen , and ronnie about how fucked up gary was. gary jams great on that smell. Funny that gary is the only one still alive.

  • skynyrd is so fucking underrated.

  • i think there rated just right.

a kickass band that made one of if not the best song ever.

there only negetive was that they tragically weren't around for that long.

  • best version on here by far

  • Man Gaines just shreds that Strat!! What a solo!!!

These dudes always in control, never screwing up. Looked like wild ass partiers (and I'm sure they were), but always held it together on stage. They owned the stage. Greatest rockers ever!!!

  • Wellll said!

  • steve gaines is off the hook a bad mofo

  • this is what i saw nassau coliseum 76. cassie/ i wanted to be her

  • Do you sell this incredible video? One of the best of the originals!

  • Donnie & Ronnie together. Doesn't get better than that. And what about the Honkettes?? Awesome..... loved this video. More please. Fly High Free Bird

  • Only 3 months after this was recorded some of them were killed. RIP.

  • I grew up with these guys playing in the '70's. Never appreciated them as much as I do now. The most selfless group of musicians I've run up on. Not an ego in the band, and it shows in their music...awesome stuff...

  • these guys culd out play anybody from this generation!!!

  • and did, except for Hughie Thomasson of the Outlaws. Dead even on that one !!!!!!

  • Goddammit, Why did they ever get on that stupid plane ? The most awesome band in rock n roll .

  • @boopyfat other question, why they didn't survive ? i mean, dean, ronnie, cassie, and steve? well, they are rockin` in heaven waiting for their partners.

  • @boopyfat only the good rock band players die. only the good die young :/ another example Kurt Cobain

  • @anthonydaddy123 -------Kurt Cobain killed himself. . .not like Steve Gaines.. . . Lynyrd Skynyrd.. . "in German" Es ist einfach nur traurig!!! . . . .

  • @boopyfat Because "RONNIE SAID SO". The band had already booked commercial flights, Cassie had made arrangements to ride with the equipment truck and The pilots assured them there was NO DANGER. Ronnie Van Zant told them.."ANYONE WHO ISN'T AT THE SHOW IN BATON ROUGE TOMORROW NIGHT IS FIRED..IF IT"S YOUR TIME TO GO..IT"S YOUR TIME TO GO".. Infamous last words...This was a time when Ronnie's bullheadedness worked against him for the last time. So sad.

  • @SteveGaines lol, u dont think ronnie knew?

    ronnie knew my friend.

he knew, he wanted the band to go all at once.

  • Here at 4:38

  • I have that first lead on 8 track is the only time I ever heard it played besides near exactly in this.I never thought I would see the day I would see this version lead being played.Their will be one less pint of Jack Daniels in the world come tomorrow.

    -R.R.

  • 2 Thumbs up I just wish they would release this as a official DVD....Thanks for posting

  • Billy tore this up too! Will be missed along with the rest. RIP BP

  • A rare clip of Ronnie and Donnie singing together. Man, Steve tore it up on this version of Sweet home Alabama!! Awesome!!

  • That's Ronnie VanZant.. his brother , Donnie was in 38 special at the time..

  • Yes Ed's song. Gary cant play his part (still ove Gary tho)

  • not the same without Ed King on lead.......but everyone has their own way of playing it... yes I love Gaines....but its Ed's song....

  • I am to old and dumb to video respond, but look up lynyrd skynyrd I aint the one. 1975. It shows Allen Collins playing with original band, except for the drummer, but no 3rd guitarist. you can find it on Utube.

  • Collins really didn't do much here blinky. This video highlighted ronnie with his embarrassed and foolish brother donnie jumping on the stage. as far as Allen Collins solo's there are quite a few. Rossington had to play sideline rythym when Allen ripped em out. For example the needle and the spoon, whitch was ripped off of Utube, another is I ain't the one, and will do a video response.

  • dude youre such an asshole for putting down on donnie because if you pay attention instead of running youre mouth ronnie motions for donnie to come out and sing with him i been knowing them for a long time now n none of them are stuck up just keep youre rude ass comments to yourself opinions are for assholes like you

  • @fubb1977 i was just gonna say the same thing!!!! you're right

  • YEP,ALLEN COLLINS ROCKS

  • I think their all are fuckin good, but Allen Collins is still my favorite!

  • collins was great...would have given anything to have seen him live. if you look at all the live videos of this song he never plays the solo though....its always either rossington or king. anybody know why?

  • If you are familiar with the band you will know where Allens solos are. What's Your Name, Freebird, T for Texas, Smell, End of Alabama, Needle, Simple Man with Rossington and Crossroads. There are more. Allen was a great lead and rhythm player.

  • yea he was definately an amazing player

  • I saw them front row ,MA Spring 1977.Just incredible.Such a tough emotional year,lost my brother in dec.of 77 in a accident.Thanks for posting.

  • OMG OMG!

Ronnie and Donnie, so fucking amazing *_*

How I wish to see this 2 singing until today with skynyrd =/

    RIP Ronnie.

  • July 13, 1977. Only 3 months later, Ronnie Van Zandt and other members would die in a fatal plane crash. They had performed in Greenville, SC and were on their way to Baton Rouge, LA. The original Street Survivors album was pulled from shelves because it had them standing in flames, which MCA felt was too graphic. That cover is a collector's ithem today.

  • Ronnie ruled that band with an iron hand. Demanded they sound just as tight live as on record, and I wish more bands had that attitude. The 'new' Skynyrd sure doesnt.

  • Convention Hall, Asbury Freakin Park, N.J...I went to this Show!!!!!!Still live Around the shore area. ALRIGHT!!!!

  • this is so fucking cool. such an amazing song.

  • looks like ronnie wearing a dashiki in this on..lol

  • Can't help but sing along.. Can you?

  • great american patriots

  • OOOOOOOOMG this is like the greatest duo ever! brother to brother, rock on and keep kickin ass!

  • ronny looks so proud of his brother

  • awsome this band old and current kicks ass

  • Love seeing Ronnie & Donnie singing together!Fabulous

  • Steve Gaines. Steve Gaines. Steve Gaines!!!!!!

  • Great stuff you're posting, my friend! :o)

  • classic skynyrd....awesome
