The problem is, this world has so much evil in it that men need something to believe in, that's where god comes in no matter what religion you are a part of. That's why any/all mainstream religions exist.
I can't count the number of times where I've doubted the existence of god, but in the end I choose to believe because of what I said above.

Hmm, how many did it take to execute the 911 attacks ? Answer - 19 hijackers. A) UN Resolution 47 clearly stated that for a plebiscite to be held, all Pakistani forces must withdraw from Kashmir. That was a precondition which Pakistan never met.
B) More than 500,000 Hindus have been displaced from Kashmir while Pakistan has injected thousands of outsiders into its part of Kashmir. Geographic and demographic identity of Kashmir has altered tremendously and therefore a plebiscite holds no value.

"secure the withdrawal of tribesmen and Pakistani nationals not normally resident who have entered the state for the purpose of fighting".

I think most of the hateful religious people would leave much calmer lives if their hate wasn't celebrated by local interpretations of their religion, and therefore, celebrated by their culture. If their religion preached strongly against suicide, there would be far less suicide bombers.
If the holy books could really be interpreted to justify anything, proposition 8 would never have been passed, and the "Moral Majority" would be completely fractured. They wouldn't agree on anything.

1st Paragraph very right, 2nd so wrong. your assuming that these people ACTUALLY READ the bible and base their belief system on what they think it means. they dont read, they go to church on sunday and the priest picks what parts the people are gonig to hear and gives HIS thoughts on what it means. if they truely read the bible for themselves they would equate caring for the sick with universal health care and 'love thy neighbor' with equal rights for everyone(including gays) and vote that way.

Your point is so good, I feel the need to change my position somewhat. These holy books might not actually encourage violent behavior, if read in their entirety. I agree that the real problem is "holy men" who twist the books to fit agendas.
However, parts of the Bible and Quran do encourage violence and intolerance. At best, these messages are in contradiction to the "overall message" of the books, but they still provide ammo to haters.

Wow, i learned literally nothing about the Mumbai attacks through this video. I could of done without Cenk's epiphany when i concluded most of that years ago.Pakistan and India have had three wars between them, one still ongoing. When a country is at war attacks like this are to be expected. The outcry to this perfectly demonstrates our tribal nature, a few westerners died so now it's a tragedy.

Despite being a believing Catholic, I can see where Cenk is coming from with some of this, but I think he's also missing a few things.
One the only dilemma with fighting back with ideas is, "What if people don't like them?" Are you going to ENFORCE those ideas? If so, how would you do that? And explain to me why it would be just to do that.

If you're looking for proof of correlation between lack of religion and societal health, check out how the US compares to countries in Europe such as Sweden and Norway. The societal health of the US is abysmal, and the lack of sufficient social safety nets is a key reason why so many here cling to fervently to their religion. It gives them comfort and humanitarian support.
And don't give us strawmen arguments such as ending religion would end all wars. That's not what Cenk said.

One could just move to Sweden or Norway I suppose. I prefer the San Diego area here in Souther California. With all its' societal problems I much prefer San Diego to anyplace in Europe. Each of us is different I suppose. Take care of yourself, your family , your friends and neighbors and the rest will take care of itself.

To continue, WWII was justified because a group of unified people threatened civilization. The problem with addressing terrorism is that it occurs in many different forms. Abortion clinic bombings, christian mercenaries, muslim terrorists, etc. You fight and kill some of these individuals and they become martyrs. What the hell do you do then? Educate. Get rid of religion and righteousness and teach that right and wrong come from within and that a pious or iconic figure is not necessary.

I believe religion divides instead of uniting people. You are with us or against us. I have this thing called a brain that I use. I have morals and integrity but I am not religious. Look at the photos of the attackers coming out on the internet the attackers have orange arm bands. This is the symbol of the Hindu Extremist Groups. The attackers are clean shaven and wearing western clothing. There are reports of alcohol being consumed during the firefights. Not something a Muslim would do who was about to be martyr.

This goes beyond religious belief or secularism. There truly is a defect within the human race that allows for this kind behavior. People have killed in the name of God, Allah, Oden, Ares, ect. but have killed just as easily for Freedom, Democracy, Communism, the mother land or Deuchland. It's not the ideology or the religion. The problem is us, not them or they but us. We are all capable of terrible things.
