One area he missed, batteries. I use a battery pack grip when doing video, because even with a large video card you will run out of battery way too quickly with out the battery grip or an external power source. I have numberous batteries and chargers for charging from 12 VDC. I may very soon be using a larger external battery and external power jack.
Really love this vid. Very informative and I love the shoutouts to Cdn manufacturers. One concern: Only one attachment on the follow focus? Folks suggest to me that I go for a system that attaches to both rods for a more sturdy connection. What do you think?
@scandlous08, yeah, right. ROFL Just depends on what you are shooting. If you are panning quick, then yes, video cam. Otherwise the DSLR is a great video cam.
Because the quality of it is far greater than most dedicated video cameras beyond it's price range. It has a lot of weaknesses but the pros are what most people want.

im sure for the price of all that you could buy a above consumer grade video camera which would focus as good and get the same sort of images better lol
It was never intended to used as dedicated video camera, Canon had no idea that this camera would appeal so strongly to professional filmmakers. You will never get this image quality from a dedicated video camera, with those lens choices and matte box rail mounts, at that price.
The Canon 5D Mark II started life as a cost-cutting measure for Associated Press and Reuters. They asked for a still camera that also shot HD to avoid having to pay both a still photographer and a videographer to cover the same events. They wanted 30p, for web streaming, and full auto mode, so as not to scare still photographers who had never shot moving images before.
To all the retards saying "why dont you just buy a video camera, durrrr." I'll just say theres a reason he's a professional and your an amateur.

Do you recommend the SmallHD Monitor?
MichaelFrymus 1 year ago
The M9 and it lenses itself cost more than 10k+.
The Canon kits and lenses itself must have mount up thousand of quids.
Including the accessories and flashgun not to mention, the bags.
My guess, 20k+

If he has a massive bag full of stuff just for video and a dedicated video set-up, why not carry a video camera?

because the Depth of field when shooting video on an SLR is much Shallower than that on most Consumer Video Cameras and Broadcast Cameras
sokem1 2 years ago
@alman53 Because a video camera is cumbersome in small spaces.

A lot of people are using it for those reasons.

He says its because of the 5D MKII that he shoots video, but he has all that setup, so why not just use a dedicated video cam in the first place?
