I come from a small town and I knew I wasn't going to amount to anything there, but I'm in the military and every new place I visit makes me miss home.
I live in Manitoba, in a small town with no more than 800 people. All my life I have been different than everyone else. I bounced to another town (pop. 700... THRILLS). I've been hating this close minded place, and wanting to leave since 10 years old.
This song makes me cry with the truth in the lyrics. but when I leave, my life will start to shape the the way I've dreamed for 7 long years now.
RIP David. You knew the pain of living amongst what I feel.
In Canada, the metal community has never gotten its' due, and Dave particularly never got his. I'm commenting on this song because having spent my formitive years in a town such as this, I connected to this song deeply. Davids' music had a way of doing that. Peace to you David, and if there is a world beyond this one, may it bless you the way you did us with your music.
@taxi911 Right, you visited the 1 million + square kilometers of the province and drew that conclusion, did you? Not surprised you "Didn't know something so spiritual could come out of Ontario" because you obviously reek of ignorance.
Ontario campbellford, population like 20,.... All old people, burrial ground, but atleast my 20 year old ass is drinking some rum in name of their boring lives.
I heard this band for the first time this week, and now all I can think about is how it possibly took me so long to find them, and that discovering Woods of Ypres right when I'm getting really into ambient metal was a godsend. If any of you guys are at the NY gig, let's party it up!
I've always been Death metal, Black Metal, Thrash Deep satanic shit, but this Showed showed me somethin outside my spectrum thank you for opening my eyes m/
I'm from Alberta, and it's the same story. In my highschool yearbook, 90% of the grads listed "get out of this town" under "What are you going to do after high school". For some, it was all they listed.
I'm still trying to get out, but the natural beauty I grew up with is hard to leave... I love living on the edge of the wilderness. Of course, I go to the local bar, see the *people* and think, "fuck this shit!".
I assure you that it's the same shit here.I live in Italy,I love the landscapes, the hills and the sea,but I truly hate the fuckin people I have to deal with every day.I can relate to this song, and to your feelings completely, even though I'm not a Canadian.
It's not small, but it sure is shitty. If you're not the biggest fish you get lost in the school. Can't wait till I can dig myself out and move somewhere with trees that aren't stunted from exhaust fumes.
love this song! thanks for uploading a not-live version (although they are fuckin wickedly awesome live!!!!) and @stephen1cuomo, fuck yeah, we all can for sure!
I can relate to this song so much. I come from Sunderland, in the North-east of England. It's a frozen shithole, as soon as people are old enough to leave they do...
Perhaps if you had accepted Meech Lake all of your problems would be solved. Leave it to French Seperatists to turn away a Constitutional ammendment promising distinct society, a veto and more provincail control. Good job guys.
maybe because you just can't work with us! We won't stop the fight 'til we are liberated! But for now, Canada just put Quebec in the last priority. We don't hate Canada, we are just too different to work together.
not realy that different, tbh u have quite alot of polital freedom compared to other provinces becuase canada worked with quebec, besides seperating will only creat economic problems becuase all the people employed in quebec though canadian companies will lose there jobs becuase the compainies will yet again leave like they did before durring the riots back in the day
Culturally we are really different. We have different perceptions than you do that's why many wants to seperate. And the reason why we have a political "freedom" (?) is because we fought for it if we wouldn't, we would be less important for the canadian government. Why would canadian conpanies leave and have to build another factory? There is no advantages of doing that! BTW, most of the companies such are american this proves that you don't need to be in the same country to work together,
not the factories the executive offices would leave the high paying jobs.
half my family lives in quebec and was born there and they think its totaly bs.
but by all means leave, quebec cant support it self, canada puts more money in to quebec then it puts out so quebec leavin would actualy incress over all economic situation.
I am an American but I used to live in Montreal surrounded by Francophones and very sympathetic to their plight, but you're really not that different. The Canadian government just doesn't want the Québécois to have their own identity because it interferes with the globalization agenda, and the Québécois want to keep it, that's all.
Voyons donc calisse on va se plier comme des vulgaires chiens soumis! La hache de guerre n'est pas enterré. Le mouvement souverainiste est encore fort crois-moi. NOUS VAINCRONS
Right, Last place, by the way how's that hydro plant working for you? Still giving millions in profit? Enough to try and screw over a second Hydro Dam further down the river profiting the province it's actually IN? But then Again, I'd imagine that every bill you try to pass is just trying to ammend Caps and red tape that's unfairly binding your profits to the government, Oh wait, They're not. You're not in last priority, That's probably Nunavut, followed by the Atlantic provinces.
I didn't care for them, they played this twice when I saw them too... the second time for the encore, he was complaining about the lights a lot lol. He's got talent, I'll give him that.
This whole album is a fucking masterpiece. 'Nuff said.
