@123tgw The film is called A Taste of Honey (whose writer, Shelagh Delaney died in November) and the actress who plays the soon to be pregnant schoolgirl, Jo is Rita Tushingham.

Georgie pulls out a killer version of Billy Stewarts classic. As a soul and reggae man I rate this up with the Slim Smith, Bobby Thurston, GQ, Brenton Woods, Cassandra and all the rest. One for the UK! Big up Georgie!!

We have a tiny radio station here in southwestern N.M. that has a DJ who either isn't afraid to spin anything or has access to literally THOUSANDS of classic tunes like this and he plays this one often.
Check out 95.1 next time you're on the I-10 and you're near Lordsburg and Deming.
This is just so erotic. Cha Cha while holding your mates hand and feeling his other hand in the small of your back as you turn. Or doing a slow whine while gazing in your mates eyes. So erotic...
Helps me recall those halcyon days from the mid 60's when I was "Sitting In the Park" for one Pauline Robinson in the public park in Alton, Hants, she never turned up! if you are still around I still go to the park when I visit my home town, maybe see you some time, classic record this from those glorious days, such soul expressed by Georgie.

I dont know what everybody is on about I just know that i was growing up in the 60s in Glasgow and still at school and this was one of the records i loved. Also The Small Faces...The Who...Etc
The actress was Rita Tushingham. She was about 19 and playing the part of a 17-year old girl who got pregnant by a black sailor. It was one of several movies that raised the mixed race issue (see Sidney Poitier). According to Wikipedia, it was her screen debut but the movie I liked was the Trap with Oliver Reed about five years later. She was very well-known in the UK in the 1960s.
I did a search on Amazon.com under "Movies and TV". It shows some DVDs and VHS Tapes for Region 2 (mainly Europe) which may not suit you. But there is one listing that does not say it's an overseas format at $11.15 for new price. Sorry but I don't know much about regional formats except USA is Region 1.
@patrickcorliss I was wanting the movie on DVD but as of yet it is only in British format. I will have to resort to buying the movie on VHS I guess. I really want the movie!
There's a bit on YouTube about Rita Tushingham under "A Taste of Honey". But the entire movie "The Trap" is there starting at watch?v=-n7WAmpx7oU. The movie is in 11 parts altogether. Good luck !!
@patrickcorliss I checked out The Trap with Oliver Reed and Rita Tusinham. It didn't quite grab me like A Taste Of Honey did. I am more interested in movies like To Sir With Love, Terms Of Trial, The Chalk board Jungle-stories along that nature. Georgie Girl was good too. If you can think of any more British movies along the lines of A Taste of Honey I would be most appreciative and open for suggestions. Thank you
That was Blackboard Jungle (1955) and Georgy Girl (1966). Of course there were several comedies such as the St. Trinian's movies between about 1954 and 1966 as well as a film called Bottoms Up (1960) about a boys school with Jimmy Edwards.
Apart from that all I know are two well-known movies called The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie and Goodbye, Mr. Chips (both in 1969). There was also a German movie called The School Girls in 1970 which I know nothing about.
@patrickcorliss Yes, I do have Georgy Girl on DVD. I was thinking of pulling it out and watching it the other day. But instead I watched Calender Girls with Helen Merrin. Oh yes I loved The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie!!! That will be another movie I add to my list to buy. I vaguely remember the move Goodbye Mr. Chips. Who was the male star in that movie?
The movie starred two of the greatest actors in British cinema, Peter O'Toole and Michael Redgrave. The screenplay was written by the incomparable Terence Rattigan. Check out his mini-biography on IMDb, the movie database.
@patrickcorliss Oh Peter O'Toole. yes I know of him. He was in El Cid and Man of La Mancha. Michael Redgrave I have not heard of. Unless he is related to Vanessa and Lynn Redgrave.
I will check Terence Rattigan's bio on IMDb thank you for that bit of information.
If you have a PC that was made in the last several years and plays/records DVDs then simply order the PAL (NON USA format) DVD via Ebay, then play it on your computer and save it. From there you should be able to burn it to disc for play via USA format. Most computers can play DVDs that are non USA format.
A Taste Of Honey is a VERY sad film, I was only able to watch it one time and I'm a huge fan of Rita.
@Babyhowdy233 thank you I will tell my hubby what you suggested. I normally let him handle all that online buying stuff :)

@terr0rkitten. Its written in the Somerset dialect .That is Somerset ,west country, England.Back in the 60's when Geogie Fame released this version, I was working at the cider factory near Taunton instead of flying phantoms for the RAF across the Atlantic to.............Ahhhh never mind...
Maybe its not word perfect and I'm sorry about that but I was born in Wellington in the early 50s near Taunton and lived in Bishops Lydeard and Norton Fitzwarren where I worked at the cider factory and thats how we talked. Now I dont know what part of somerset you are from, maybe you was from a posh family?
While riding me bike to work in the rain in those lonely zomerzet country lanes,oi just kept playing this in me ead, thinking, oi should've joined the RAF instead of the zider factory! My God if only oi could remember those days!!!!!!!!!
While flying my F-4 Phantom jet for the RAF across the pond to Nellis AFB ,Nevada,I just kept playing this in my head phones. My god this brings back memory's.
OH MY GAWDD!! I found this song amongst my moms records when I was about 11yrs old..it was on 7 inch, and I absolutely loved this song lol damn! id play it on saturdays on our old record player whilst doing my housework....Almost sang it for a talent show at my school but ended singin Groovin..good ole memories..one of the many records I regret not bringing to the UK with me...glad I stumbled on it finally!..wow lol feels like my childhoods come back to tap me on the shoulder this evenin hehe
I'm only 34 but this is sublime visually and musically. As a Londoner who wasn't born until 1974 I feel all nostalgic for a time before I even existed. Good work Mr Fame and terr0rkitten of course.
Like ziggyzugg I also felt very nostalgic hearing this song, even tho I only found it after hearing for the first time on radio 4 when liza tarbuck chose it as her all time favourite

Out of the blue this song came into my head yesterday. What a great song and way before its time. I haven't heard it for years. It got to no.12 at the "turn of the year" 1966/67.

LOL. Michael Redgrave married an actress and had three children, Vanessa, Corin and Lynn. All three became well-known actors.
He started his career as a Shakespearean actor and in 1963 played Claudius opposite Peter O'Toole who was playing Hamlet (See Wikipedia).
Michael Redgrave was in very many British films during and after the war and right up until his final work in 1975. He was knighted for his services.
