I dug her "In My Own Time" out of the $1.00 discard bin at Woolco about 40 years ago - bought it on the strength of the backup musicians - and it has been with me all these years. Wore that LP out playing it, got another after a long, long search - now have it burned off to CD. Even after all these years, her voice can still give me the big ache, bring me to tears, and then that feeling of joy...never been anyone like her, never will be...
I saw Karen with Monte Dunn on guitar and that sounds like who's playing here opening for Fred Neil, and I think Fred is on this cut as well...Monte Dunn played guitar for Fred Neil as well...it was the night Fred's Live side of his Dolphins album was recorded in Woodstock NY at the Elephant...
She was Bob Dylans favourite singer in NewYork when he was a folkclub singer
trying to make a name for himself. She never made it as Dylan did - and she went on to become a drug addict and lived on the streets of NY city before dying of ill health. Many people are rediscovering her music today - and she is often name dropped by famous artists. Bob Dylans mentioning of her name in his Autobiography - 'Chronicals 1' has helped to bring a new generation of fans to her much missed music.
Her voice is something like.... a lover woman waiting for happyness....that kind of happyness that makes presence just breathing her own lover voice !!!! WOW KAREN... WOW KAREN... WOW KAREN, you were at the stars when " I saw you standing there" at first time... She lives where the blues is !!!!

@TJTele He is obviously a pretty fair picker..But I think it's a mistake for him to play on top
of her vocal so much... it 's a bit distracting. To me a good accompanist stays out of the
singer's way.. he seems a little bit IN the way here... just my opinion.... but Hey !!! NICE tune...
well sung.. good bass playing.
