  • @mfperna it not a sarcastic view at all it a song about a guy who grew up in a broader town and look across the river to see America in all it amazing glory good and bad big and rich ,,, America has it all ,,, my brother wrote this he lives in sarnia ontario ,,, we both love and hate America like most American do ,,it actually about a boy looking at America

  • someone post the lyrics please!

  • I remember when it came out in 1992, it was clear at the time that Mitchell was one of those who used his work to take a slap at the US for their foreign policies ( bombing Baghdad just a year or two before ).

I disagreed with his limp-wristed approach but loved the song.

It was just a Canadian hippee taking a shot at the US right wing, whoopee.

  • Somebody has to keep you guys in line. Please don't say those things about Kim Mitchell.

  • @lesterclaypool1

I never thought Mitchell wrote the song. But he was happy to perform it, as his views were the same.

  • @nineinchallan noooo he was a guitar player who grew up in a boarder town ,,, where do you think his dreams where ? americas got it all good bad and indifferent and this song has nothing to do with bag dad and i know this for a fact ! this song was written by jim chevalier and has nothing at all todo with what your saying ,,,,

  • Always nice to have Canadian talent appreciated by our American cousins! But Kim's music has a lot of elements that aren't typically Canadian-- or typically anything for that matter! Very unique artist (thanks for posting this classic)

  • Agreed.

  • Great bands come out of Canada, Honeymoon Suite, Guess Who, Payolas , BTO. Must have something to do with the weather LOL

  • weather is beautiful here =)

  • Great tune! Kim mitchell is the Man!

  • I get that this song is supposed to be sarcastic to say the least. But what exactly is it trying to say?

  • just sounds pro-Canada to me like... visit America, but don't move their looking for this and that when you've got everything in Canada... at least that's what i think

  • Song was popular in summer 1992 visited Alaska, Yukon and NWT. Really wanted to see the sun at night

  • Think I will look for my Universal Juveniles. In the mood for some In The World Of Giants.

  • If I may say so, everything Kim and the Guys do should be on the radio more. That's coming from a Texan that has been listening to the most underated man of all time. Don't know if I were supposed to, but I voted for Kim to have his own star up there. Just a man that appreciates a great guitar player and vocalist.

  • man thats said alot

most americans wont dare listen to a canadian

    thanks man

  • appreciate that Mr. C . Didn't say near as much that I should. Didn't say anything about my other 25 favorite bands, most of which, are Canadian. like beavis and butthead said once, "some people are dumb." lol thanks for the invite and talk to ya soon

    C

  • Northern NY loves Kim. 103.7 the river exposed anyone within an hour of the border to some of the best music we've ever heard.

  • i didnt no that im glad your likeing it

tell you the truth thats the way it sould be

us listening to your music as we do and love it

but i really wish more americans listened to our music they dont no what there missing

  • No doubt. I ask my students to write about Canadian music for extra credit. Hoefully it'll help spawn a new generation of Americans who appreciate Canadian music.

  • well i respect you greatly for that

  • That sounds great. We are making fantastic music up here in Canada and would like to share it with the rest of the world.

  • Thank you so much for this. My husband's father is in it dressed as the minister. He's 84 now & not doing this stuff anymore.

  • This is the one and only Kim Mithcell song that is rarely played on the radio. It's so underated that I could not find the lyrics for this song on any of those websites. Don't believe me? Find out for yourself. Heck, it's my mom's favourite song. Never hear it though. I had to come to youtube to hear it.

  • this vid deserves more views

  • Yeah, I'm kinda dissapointed myself. It should be up there with Patio Lanterns for sure.

  • good song -----havn't heard it in years

  • saw him at artpark in niagara falls it was sick

  • O YA that was cool i was there too im going there this year i cant wait!!!!

  • Can someone tell me when Kim got his haircut?

  • back yard fire i think jk

  • jim chevalier!

  • my brother wrote this song no jokes

  • Great song and band! Saw Kim in BC last year and he said "it's nice to be away from the province the devil built, Ontario." Don't know why he said it, but people cheered.

  • Good stuff thanks for this lauranbri!

  • Thanks for postin this. What a great video

  • im in BC and Kim absotutlee kiks major rock n roll ass..Bin a fan since I was a little jedi...

  • I thought it was pro manitoba

  • Oh yeah, it is definitely pro-Manitoba; that kind-of goes without saying (the clothes-lines in the video just shout it :-).

  • your totally wrong !

  • To rtosman..spot on! Great response ...excellent! These days any observation of The States is being seen as anti-american ..sadly. Way too much air time being used up on hating on dumbass issues when it could be used to expose all the corporate and government lies ( used by both to line thier own pockets on us! )so we can all begin to share the pot more equally and buy more stuff!! Anyway...I dig this video, it's done very well.

  • It surprising how much people don't know Kim Mitchell in Vancouver. It's really pfehetic.

  • All about growing up in Sarnia. Actually where my family inherited from.

  • Its got nothing to do with growing up in Sarnia...ask Kim and he'd tell ya

  • I know. Just has a nice ontario touch about this song.

  • Kim did nt even write it my brother did Jim Chevalier .

  • My brother wrote this song

  • This song rules. Nothing like a little Kim Mitchell to start your day.

  • Is this Anti-American???

  • Nope - not unless you consider anti-materialism and anti-corruption to be anti-American.

  • Well, that goes on in a lot of places.

  • I see what it means now.
