  • Marcelo is a beast Roger is a demon. Im a big Marcelo fan and he did amazingly against Roger his size against a giant with great juijitsu he's only 5'7 and he slayes giants on a regular only Roger is not your normal giant. Im happy to watch two greats throe down good job fellas

  • This was a motivating video where the little guy does exceptionally well versus the giant named Roger Gracie.

  • 7:52 why does this guy keep moving his gi around

  • @TEHWEEZY In more advanced game, the gi itself can be used for advanced chokes and also disabling an arm while in transition.

  • @metalbullitt i know that but you're supposed to do that. the referee appears to be move the gi away from his hands.

  • @TEHWEEZY Maybe they're not allowed to do that type of manipulation? just how wrist locks can't be applied during competition? I do JJJ so when we roll for fun we apply BJJ rules but allow gi chokes so we can keep our street defense training present.

  • @metalbullitt oh, yeah. thanks

  • HOOOLY SHIIIT!!! Look at how big roger is lol!!! good job marcelo

  • @theflyingpharaohmido really? I cannot disagree more. Check how many times Braulio lost to Roger already. Galvao? He hasn't been relevant in Grappling in years. And Rodolfo is not worth mentioning either.

  • 2:50 the ref should tie knots in marcelos belt ;)

  • There is no way to tell how exactly MG vs RG would go if they were the same size. As it is, Roger wins on points. Perhaps if they were the same size it would be more even, but we just don't know for sure because it will never happen.

  • I am sorry guys but braulio would beat roger rodolfo would beat roger galvao would beat roger

roger isnt nearly as technical as marcelo is there is no comparison really marcelo is a genius SIZE DOES MATTER roger is huge

  • @theflyingpharaohmido yeah atleast this puts that "size/str means nothing in jiu jitsu" argument to rest

  • I know Roger is the best of the best, but Marcelo... it seems like he knows every escape, like there is no way to submit him. Simply amazing. I can only dream of being as good as them.

  • when did this match take place

  • two legends doin their thing, pure art, just watch and admire.

  • is not a problem of bigger or smaller.the same grapplers with no gi marcelo wins every match.

  • I would have liked to see them go at it in a no gi match. I would favor Garcia in that match!

  • If Roger was smaller, Marcelo would defeat him, without a doubt. Marcelo is way more technical.

  • It's like watching two unicorns drinking at a quiet stream. You better take pictures, you may not see that shit again.

  • LMAO they go straight for the clothes. Real honorable guys.

  • When will people learn... Size absolutely matters. Though it is one of many factors to consider.

  • Size only matters when there is equal technique. Two amazing JJ guys, size came in to play.

  • damn...!!!That was a hell of a match.Cant expect less from 2 Legends!!!!!!

  • @killerkicks88 can't use excusses like that, the smaller man has speed and is able to fill the spaces easier. Each person uses what tools they have.

  • There is a reason for weight classes. It's clear for anyone who's done Jiu-Jitsu for a matter of years to see that Roger's size helped him here.

  • haha rodgers leg is the lenght of marcelos body

  • i am huge fan of these two

  • Comment removed

  • 2 of the greatest to ever do it. i think roger gracie is the most decorated in the ju jitsu circuit of all time. but i think mercelo gracie is the best in the world today and i think he's pushed the envelope to the next level.

  • @DroppinKnowledge69 *García

  • @nahuelfantino word. typo.

  • Beautiful match! Two of my favorites!

  • That was insane!

  • Fantastic fight!!

  • im my book marcelo is a monster

  • Size and muscle helps a lot guys. I am 218 @6ft and I sometimes have issues with guys 260 and taller then me same level.

  • greatness vs greatness.

  • Don't mistake size for advantage. Whenever a bigger person beats a smaller person, everyone always credits it to the size of the opponent. Alexandre Ribeiro and Roger Gracie are in the same weight class, and Alexandre has beaten Roger on more than one occassion. Marcelo Garcia has beaten Alexandre when they competed. Thus even if Marcelo may have lost to Roger it's not because of his weight. Simply because Roger's skills are better.

  • @G102Y5568 if marcelo can beat alexandre and his smaller than him, and alexandre can beat roger and there the same size then if marcelo and roger were the same size marcelo would win. thts what u basically said then fucked up ur ending. lool and u used "thus"

  • @ChrisAtWar93 You, sir, are a troll.

  • @G102Y5568 lol, no ur just wrong

  • @ChrisAtWar93 u mad?

  • @G102Y5568 nope, just correct

  • Just looked up Roger on Wikipedia. Wow! It looks like he's never been submitted in competition. His only losses are on points. That's pretty amazing. I still believe Marcelo is the better grappler. He developed the X-Guard, a whole new aspect of BJJ. He didn't get to use much of it on Roger in this match. I hope they fight again soon. Marcelo just won the Mundials without a point being scored on him. I can't wait for ADCC!

  • @SeanX1981 Roger Gracie is the greatest grappler to ever live. His credentials speak for themselves. That being said, I think Marcelo Garcia is the best P4P grappler. Roger Gracie is a monster, he's huge. What is he like, 6'4 220? Marcelo is like 5'7 160? The fact that Marcelo Garcia can even compete with Roger speaks leaps and bounds about him.

  • Marcelo is so small. At certain points (6:10) you couldn't even see him under big old Roger.

  • Comment removed

  • roger ,gave a class, how to defended x sweep.

  • There are a couple points where Garcia could have swept him, but failed because Roger is simply bigger, but I think Roger still wins if they're the same size. Man is phenomenal.

  • just happy i don't have to hear that fuckn Dmx song!

  • Just imagine a bigger marcelinho ... heh

If only he used a mix of deca-durabolin (joints) + trenbolone (force) + 3IU somatropine : thats the mad marcelinho !!

moreover if you look at roger, his hands and feet and jaw looks under the effect of HGH !!

  • Awesome. Great roll and amazing to see the size difference between them MG performed exceptionally against a larger and heavier RG. Does that mean MG is better skilled? Would MG beat RG if they were the same weight?

  • roger tha beast! but seriously marcelo is the shit. why are their last names capitalized??

  • @paultwisterchaney

I'm going to take a wild guess that the poster was annoyed people thought both were gracies because they can't read

  • Marcelo is a beast!!

  • 4:22 is amazing. For Marcelo to pull that off on a larger expert grappler like Gracie is just crazy.

  • @LittleDragon67 GSP doesn't really destroy nore finishes anybody.. he just wins

  • How did people on here end up arguing about this video? Just shut up and enjoy it ya bastards!

  • @OctagonBiTcH they'll always argue they have nothing better to do....their mouthjitsu is better than their jujitsu man lol

  • osom fight

  • how tall is garcia

  • listen dummy i dont do all these internet tough guy nonsense that your doing i only use my skills on the streets in self defense mode only, truly speakin if we get at it i will strangle you immediately with ease, xande beat garcia aswell u kno but the fact that garcia beat xande means size doesnt matter foool

  • @poganla123

You sound retarded , learn to use some punctuation and stop rambling.

  • @BIGthingsSON goofy fuck

  • guys lets not forget that rogers weight is like the double of garcia. that is a llot, and that takes on his legs when he's playing the game from the bottom, always.. so it's not fair anyway in my opinion

  • Wow, Garcia is amazing..giving up so much size and hanging in every step of the way with Roger. Truly inspiring.

  • Comment removed

  • @poganla123 Please! How can you say that Garcia is not on Roger's level? That's an absurd comment, one which Roger himself would disagree with. They're both world champions. They're both the best in their weight classes. What more do you want?

These are two equally matched men with one being significantly larger than the other. It should show you something that Roger, a man known for his finishes, could not finish Garcia, a man much smaller than him.

  • @del1000005 i agree that garcia is a grappling legend and phenomenal, garcia has beating guys much bigger than him and won in the absolute divison lots of times but not just against roger cause roger is better its easy as that the fact that roger couldnt tap him doesnt mean they are equally skilled that just means garcia is too good to get taped by the best of the best himself

  • @poganla123 because roger is double his size and as skillfull. making garcia the best.

  • @DBKK huh? how does roger completing controlling garcia makes him the best. xande is roger size and almost just as good and garcia strangled him but couldnt do it to roger.

  • @poganla123 dude roger is 6'4 and marcelo 5'6 or 5'7 and is hanging with roger and he is like double his size. what the hells so hard to understand? marcelo is the best

  • @DBKK what is so hard to understand is the fact that you keep saying marcelo is better than roger. i understand the fact that garcia is way smaller than roger he is also way smaller than xande but garcia still defeated xande. if garcia could submit xande he should have no problems submitting roger as well. roger is better than garcia end of.

  • @poganla123 what you dont understand is how retarded logic is that because marcelo beat some up other irrelevant guy who is bigger than him and is not even close to as good do as roger. Your suggesting that marcelo should be beating up roger just because he beat some other guy who is bigger than him. Should nate diaz be able to beat up GSP because hes beating guys at WW even though he fights at LW? no. your argument is retarded. marcelo is fukin 5'5 and roger is 6'4 get that through your head.

  • @DBKK you are obviously retarded. how dare you call alexandre ribero irrelevant, xande is top 5 pound for pound best bjj fighters ever infact he has beaten roger on 3 seperate occasions you fuck, however roger did beat him more times. xande is defintately one of the best.

  • @DBKK nate diaz would DOMINATE gsp

  • @sleepyasfuck nate diaz is a lightweight dude

  • @sleepyasfuck Nate?

  • @poganla123 I personally think Garcia is more technically proficient, but I also think they are both at such a high level, that the difference in weight is just too big, no mather how much of a legend or phenom garcia is.

  • @poganla123 i think garcia is the technically superior grappler

  • @prebirth91 your entitled to your own opinion ma dude and i do believe garcia would definately be a handful for roger no-gi.

  • @poganla123 False size matters greatly. Even just 10 lbs can make a big difference. Just becuz u can tap out guys bigger than you that are less skilled doesnt mean that size doesnt matter

  • Comment removed

  • @poganla123

You can't compare yourself ,some blue belt, to one of the best practitioners to date. These two are at the same level, Roger just has a very large size advantage. Marcelo's weight class is also one of the most stacked so his dominance over it is amazing.

  • @BIGthingsSON listen son do you know what it takes to get a blue belt in 6 months a the age of 18 so unless u grapple n know how jiu jitsu works dont run your mouth n listen xande ribero beat roger 2 or 3 times while roger beat him 5 times now xande is one of the best grapplers ever and the same size as roger but garcia defeated him i would like to see marcelo vs roger in no-gi then we'll kno if there n the same level robert drysdale choke garcia out no-gi while roger tooled drysdale twice

  • @poganla123

A blue belt in 6 months. WHO GIVES A FLYING FUCK, what does that have to do with anything? If you're in Florida look me up and we'll go at it, or if you participate in any IBJJF tourny. On to the point though. Xanda has beaten Roger on points a few times while Garcia subbed em in the first 5min. So that point is just mute. No matter what kinda comp we put these guys in it will never be fair due to the weight difference, get that through your thick skull ...idiot..

  • i think it's testament to Marcelo that Roger couldn't finish him..Roger is known for finishing everyone he faces..this is first fight i've seen of his where he doesn't finish his opp.

  • Two experts - one a lot bigger than the other - put your money on the big guy.

  • If Marcello was the size of Roger he would have whoop that ass.

  • @baelthedemon if marcelo was the size of roger he wouldnt have the same style he's got so your comment is silly.

  • @Passenger87 but doesn't weight have a big say..in terms of leverage etc..also wouldnt roger be the stronger man too..doesn't strength have a play in bjj? that's a genuine question i'd like to know answer to

  • How tall is Roger Gracie? he looks like a 7 footer. I gotta think that great hight and long limbs in BJJ has to be an advantage for someone if they know how to use it, no?

  • @kanguesso 6'4"

  • @bench175 Thanks dude. Is that an advantage in BJJ to be so tall?

  • @kanguesso Yeah, it can be more of an advantage if you know how to use it. It can also be a disadvantage if you don't learn do defend well because long limbs are easier to grab.

  • @bench175 Thanks once again for your input.

  • Roger Gracie is beast, kudos to Marcelo for being smaller but still a tough SOB. Viva Gracie Barra!

  • These guys' technique is insane, all the transitions, attacks and defenses. BJJ at his finest.

  • that was an awesome match

  • both of them were good, but roger really had the size advantage.

  • Donde fue ese campeonato... en brasil ???

  • Roger's escapes are phenomenal

  • Comment removed

  • Esse marcelo Garcia é do Caralho msmo....

  • BJ would definitely lose a BJJ match against Marcelo..but MMA, it'd be easy for BJ

  • i wanna see bj penn against Marcelo!!! would be a hard one for bj but a nice match

  • Roger = almost unsubmittable.....the next Rickson Gracie

  • @MrCreepy92 ahhh, thank you Mr. Creepy but I'm looking for the ADCC 2009 no-gi match up.....Any luck finding that video?? Let me know. (You'd think that it would be widely available.....

  • Comment removed

  • Rogers base is absolutly amazing

  • That was a great match

  • The only video I've seen where Marcelo gets tapped out is his match with Jacare (via Kimura). Does anyone know of other videos where he gets tapped?? I love the match where Marcelo chokes out Jake Shields.....

  • @bourquechris then you have not seen him get his ass taped by Tererê. the vid is out there

  • @ms1454 Yes, I see that looking at Garcia's record. Way back in 2003. I guess Terere is having some problems with drug addiction these days (not to detract from his amazing skills).

  • lol...gringo fala mt besteira!

  • Jiu-Jitsu is GREAT for Same Sized Opponents, but when Going against a LARGER, HIGHLY SKILLED JJ Player, u need something a LIL Extra, otherwise, your SKILLS wiLL Get SQUASH'd by the SIZE & Weight DifferentiaL, which is HUGH, because Jiu-Jitsu is aLL about Weight Distribution and Balancing & Un-Balancing the Opponent, naturaLLY, hehS........................

Good Match, no CLEAR Cut "win" hehS.................

Marcello, he's a FIGHTER, hehS, Roger was like, Dammit, YOU MIDGET

    hehS..............

  • @SaffuriousOne one advantadge smaller bjj guys have is speed and endurance. that's why marcelo's so damn good cuz he's good with his transitions, hardly stalls and is always several moves ahead.

  • @SaffuriousOne

Roger weighs in at about 95-97kgs and stills make light work of the over 97kg guys, similar to Romulo. His game is awesome. Technique with Pressure vs Speed. My brother trained with GB before the last 2 worlds and rolled with Roger. He reckons he's like a truck that drives into and over you and then parks on top and applies the hand break. My brother is a 110kg monster brown belt. Roger is the best.

  • @bjjpath My brother's bigger.

  • @bjjpath And better.

  • @christlicker We should race them??

  • Can your brother do a heel flick to tail slide to axle grind, fakey??

  • @bjjpath without shoes

  • 7:43 top left corner, wicked throw.

  • @everydaywarriors yea that was super slick :P

  • damn. roger is the master of escapes

  • im just getting more into bjj. i only really know the more high profile people like garcia and the gracies and aoki cuz of mma. can any experts out there reccomend some other great grapplers to watch????????????

  • @breakneck777 Depends on what you're looking for.

Watch Jacare... Robert Drysdale and Xande Ribeiro always have some decent stuff.

Ryan Hall isn't nearly on the level as the rest, but he's fun to watch and has a very different style... and of course, you can check out Demian Maia's old stuff. Then there's always Saulo Ribeiro.

  • @unliketherest1991 nice, thanks dude, ill check those guys out!

  • @breakneck777 Eddie Bravo. hands down my favorite Jiujitsu practitioner.

  • man bjj outfits looks so gay its like nascar with m & ms patches

  • @jf1gd2

    it's called a GI.

idk where you come from but it's man enough for me.

and btw those patches are either sponsors or the teams which they represent.

which means they get paid for that.

  • @Donpaeng no fuckin shit...and nascar drivers get paid more for wearing theirs only the bjj guys look just as stupid for far less money

  • @jf1gd2

than wtf are you complaining about, you're not the one wearing them.

nor the one getting paid either.

  • @Donpaeng about how gay the uniforms and sport look. fuck was it that hard to understand?

  • @jf1gd2

like i said you're not the one wearing them ergo stop acting like a bitch.

  • @Donpaeng then stop being a fag and wearing your gracie patch on your ass

  • @jf1gd2

    you must have homosexual tendencies.

only a person insecure with their manhood would notice the patch on their ass and think it was gay.

  • @Donpaeng well sir, i respectfully disagree.... i believe that in order to train bjj in thye first place, you have to be fairly comfortable with your sexuality. I am not a homophobe in any sense of the word, but i still am not comfortable with everyone's eyes being on my ass. particularly when 90% of those eyes are male....

  • @pptine

i'm in the premise that you have not read our comment thread or you are just as ignorant as the person i was rebutting with.

seriously, why would you think that everyone's eyes would be on your ass??

it isn't only a patch, there are multiple patches on the GI. anybody who be thinking that is absurd, ridiculous and has homosexual tendencies.

i mean if you're watching this video and all you can do is look at the patches at their asses than YOU are the problem not the patches.

  • @Donpaeng i didn't even notice the patch till reading the posts here. i guess he was checking out marcelo's ass. fucking fag. when i roll or watch a match i never think about anything else except bjj. those who's minds wander off need to check themself.

  • @ACIDOCEAN1

    thank you very much.

  • Roger is always so impressive with a Gi. Marcelo with Nogi.

  • damn what's the weight difference between these two?! roger looks massive compared to marcelo

  • uma das melhores Lutas q ja vi no Jiu!!!!!!!!!!! os 2 atacando Fodastiko

    2.00m contra 1.70m kkkkkkkkkkkkkkk

  • respect to marcelo for not just hangin out with roger but actually threatening. did these two ever fight nogi?

  • This is a crappy ref. He shouldn't be moving their gis so much.

  • Roger passou o Carro ...kkk

  • roger is the master of escapes at 9:20

  • @giovaniabomai That was Marcelo doing the sweeping.

  • @open3rdeye

man i mean roger is the master of escapes because marcelo got the sweep and take the back then roger escape the back control of one of the best at it.

  • just wondering why the ref removed his belt?

    cheers

  • @lorenrb It came undone part way through the match, and is a hazard to small joints as well as a hindrance to the flow of both fighters. the ref is removing it from the engagement to allow the fighters to flow better. its for convenience and safety. Though i dun remember it being an actual rule.

  • how do you win in these matches bye submission?

  • @killer420ization how do you think

  • @pressupfallah if i knew why would i be asking, dumbass

  • @killer420ization the matches are timed. every move/position is worth a certain amount of points and the ref signals a scorekeeper when points are earned. for example a take down is worth 4 points, full mount 4 points, etc. at the end of the match (if it goes the full length of time), they base the winner off of the points earned (scorecard). of course if an opponent "taps out" (quits) before time is up...the points / score cards don't matter. this particular match went the distance.

  • awsome match

  • damn that marcelo has some balls, if you arent scared of roger you aint scared of anybody, you youtube experts go ahead and correct me but what is he about 5'4 135 ish? and is that really a win for roger when hes a foot taller and prolly 80 pounds heavier and it was still a super tough match, and roger is my fav all time behind rickson, looks like marecelo just took 3rd... bad dude

  • @JMoore4291 He is much bigger than 135. He is around 165ish.

  • One of the best matches I've seen. Roger is a beast.

  • @bape14 I never said anything about Jiu Jitsu in any of my comments. You can't read.

  • ROFL i love how the reff scolded the crowd!!

  • @ph33ric yeah! and the ref is alvaro bobadilla, great teacher and bjj competitor

  • Great fight, lots of simple techniques that work against the best black belt in the world. Marcelo is PHYSICALLY outmatched not to take away from Roger. Marcelo took his back and almost got a choke. "If you do not lose (read tap) you will eventually win" Helio Gracie

  • man their both great jiu jitsu fighters..roger gracie in the gracie family as in THE gracie family?

  • Comment removed

  • @XxLauraxxRadkexX

Yes. His father is actually Mauricio Gomes, a very very famous bjj practitioner, and his mother is a gracie. He only took on the gracie name, to bring "honor" to the name.
