  • You got my vote Meghan!!! What sealed it for me was when you said that big oil companies would not have to comply with California's strict clean air laws. When I was a kid, the whole L.A. Area was nothing but a smog capital. Trucks and cars just blew black smoke out of there tail pipe nonstop. Now it is a lot cleaner, and you do not have to smell someone else's car while you are driving or stuck in traffic. I also use an inhaler!!!

  • I didn't need Meghan to expose the hypocrisy of giant oil fully engrossed in promoting only economic self interest at the expense of the people of the state of California. I decided to oppose Proposition 23 long before I saw Meghan on Youtube. This morning, Tuesday November 2, at approximately 7:08 AM, I voted no on Proposition 23. Note the past tense in the last sentence.

However, congratulations on a job well done Meghan; your work is both commendable and vital. You are the future Meghan.

  • can't you be a green energy superstar and have asthma?

  • Comment removed

  • she's totally reading this crap, she has no idea how this might effect the economy, or her future health/wellbeing. this is the reason why she cant vote. children cant fully comprehend the potential harmful affects of this prop. her opinion is irrelevant.

  • And bright or not, I do NOT believe she understands the entirety of what she is talking about--most adults do not seem to; she gets some basics about clean air and a new world and progress an making things better---but not how much it would cost, what it would do to business, the economy, individual jobs. . . .

Sure, it's a grand idea---let's work on it and wait until the whole state isn't sinking before forcing it on businesses causing more of them to leave the sate.

  • It would be interesting to hear this obviously intelligent girl DISCUSS the pros and cons of prop 23--and just why ISN'T is about jobs; where are the clean jobs coming from? how will the energize our economy NOW?

Put simply: If mom and dad both worked to pay the bills, but mom lost her job - would it to be smart to spend 30-40K to renovate the house to make it more energy efficient, or let it be for a bit, tighten the belt and wait until things got better? Pretty basic economics.

  • Poor kids are completely brainwashed. We're voting yes on another stupid proposition wasting money on another useless beaurocracy.

  • They may be brainwashed, but at least they can spell "Bureaucracy"......

  • @dogeymon83 They may be brainwashed, but at least they can spell "Bureaucracy"......

  • @MrZeroOC - Hahaha, are you sure? Do you know her? These kids don't even know the definition of Bureaucracy.

  • What propaganda. ...look who is drinking the kool Aid now, they have 6th graders on the stuff. There are soooooooo many polution laws on the books now, wake up folks. Out of state Billionaires? So Bill Gates is not an out of state billionaire who wrote a check for over $700,000??

  • I would rather Iran nuke us than die slowly at the hands of eco-terrorists and their propaganda. There will be ways to control these heavy polluters without funneling money through Sacramento for worthless commissions with high salaries and pensions. This money will come from higher costs for ALL our energy needs. They say 'green' jobs are growing at a faster rate than other industries in Ca. Look at the economy. Makes it convincing, and it is statistically wrong. She can teach me how to bake.

  • When I moved to Venice Beach from Seattle in 1967, I couldn't drive to downtown L.A. without choking on the smog. On bad days the air was so dirty we couldn't even see the mountains. Look around the world at cities where there are no controls on pollution. Californians decided that our love for our state, our beaches, mountains, deserts, trees, wildlife, and fresh air were worth protecting from ignorance, indifference, human abuse, and corporate greed. This 6th grader gets it. On Prop 23 VOTE NO

  • Good job! What poise for a young woman your age. You are headed for big things in this lifetime!

  • I have worked for an Oil Company it is not that hard to produce or refine OIl emissions free if you just keep it in the pipes . It takes innovation and the right equipment.

  • The San Diego CEOs group against prop 23 we're really touched by your video and used it in our campaign to help.. Google "Green Jobs or Asthma? San Diego CEOs Organize to Defeat Prop 23"

  • 5 people don't like to live.

  • Love.

  • Hey, if it puts people to work, i say vote yes on 23! We're all gonna get somethin and fuckin die anywys, why not leave our kids with a strong economy? Plus there is no science to back up the thoery that health problems are caused by greenhouse gases. This is actually perfectly necessary for life to even exist on the damned planet!!! Vote yes for a greener earth! Vote yes on Prop 23!

  • @botanist4B - what qualifies you to say the science is bad?

  • @botanist4B I suppose if you don't mind seeing your children develop asthma or chronic bronchitis or worse, then you would certainly be for Prop. 23. As a doc, I know what it's like for people with these diseases. It's not just a matter of dying, it's a matter of LIVING with a horrid, chronic disease for a lifetime!

  • I’m sorry to hear that Meghan’s Mom let her be a pawn in this hypocrisy, nothing says more about indoctrination than Los Angeles’s teacher Ron Gochez and his advocacy to overthrow the evil capitalists. You are already on youtube, type in Ron Gochez and click on the picture that shows what looks like a protest.

  • this is just more brainwashing of ignorant people. The clean air act passed in 2006.

All Prop23 does is stop it from going into effect till the California un-employment rate goes way lower than it is right now. This is just more taxing to get money to start more "green" industries at our expense. You know I'm all for green industries, but not when I have to pay like $9 a gallon for gas. Wait...you'll see.

  • i have never seen more left wing propaganda in my life. i hope megan has a good time trying to find a job in california.

  • got me convinced.

    Thank you so much.

  • Kids are a good heart tug... Get the facts. I tend to say no on Prop 23. I don't see it being helpful to California. Still, do not take the word of a child. She touches on emotion, we need to start voting on facts. Most political ads are about emotion and very little about information that we need to know when we are making true choices that will shape our country, state, county and city. Be smart voters and get the real information and not just the feel good emotional jargon that is out there!

  • I was just responding to you identifying yourself as a "jedi-hunter". The fact is a lot of people - especially those who have children - do care what the future may hold for children. For the record, I think commenting on a little girl's video on you-tube and suggesting that no one should care what she thinks is a lot more hostile than my response to you.

  • Good job Megan, but you are being used... a nice cute kid appealing to our heartstrings... It is still just propaganda. Sorry, we can't afford to give the govt more control over our environment at this time; and that is what this Prop will do more than anything.

  • @ProudConservative2 Sure have it your way...more dependence on foreign oil. Way to support the unstable regimes with your oil dollars.

  • @iomega I'm not worried about "foreign" oil... just inexpensive oil or every single thing we buy will go UP! Long before we run out... humans will find ways to replace oil without LAWS... just a need.

  • Great job Meghan!

  • I'm glad kids can't vote.

  • Thank you Meghan! I voted "No" already.

  • im all for clean air,Igrew up in los angeles..but its about more then dirty air..it is about jobs and its about not being dependent upon the whims of an arab shiek and a war and on and on and on..I hope you have a great future in green energy but as for me..im 48 and have heard all this many times in my life;whats the point of breathing clean air if i'm homeless and cant feed nor house my family?...if i;m going to vote on something it better be for something that concern the real folks>the poor

  • OH, now that an 11 year old who was absorbed in the media told me so, I'll do it.

Not that I'm for Prop 23, but this seems like a silly way to make people go against it.

  • @jedihunter176 - is that because you're a Sith?

  • @BiggEarrl Why do you have to be so hostile? All I said it's going to be hard to convince somebody by using a child.

  • Good Job!!!

  • all i know is the Texan got there ass wipped last night by the Giants

  • This is why kids don't vote. The proposition states they don't have to comply "until California's unemployment rate drops below 5.5% for four consecutive quarters", which has happened only 3 times since 1980. Only 3 TIMES! Do you see what the hippies do to this state? I already voted "YES".

  • The last time Texas got involved with California's energy they ripped us off for BILLIONS of dollars and were still paying for it. They sold us energy because we were having an energy shortage do to the fact that everybody wanted to live her then we had a housing shortage and then Bush came along and the economy went to crap. Then Texas still charged us for the energy that we did not receive. Texas just needs to stay out of California. "Fuck Texas"

  • @PEPPYY22 "touché"

and are you really serious about palin for president? that empty shell couldn't govern her way out of a wet paper bag.

  • Hi, I'm Meghan, And I'm reading off a teleprompter.

  • @cokekohla no kidding

  • I HATE POLITICS

  • @DarkAngel8698 don't worry your dictator will decide for you.

  • @mjcvez Mehhh mEHh Im so worried mehh mehhh

  • @DarkAngel8698 Mehhh mEHh I'm glad to hear your not worried mehh mehhh

  • @mjcvez Hey why don't you jump in a lake of crawfish guts?!

  • Using children for an adult agenda is both cruel, and insensitive. While i'm sure this young lady is very bright, its hard to believe that she understands all the issues behind this, especially since the law makers that write these bills rarely understand them. Instead of using children like this, how about we teach them about politics, and how to make up their own minds, not what we want them to believe?

  • @SparklerRose Palin for President!

  • @PEPPYY22 Your an IDIOT. Palin is an IDIOT.

  • @SparklerRose You'd have to prove that there's any coercing the child to begin with to assume what you say. There's no reason to believe that you must understand every single issue in order to have an opinion about something (that's just ridiculous). You'd have to prove that she isn't already being taught about politics in order to make that last statement.

  • out of the mouths of children shall come the truth.

  • ugh, these environmentalists are so pious and naive.

  • Green energy is a tiny tiny percentage of the economy. prop 32 (the prop that this is going to overturn) is going to have no effect at all on the world; california is only a speck in the scope of the whole world. Is it worth sacrificing 1 million jobs and raising the price of everything from gas to electricity to water and more just to satisfy the personal guilt of these environmental crusaders?

    YES on 23!!!!

  • @slowdrum13 Untrue, most everything has an effect on the world no matter how minuscule it may be. The argument is valid...idk about how sound that is but I don't care much about that...just the claim you made at first is clearly untrue.

  • Sorry, I don't buy it. Emotional pleas are always the worst kind of political propaganda. Especially from the Lefty, green side of center. California is in utter financial ruin... we need jobs, and I don't care who provides them. Anyone who invests in California and provides jobs and gets us out of this Leftist decline, gets my vote.

  • @hornycritter

Yeah, a couple of filthy rich texas oil men were sittin around one day and the conversation got around to , "Whata we gonna do for all them poor Californians who can't find work?!". Hey, I gotta bridge I wanna sell yeah after Valero gives you a job, I'll sell it to ya real cheap because I care about yawl.

  • @PEPPYY22

    its ya'll, not yawl

  • @slowdrum13 twoshay socraits! Still sellin that bridge.

  • @hornycritter Thank you for so clearly defining the fundamental problem in conservative thought: "we need jobs, and I don't care who provides them" Some of us patriotic American Liberals believe long term issues are more important than short-term gains. If we let big business run rough-shod over the state, we could have skies as dirty as Houston and a coast painted in oil just like the Gulf. Nein, danke! If the job market doesn't suit you here, well, buh-bye. xxxooo

  • In creating this video, Meghan knew and understood exactly what she was saying, her science project was original, and aside from the cost of a rental microphone (~$63), this video was put together for free by Meghan and a group of caring community members using an HD cam, and good lighting. Far from the inner-most circle, we are merely inclusive environmentally conscious citizens.

As to the heart of the issue: a couple Texas companies with oil refineries in California want to pollute for free.

  • @prop23voices Yup, good job Meghan. Just kill more jobs in CA. We don't have enough now. As long as the Air Board has all the power in CA there won't be any jobs. It's the environmentalists that keep the corrupt AB in power. Vote yes on 23

  • I seriously doubt this girl comprehends what she is saying and is just reading lines. She probably has perfectionist parents that more or less did her science project for her.

The fact that a well connected hedge fund manager funded this commercial corroborates my suspicions. How many of you have access to hedge fund managers to fund commercials for your children? You have to be in the innermost circle of liberal politics to get your child in a commercial like this.

    She should be an actress!

  • Politicians are using big words to describe a simple matter. We don't allow anything innovative and new to grow and flourish to help us. We ask why? The answer is simple. Money. Money makes people greedy, and the greediest people on this planet are in the oil companies. These companies are driven by profit. They only care about themselves and how much they can earn. They don't care about unemployment. They’re here to make money.

We should invest in renewable energy instead. That's worthwhile.

  • She failed to mention that this was funded by a New York hedge fund manager that will make a fortune if this job killing, liberal lunatic initiative fails. It's just more nanny state corruption, don't fall for it.

  • Way to go Meghan!! Best ad yet--informative, and concise--to get the job done, and defeat Prop. 23~ BRAVO!

  • No on 23 in California is a good idea for all the reasons she stated, but it amazes me that we still have to be told. After the Enron initiated power debacle of 2000-backed by sleazy politicians-you would think Californians would be smart enough to recognize that bills backed by OUT OF STATE INTERESTS ARE VIRTUALLY ALWAYS BAD FOR PEOPLE LIVING IN CALIFORNIA.

  • @izzycimins09 Keep Up the good work at SDSU and all CA campuses!

  • Great job Meghan. Thank you.

  • Great video. I hope we can make a serious impact and help bring awareness to this important issue.

  • The lie that big Texas oil and the billionaire Koch brothers, who are behind this cynical proposition, is that it's about jobs. As Meghan so eloquently states, it's about pollution, pollution caused illness, and the continuation of low pay service sector jobs. Real, high value jobs will come from investment in new clean tech energy.

Let's hope Meghan can get her wish for her career in clean energy.

  • @mhnoodle What jobs will be created?. The installation of Solar Panels?, LOW PAY. Manufacture of panels... to be made in China and India and Europe and in other states than California. The manufacture of panels is a low tech job with low pay. Read the 1000 page document that the Ca EPA has in store for us.

  • Wow. This little girl is so compelling. My research shows she is right on the mark. What a shame if California were to stop being the technology leader of this great country.
