Youtube doesn't support surround sound. The way you CAN hear surround sound is through virtual surround software.

On my 5.1 speaker set, the back speakers are NOT playing anything while I play this movie. That is because my speakers work with straight up surround and youtubes videos are in 2.1

My headset does play surround, because my sound card has Dolby Surround software which virtually turns my stereo headset into a surround headset. If you hear surround sound you likely have software enabled

@Kloborgg the fact that i can hear EXACTLY where the sound is coming out of my 5.1 system is why you failed. i hear the surroundsound, and i hear the differences between the front and the rear boxes, thats why I hear surroundsound. i KNOW that youtube allowed 7.1 sound now, thats a fact not something to discuss about. read before yelling arround your "knowledge". i think someone with a 5.1 system knows what surround sound is. you have 2.1 so wtf? u dont know (im sorry for my english :D)

I have a 7.1 system, and it doesn't work. Perhaps you have Pro-Logic enabled, which would make you think you have surround. It's not a matter of "allowing 7.1", it's a matter of compression and flash constraints.

you must have and turn on Dolby Surround / Dolby ProLogic in your system in order to hear the surround sound. otherwise it would be just plain stereo.

@nycrea Yeah you might be right, but all the character in the vid is telling is correct. Right, Left, Right surround, Left surround, Center and Sub. Maybe it's because of the Dolby Surround / ProLogic filter like NissanGTR91 is saying :-) After a second playback I noticed that it's hardly to here the difference between the surround speakers.

@mcmanus1806 Have to have a Digital Output on your computer. Either a Digital COAX (orange coax input) or a Fiber Optical Cable for Digital Audio.... If you're just using the speaker output on your computer, it only support mono or stereo

i just test it with a 2.1 output rca to my LG HT503sh with vsm (virtual sound matrix) on dolby movie or music it decodes the center lett and right without any problem, the rear left and right are decoded as 1 channel for both sides, but it knows is rears (at least) and the s-woof... buRBBB!.. ups sorry :p it decode it perfectly... not bad for a 2.1 audio going to 5.1

Yeah that's exactly the same for me, the rear two are decoded as one, i'm using my SPDif out on my laptop with a TOSlink cable and 3.5mm adapter.

Sicher das ihr das alle nicht mit den Matrix-Sound oder wie das bei jeden SoundSystem auch immer genannt wird, verwechselt? Diese Funktion macht aus Stereo virtuelles 5.1! Und für mich machts schon nen gewaltigen unterschied ob virtuell oder richtiges DolbyDigital 5.1 ;-)

Wenn das nicht der Fall sein sollte, vermute ich das es an meinen Windows 7 Treiber liegt.

Using the x-540 5.1 speaker system at the moment. I find it weird that, while matrix mode is off, I only get stereo, but with it on, I can hear it from it's corresponding speakers. Not virutal cuz I actually put my ear next to the rear speaker and I could clearly hear it!

jeder der sowas behauptet is dumm, youtube stellt solche videos zum streamen bereit, du speicherst sie praktisch kurzzeitig auf deinem pc (cache) und spielst sie auch direkt auf deinem pc ab, youtube bietet nur die grafische oberfläche dazu, die eigentliche arbeit macht der auf deinem pc installierte flashplayer, deine soundkarte und natürlich dein soundsystem, youtube hat damit nix zu tun... ^^
