  • many moons ago rachel was my neighbor. i have fond memories of summer days with the windows open, listening to the sound of rachel playing the violin...

  • its a pleasure to see her playing

  • this is very expressive playing.

  • Saw expresive, and delicate, awsome and beatiful.

  • IT was so beautiful..............until the double stops came in! :(

  • so amazing

  • ...what i would do for your talent...

  • Wonderfully performed Rachel! I remember when you were just a young girl playing in the CSO with my sister Amy (Oboeist). I had gone to see my sister play and was completely impressed with your playing even back then! So full of emotion and expression...THAT is what sets apart a good musician from a great one. You are one of the few great ones :) I appreciate the chance to view some of your performances here, as I can't get out to see them live much anymore. Keep up the wonderful work!

  • Not too shabby. ;) But she can't compare to a legend like Fritz Kreisler, who plays this piece with his palpable charm and heaven sent tone, truly music from a bygone era, characterized by fast vibrato and fast portamenti.

  • Amazingly beautifulll!!!!!!!!!!!

  • a wonderful piece!! Would love to find the recording soon

  • My word...

  • Does anyone know if there is sheet music to this piece???

  • Beautifully done. My teacher had seen Maude Powell live many times and owned some of her recordings. My teacher was born in 1879.

  • tribute to ur teacher.....

  • she'd be dead man.

  • no she wouldnt

  • Is there sheet music of this arrangement for sale anywhere?

  • wonderful

  • Rachel, I don't know if I've ever heard you play anything more beautifully...and I've been listening for almost 20 years! I just love the African American spirituals and Powell's setting is perfection. Truly wonderful.

  • wow!!!

  • Absolutely heart rending, so direct and unpretentious; America would be so much the poorer if it were not for African American music- civilized people understand this. Thanks for introducing Maud Powell, and for presenting music from our own land.

  • That was beautiful Rachel :) I'll have to get the music from you this fall.

  • Another example of why I think Rachel is one of the finest violinists - ever. Bravo!

  • Well done, excellent. Maud Powell also sold more recordings than any other violinist in her time. She once said that recording made her nervous because in a concert your play for a few thousand people, but with recordings, you play for endless generations in the future. She was ahead of her time.

  • Beautiful! And your commentary is always so interesting, too! Thanks for sharing.. more please!! :)
