@patty00ify You are a coward for making comments like this. Anyone that works in the Royal Oak Post Office now and was also there in 1991 know the enormous amount of good Charlie has done for that place. You obviously have not seen the movie and are only making comments behind the veil of this medium. Anyone working in the Royal Oak district during that time will tell you that the management gang of thugs pushed people to the edge. You certainly kept your head in the sand back then.
(Continued) to go back and kill people is NOT NORMAL. I don't care how terrible they were to him. To go back and KILL people you have to be mentally ill. People are so desensitized to seeing murder that they excuse Tom's behavior.
I want to comment on the massacre at the Royal Oak post office in Michigan in 1991. I was working there at that time. Tom Mcllvane was mentally unstable. He even received a dishonorable discharge from the army for driving over someones car with a tank. This long hair at the post office (who is still there) keeps defending Tom and acting like it was not his fault. It was the fault of the diffiicult managment at that time. Even if they punched Tom in the face when they fired him, to (continued)
Saw the film Thursday night in Royal Oak. It was very powerful. Workplace violence has become so commonplace that the American public has become immune to it. Hopefully this film will refocus attention on the dispicable management tactics used in the Postal Service. They haven't changed one bit in the 19 years since the Royal Oak tragedy. Thanks Emil and thanks Charlie Withers.
I know 3 of the people in this video. The guy at :58 seconds pushing the hamper, the truck driver at :59 seconds, and the long haired guy they are talking to.
I understand that the producer has been contacted by USPS headquarters asking for a private screening of the movie before it is released to the public. I hope they are worried and I hope the movie exposes the kind of culture they have fostered within the Post Office. Something has got to change here. Its been almost 19 years since the tragedy in Royal Oak and nothing has been done to hold anyone accountable and that is still a problem.
A deadly combination of economic rationalism, increasing competition, 'downsizing' and the current fashion for tough, dynamic, macho management styles have created a culture in which bullying can thrive, producing 'toxic' workplaces . Such workplaces perpetrate
dysfunction, fear, shame, and embarrassment, intimidating those who dare speak out and nurturing a silent epidemic.
So true. They'll manipulate the numbers, to make them be what they want them to be. Then they harass the carrier to make that time. Postal management's motto is, "Screw up, move up.
Postal management still hasn't learned. They think the best way to improve production is through threats and intimidation. They falsify documentation and cost the post office millions in grievance procedures.
this doesn't just go on at the post office. Psychological terror has become the norm in the Workplace.

What a shock! USPS "managers" did a "study" and found out there is no problem. Systemic abuse is the problem, and it starts at the TOP.

It isn't just the post office - if you talk to your inner circle of friends/family you will find someone who has been bullied at work.
In the past the only way to escape it has been if you were able to quit.
