Am I the only one that thinks solos like this are a little indulgent? Vinnie is my all-time favorite, but even this gets old after a while. Definitely so in a band setting.
Oh and by the way I will be posting the entire song with guitar solo soon. Now that You tube allows songs to be longer. Look for it at lasorituptooq.
Next year (2012) I will be releasing a second CD with Vinnie, which is Part II of a two day 13 song recording session we did in 1999. Check out Part 1 (Tracking) at littlebeckmusic web site. It is from that CD that this was performed.
Everyone in my ensemble knew that we were playing with a true genius on drums. I have known Vinnie since we went to school together at Berklee. He is a true friend and a passionate artist. Just a note that know one knows but Vinnie and I and a few friends: before the concert Vinnie explained to me that when he turn his snare off and worked the drums and toms (2:23) he was in fact imitating the running and stampeding and so much more of the "Buffalo". Which is what the song is about.
Major dilli gaf... Neil Peart does not even have 1% of the technical ability, or experience playing jazz / improvisational music that Mr. Colaiuta has.
Vinnie, is a great all around player, and there are many other great players, if you don't believe me go to PASIC 2011. In the future lets compare drummers that are similar in style and ability.
Unreal. I've been searching here trying to find a good video with decent audio quality with Vinnie doing his thing. This is superb as he is just tearing it up. Vinnie deserves all of the accolades as he has been one of the elite drummers for a long time.
Vinnie is one of the greatest drummers of our time!!! It's cool if you don't like him but know one can say he's not good. Just look at his achievements, awards, and resume!!!! It's no wonder he's one BEST ALL AROUND DRUMMER 10 times in a row, and 8 DRUMMER OF THE YEAR AWARDS BY MODERN DRUMMER!!!! you don't get that recognition by sucking!!!!!!
yeah he likes rudiments. Ive seen him live with Hancock in Spain, he played soooo different than usual, even the clips with Herbie on Youtube. It was the best I had ever seen.... really....He is a god
His "rudiments" probably sound a shit load better than what ever you can do! So plz don't diss a guy like Vinny. He's a complete different level than you and I put together!
You have he right to your opinion (obviously) but some of the best musicians on the Planet might have to disagree. He has played with Jeff Beck (and still is) Herbie Hancock ( a Legend), Chick Corea, Alan Holdsworth, Sting, Chakah Khan, Joni Mitchell, just to name a few. Why do they hire him?? They must see something you dont.
'rudiments in certain speed' sounds like a comment from someone who doesn't know or appreciate Vinnie's body of work. He has laid down some great stuff with a lot of artists in a lot of different styles.
For some guys, a 4-5 minute clip will show just about everything they've got. That's not true with Vinnie.
Liking his stuff or notis a matter of taste. Calling people idiots for being amazed by him is kinda weak, however.
"No man...you don't know shit...Portnoy is the best drummer in the world !"...good lord...I've had people seriously tell me that when speakign about Vinnie. Gives me stomach pains just thinking about it. Vinnie is God !
This guy is the master!!!.

What an amazing solo!
Vinnie is the king....
Then Chambers, then Mayer, then Weckl, then after another 1000 drummers you would get down to guys like Travis and Joey lol!
OK let's not start that old debate again!
What a solo!
