@peterbiltexd mechanical (aprx 280 hp) cat) 7 speed, no trailer brake, no tach, They only had speedo, oil, water temp and air reservoir gauge and tractor and trailer protector/ parking air brake controls. Oh, and an air horn, wiper control and heater. NO a/c or mirror heaters or anything else but air seat . Top speed in 1990? 56-57 mph or unlimited, downhill in neutral. Just ask "Mouse"
Aw man, thanks for posting this up! I've never driven for CF cuz of course, this was a time when I just barely got into trucking. It wasn't long after I started driving trucks when CF shut its' doors. I still remember driving down the highway and the conversation of CF shutting down for good was all over the CB frequency. If I remember correctly, it was late in 2001 when all this happened.
Silly freight hauler trucks, no jake brake, no horsepower to pull the moutain, Cf was awsome, could run 50 to 55 mph on dry pavement with diamonds, most trucking companies are gay, the son or grandson never drove truck, kick ass on the mountain despite a lousty 325 horsepower, in this day and age, lick my roids,. happy thanksgiving, you are considered gay if you do not have at least 400 horses to pull the grade.
My dad drove for cf locally growing up. I would get so excited if I saw a cf truck go by and would look to see if dad was inside! One time he took me inside and let me drive around the lot. It was a great place to work and he would bring us home cf safety badges- a reward for each year of accident-free driving. The friends we made from cf were great people and will last a lifetime, it really was recognized as a great union business with very honorable, hard working employees.
almost all my unvcles and my grandpa worked for em my grandfather was in charge of saftey for all of the company i got a feww smaller colectibles but wish i had a actual truck with pups
I have a exact 1:54 scale model of this CF truck with two piggy back trailers. Same model freightliner and piggy back trailers. What's the number on the trailer the ones on my model trailers are 15-171 and 15-173.
don't know about that terminal by shamrock. cf for many years was on 25th ave. and sherman ( just south of associated grocers) cf had opened a new terminal in 2001 just south of revlon off 51st.ave below buckeye rd. i drove at cf 1985-2002. emery and conway as well as freightliner and road systems trailers were all cf companies one time.
I drove for cf out of flagstaff and phoenix. video brings back some memories. 1984 on had 7 speeds. 6 speeds before. for many years rpm allowed only 57mph...once in a while i would get a truck that was "tuned up" and they could run!! 60,70,even 75! after 1991 most units would run 61-62 then 64. thanks!
there is an old termial next to shamrock foods in phoenix off of encanto road can you tell me who that used to belong to? It's probably to have been to small to be a CF terminal, what years did you drive for CF?
i may be only 16 but when i was like 6+ i saw some CF trucks still hanging around> thanks for keeping history alive, they just dont make trucks like they used to
I always wondered what kind of transmissions the CF trucks had! I always thought it might be a 7 speed cuz I never saw a range selector or a gear splitter.
Great video! I drove for CF in camarillo ca,small barn yard, people there were great. I sure would love to buy one of those tractors and trailers to ad to my collection!! I really appreciate your video! God bless. busamov59
