  • I'm changing my name to Steve.

  • I did not know backstreet boys played any instrument and Triumph is almost as good as them. Hahahaha the guy who posted that is a moron.

  • this is great, but i just like steve howe (plays on studio version of this song) so much more than rik emmett. imagine a video of this with steve howe

  • Wow. They are almost as good of musicians as the backstreet boys! I have become of fan of these two unknowns!

  • @717021 Unknowns!!!!!! I guess you don't play guitar. I'm only 24 and I Have worshiped these guys forever! Check 'em out Triumph and Dixie Dregs, they will melt you're face!

  • @nickslespaul Uh....I was joking.

  • @70goldtop You couldn't be more wrong. Steve is the very opposite of what you say. He is as humble as he is extraordinarily talented. If you met him, you would understand. By the way, it's very easy to do so. After every single concert he's ever given, he makes himself available for fans to talk and sign any damned thing you bring. Last time, he signed my Ampeg V-4 and chatted me up for 5 minutes, after which he set the amp to his normal stage setting for me so I could cop his tone precisely.

  • @70goldtop He is great. And that song was amazing, to me at least.

  • @70goldtop I agree that Kossoff is great, but to slag Morse is just silly. Steve Morse is hardly the show off. For the talent that he has, he should be more of a household name.

  • Astonishing, I was falling into a bad depression and listening to this lifted me out of it.

  • Yeah I think wow says enough

  • AWESOME!... And then some!! ;^)

  • These two guys are the best of the best. They just love music. Great video.

  • @rikfan3 Rik is still AMAZING!! ;^)

  • What genius says it all. a few comments down stated he has been with DPurple for 16 years. Man I am getting old.

  • The reason these great guitarists are playing Ovations is that Ovations are great guitars! Clear, resonant, and easy on the fingers.

  • If it weren't for those fucking "B" strings...I'm like Morse - gotta be in tune! (He has an in-line tuner for his stage guitar and uses it between songs - sometimes in the middle of a song!)

  • Morse is a monster. I swear Emmett is a better acoustic player than electric and damn versitile! Love it.

  • I knew it, steve is and elf... only that kinda magic could make u play so good...

  • Need god? Here's two! They healed my soul!

  • Great guitarists...playing crappy ovations.

  • There is probably a reason for that.

  • WoW! THIS is the SHITT!

  • good stuff

  • Bowing down now............I miss the Dregs!! Musicians Exchange Ft Lauderdale-good times

  • All I'm left with is "ga" and a little spittle making its way down my chin.

What do you say to something this brilliant??!

  • @47TheSteve No kidding bro! I wish someone could suggest a better acoustic duet; Because damn I wanna see it!

  • Comment removed

  • @Tacomadome24 I love duets like this. Love to see Petrucci, Gilbert, Vai, Moore, Satriani. Love seeing talented musicians play like this.

  • My 2 Favorite Guitarists.

  • That was so flawless. I've lost count how many times I've seen Steve in concert. I've seen Rik with Triump twice. Saw them as a new band in 1978 for only about $3.00. (Yes, I'm dating myself).

  • @SiberianMan2u same here bro, we were in the 8th row on that Triumph tour for 7$ at the outdoor amphitheater at San Diego State University.... it was AMAZING!

  • Always liked the clip. Shows Rik's talent

  • Steve Morse can play anything on guitar...Folk, Mambo, Heavy Metal, Brutal, Death, Gospel, Hip Hop, Celtic music, Techno music, he can do the Robot playing Tumeni Notes and he could make a breakfast for you playing Ice Cakes with his foot fingers.

This guys is a living legend.

  • @tiroso Well said. Steve has been so busy playing with Deep Purple for the past 16 years we might never really see him play Dregs/Steve Morse Band stuff again like the old days. He recently played a few nights with Dave LaRue and a session drummer at the Iridium in NYC but I saw a few videos of them and it wasn't that good. DP has been touring forever and seems poised to continue unless Gillan keels over. Now, far be from me to wish such a thing, but...I miss Steve terribly.

  • This is flippin' MONSTROUS! Look at Rik smiling during Steve's solo! Where is this from? Is it from a DVD that can be had online? Thank you SO much for posting!

  • @ToddGilmore I know it was done in the MuchMusic studio in Toronto.

  • finally - some music

  • he said we just do this few minutes ago......@@!!!!how brilliant they are

  • Talent, musicianship, dedication to a craft. Stuff like this should be in the Smithsonian, buried in a time capsule, & beamed into outer space. Let's be honest, in today's world of fluff and reality tv mediocrity, people have no idea what "talent" is. This should be required viewing, instead we get, and no offense to the lady, Susan Boyle, Clay Aiken, Lee Dewyze....etc.....zzzzzzzz. Go to Steve Morse website and read his latest blog post, he's got some interesting things to say.

  • Excellant playing..

  • Brilliant!

  • I love Rik and Steve

  • I love Rik's respect to Steve Howe in this.

  • To amend the last post GET!

  • Does guitar playing much better?

  • no one can fill steve howes shoes sorry !

  • Nice! I've always wanted to see Steve play this song live, I love it soo much. His classical pieces are great to listen to and even more impressive to see him play. The problem with Steve is he makes it look so damn easy. I've just recently gotten a new respect for Rik Emmett. I've always know he was very good...but seeing his vids here makes me respect him even more.

  • I miss the old MTV :(

  • Awesome dregs piece

  • Ah Much Music when they actually played music?!?!

  • 2:30-2:40 gotta love the big shitty grin on Emmett's face haha

  • Those damned B strings!

  • nice....I liked Steve Morse a lot.

  • It's absolutely awsome... thanks for the videos...

  • Steve is damn good...too

  • Jizztastic!

  • steve is sooo cooool

  • Thanks for the post: an old Dregs song. Sounds beautiful.

  • great homage to steve howe in the beginning

  • pretty incredible stuff! steve has been in deep purple for years, while blackmoore plays this stuff at renissance Fairs,Rick emmet one of the best 80's shredders & singers,Triumph Live at the Us festival still a favorite dvd,

  • what happened to Much Music?

  • @mvesanen lol excellent point. I've been saying that for 15 years. When they started MMM, I thought at least there would remain one music station, but now that's a turd. MM has had a run on know nothing VJs since "Rick the Putz". Back then, guys like Steve A, M. Williams, and Chris Ward knew the industry. Hell, Ward's a prolific song writer. It's a real shame we don't have a REAL music station anymore.

  • back when they actually had musicians and real music on Much Music.......it's a shame some of the stuff on there now

  • Soooo good. Loved this movie. Oh yah, it was on my movie kiosk . com

  • Love to hear this on some nice hand built guitars today. Yummilicious!

  • Masters !!

  • wow, that was so mind blowing, I dont know what to do with myself anymore. Steve Morse, you are a GUITAR/THEORY GOD.

  • always dug this tune.

kinda has a Gentle Giant feel to it, yes?

  • Yes, I think this does have a little Gentle Giant vibe (although Gary Green cannot duplicate Steve's ridicuous soloing - no one really can). That being said, Gentle Giant is AWESOME. One of my favorites along with Dregs and Steve Morse Band. I was lucky enough to have seen GG live on one occasion and it was the best concert I ever saw. They broke up two years later - and of course have never played again (However, look for "Three Friends" on web for Gary Green & friends playing GG stuff)

  • You are a lucky person, having been able to catch GG live. I've only heard stories, w/them running around stage changing from instrument to instrument, all during the same tune. When I heard the IaGH for the 1st time, it was all over for me ;)

GG was mind blowing in terms of the complexity they were pulling off live. I agree, though, Morse/Dregs had a better vibe, for me personally, when it came to the rock-driven groove & he/they weren't too shabby either when it came to the progressive edge.

  • Paul Brett can.

  • NICE

  • Genius.

  • God...what genius!

  • FANTABULOUS ! ! ! !

  • Rik is coming back to Texas in November - Dallas on the 20th and Houston on the 21st. Check out the websites for Poor David's Pub (Dallas) and McGonigel's Mucky Duck (Houston) for ticket info.

  • Awesome performance.

  • Who was the best Dregs lineup? parrish/lavitz, west/la rue, later ones...?

  • My vote's for the "Unsung Heroes" ensemble. I really admire Mark O'Connor, but I think he wasn't the best fit. LOVED with with the Grisman bluegrass quintet!

  • i kinda partial to the early years, as that's when i saw them live, and Rod Morgenstein is on my short list of favorite drummers.

His SMB stuff with Larue/Romaine is right up there though. "Foreign Exchange" is an incredible acoustic duet with LaRue.

  • @00s00m Dregs were always good no matter the lineup. Dave LaRue never played with the Dregs per se, although he did play concerts with them - always when doing a double bill with the Steve Morse band. Dregs were always Steve, Rod Morgenstein, Andy West, and Allen Sloan, with keyboard players Parrish then Lavitz, with violinists Mark O'Connor and then Jerry Goodman when Sloan bowed out (no pun intended?). Always loved the original band with Sloan, but cannot deny O'Connor and Goodman's chops.

  • I think Steve went to University of Miami too & taught there. He is a long-time pilot of his own twin-engine planes & flies his family to gigs himself. He quit touring some years ago & became a commercial airline pilot. A few years later & he's back making beautiful & amazing music again. I've been a fan since 1979. This song does have a Steve Howe style to it. Rik is awesome. Saw Triumph back in the day. Good post!

  • from 1:40 to 1:52 and from 2:09 to 2:18 is just incredible!

  • Is Steve Canadian too?

  • no hes from Georgia got his masters in music an the University of GA where he formed the Dixie Dregs

  • humbled they are kings of rock

  • Emmett can freakin' play....

  • Hot damn...Absolutely brilliant!!!

Have seen both Steve and Triumph years ago.(Not together though.)

I saw Triumph at the Fox in Atlanta in '79...about the same time I first heard of Steve...when Freefall came out.

  • This is music that you would never see today on T.V. at anytime. Two extremely talented guitarist playing a complex acoustic piece.

  • True skill from two great guitar players.

If you think this is easy just try playing it!!!

As good as Segovia, Juliam Bream, John Williams and Steve Howe etc etc..

Wow! And they are both rock guitarists.

Me thinks I may as well cut my fingers off now and save myself the trouble of trying to compete as this standard.

    Thanks for posting this.

  • soooooo, after wayching this close to a zillion tomes now, im still amazed each time. thanks yet again fortywives

  • Beautiful! Something Korn... Slipknot could never understand, much less play.

  • well said

  • well you're comparing two different genres of music... Korn sucks regardless in my opinion. but not every band out there is gonna play stuff like this. its like saying Tupac sucked because he didn't right symphonies like Beethoven.

  • But Tupac does suck.

  • that is a matter of personal opinion. but you misread what i typed. im not trying to start an online argument because its pointless. its just that people like Durdmiester don't understand the concept of music and how people use it to express themselves. not every musician in the world is going to write music like this. if they did then music would be very 1 dimensional, and boring.

btw, im also not claiming to be a tupac fan.

    cheers.

  • I agree with you. I'm just not a fan of rap. I agree with you 100%.

  • Tupac sucks? Have you even listened to his music, OR watched his movies.

He was a talented guy. R.I.P 'Pac

  • amazeing could you veiw n 004 and comment or advise i thank you donottawaguitar

  • What a killer piece of acoustic goodness!!!

  • I always loved this.

Industry Standard is the best thisng that The Dregs ever did!

  • That's saying a LOT! It's a great album no doubt, but come on, what about Dregs of the Earth? Night of the Living Dregs? I like those better.

  • While both of those are awesome, Industry Standard still is the one that does it for me.

  • I'm with you on this. Night of the Living Dregs, Dregs of the Earth, Unsung Heroes... I like all those better than Industry Standard...

  • wow!!!!!!!

  • My how Much Music has changed ...Brilliant!

  • what guitar did he use on that video ? any1 knows ? Great playing...

  • Looks like Steve is playing an Ovation.

  • I remember watching Morse play an acoustic solo opening set for the trio of John McLaughlin, Al DiMeola, and Paco de Lucia, 3-4 years before this, when they toured supporting their second recording together. he joined them later in their set. his playing has always been stupefying, but it my be even more startling to hear on an acoustic. it's genius-type stuff.

  • @truthero Saw Steve as well on that tour in Hartford, CT. As much as I love the other three, Steve kicked ass on all of them. He was supposed to cover for DiMeola when he dropped out, but AD was able to come back and Steve was out. He arranged to play with them anyway (at greatly reduced pay) as the opening act, joining them at the end for a few songs. The only reason I went was to see Steve; the others just had a cock fight. Morse rules!

  • Amazing playing. clap clap.

  • @ 1:43 you can tell how amazed Rik is with Steve's skill.

  • Two technical efficianatos at their best. Who could ask for more?

  • Damn, this is total domination and control of the instrument!

  • No doubt.

  • Steve Morse is the best rock guitar composer i´ve ever heard, his technique and his harmony knowledge are awesome...

  • It remembers me Air from jason becker. Classic and similar rythm also. Fabulous anyways!

  • simply wonderfully, it makes me smiling and dreaming as i´m hearing it :)

  • Love the synchronicity.

  • dam !! talent erupt's !!!

  • All day, every day!!! Damn!!!

  • Two lefties who play righty. Awesome.

  • Nice work.

  • Grandes guitarristas, pero uno de los más pendejos camarágrafos...el truco es en la mano derecha...

    ¡Viva Mexico Putos!

  • Steve Morse Sorry !!!!

  • number one

  • Sweeeeeeeet!!!

  • wow, this is beautiful

  • Why could stuff like this came every

    day on TV ??? :(

  • Rik is the best rocker on classical guitar. Steve Morse is pretty damn good, and Alex Lifeson is pretty good also, but Rik wins hanfs down

  • Was that a solid 10 performance or what?

  • Did he just lose the B-string? Damn, that was impressive. Mullets all around...

  • "Mullets all around... "

    LOL!

  • Yup, he lost a B srting. I used to have nightmares about that happening to me on stage!

  • Actually, Rik didn't "lose" a B string - it was just was way the hell out of tune (sharp) and somehow didn't catch it before playing. I know for a fact that Steve is a serious stickler for tuning (witness him tuning while Rik does not) and was no doubt bummed out, as he mentions after they finish the song. Steve is also famous for using a tuner onstage: his guitar rig first goes to an A/B box that he uses to switch to a tuner between songs - or in the middle of a song if needed!

  • Sorry - FLAT not sharp.

  • Killer! great post!

  • for those who says that STEVE MORSE IS BETTER IN GUITAR WILL RIK EMMETT KICK HARD IN SINGING. . . so BOTH are extraordinary

  • Robin Hood by .38 Special is also a song that reminds me of a great effort where the gutarists are all on the same page. Check it out.

  • its hilarious!!! chill dude

  • its cause hes feeling the music.. who cares about how he look. watch him play that freaking guitar.

  • awesome hpe they can play again sometimes... steve's a monster! haha awesome!

  • Hey Chonch51, Rik is the one on the right.

  • this is brilliant. but apparently doesn't appeal to the lowest common denominator.

  • very classical music. . . is this MTV?? now they put a bunch of SHIT and CRAP ON MTV. . . this guys still kick ass to all the idiotic musicans on they have now

  • This is Muchmusic, out of Toronto.

  • your a dumb ass stupid idiot! both are amazing!

  • well you seem stupid

  • this music is great. Maks me think of Robin Hood as well so it's twice as mega now!

  • Damn they are good! I have seen Steve and was fortunate enough to see Rik with Triumph in Atlanta at the FOX!!! In '79...my God it's been that long??? LOL

  • steve morse is without a doubt one of the greatest guitarists,Deep purple always get the best.

  • WOW

  • This is just so mazing... made me cry!

  • OMG !

Fantastic ! They are just the best ! Fantastic song. Damn Steve is fast ! :D

  • Why don't you see these guys on MTV or VH1?......answer is: Because they have talent. I bet if Rik and Steve wore eye makeup and painted the nails black and had a stupid name like "Taking Back Sonething" they would be all over it......these guys are masters!

  • Funny thing is this is a session on Much Music - Canada's answer to MTV!

  • Sweeeeeeeet!!!

  • Absolutly great......Steve is absurdly nuts.

    He is beyond of music.

    Unrated

  • Everyone who comparing who's better should probably take into consideration that between the two of them their not even thinking about that kind of crap! If you ask either one their probably happy about the idea of just being able to play together. You know, the whole mutual respect thing? True musicians of that caliber don't worry about that crap.

  • THANK YOU! I hate when people compare guitarists. All my friends say who's better Ritchie Blackmore or Steve Morse. And I always say who cares!

  • Thanx for the back up!

In my "know it all" young idiot days used to be one of the "who's better that who" type people.

Now that I'm quite a bit older, and have seen guitarist come and go, I realize that every guitar player, whether you like their style or not, has something to offer.

I for one don't REALLY care much for country music, BUT I DON'T CRAP ON IT, because there are some really FANTASTIC musicians in country music that I have the utmost respect for.

    Thanx again...

  • This one is better, that one is better. Blah. Just enjoy it for what it is, sweet music played by two talented and nice guys. I for one am grateful to have even heard it, its beautiful.

  • My fiend when someone says that kind of things is almost sure it is conciously or unconciously trying to cover up for something he misses. Saying is your favorite because you feel more conected to his/her music is a different matter though.

    Cheers

  • Steve Morse is The Great One, to be sure. Rik did a fine job, especially since he's not the guy who did this tune on vinyl. That was Steve Howe. Emmett is to be commended.

  • Fantastic!!

  • absolutely fucking nuts, kudos to rik for keeping up with the morse monster

  • This is not a Rik piece, with all due respect, he's holding on by the seat of his pants in case you can't tell. He did a fine job, but never jump on one of Morse's pieces of music lightly if you're the guitar player, it will humble you very quickly, it's among the most demanding stuff ever written. If you're able to get 20% of what Steve does you're doing pretty well in most cases.

  • DUDE!! are you on drugs?? Steve Morse is great, Rik's right there buddy, believe me, ive seen them all. Take a look at the other piece they did, i think Steve is tryin to hold on. Hey, they are both 2 of the all time greats! Steve is definately more technical i will agree. Cheers, Rob

  • I'm with robbieD09 on this one. Sure, there's no one like Morse, but Rik is on top of this, no problem. He doesn't just get by on it, he plays it beautifully. Morse is my favorite guitarist, but I've got a new found respect for Rik Emmet just watching this video.

  • emmetts one of my favorites too. hes just arespectful humble guy, but i no him, seen him twice live, he could do this in his sleep. and obviosly so can morse

  • As good as rik is you got to admit that steve is way more advanced guitar player.

  • uhhh...ya think?
