@sarkasmi83 Don't worry...I kinda had the same issue, or maybe worse. I'm from Uruguay, and our system here is NTSC BUT my parents in a trip to Europe bought me a SNES. Do you know how hard it was for me to get games?? I had to wait for someone to go back there to play new titles!!! And to make matters worse....I knew that my system was inferior cuz I had friends who had American SNES so I could compare. And buying a new console was not an option :(

Yeah, i definitely prefer the robots too.

I kind of liked the idea of having two robots fight for Earth; a delicious irony in having heroes defending humanity against inhuman beings to not be human themselves. ^^ Its a welcome change from the usual beefed up muscle-bound stereotype coming to save the day in every 80s action-film.

Thank you, Germany. If not for you, i would have probably discounted this game as one of oh so many Rambo-wannabes and probably left it in the store.

No! It's the Uncle Fester gun! AVGN mentioned the dysfunctionality of that type of weapon in his review of 'Fester's Quest'. I can't imagine the concept would have worked much better in 'Probotector'. A single projectile makes sense. Full-auto makes sense. Spread gun makes sense. Lasers make sense. Rockets and grenades make sense. But that lo0pitty lo0p thing just doesn't fly.

European censorship caused the whole change of the title. It's called "Contra" where it was made and in North America and parts of Central and South America. The title comes from the Contrarevolucion soldiers of Nicaragua during it's civil war. The reason PAL countries changed it, was they didn't want children playing violent games involving people, so they changed the characters to machines.

This is one of the best game I ever played on the NES. It took me and my bro years later to finally clock the series. I prefer the robots too, but I only found out the original Contra recently. I found it funny but also cool that the main characters there were based off Arnie and Stallone. =P Music wasn't slowed down in Probotector 2 though.

PROBOTECTOR proves cencorship ain't always a bad thing. I don't have anything against testosterone commando dudes shooting everything down, like they had in original CONTRA, but as I waisted countless of evenings playing PROBOTECTOR with my brothers and friends... Honestly, I could never even imagine playing this with humanoid characters. For future PROBOTECTOR/CONTRA titles they should give an option to choose wich ever version you wan't to play; With Machines or with humans.

This isn't a ripoff of Contra, this is a censored version of Contra. Back in the day, Europe had pretty strict rules for violence in videogames, and it was deemed that Contra was too violent since it had humans and humanoids in it. So all the humans and aliens were changed to robots, and it was renamed Probotector.

I personally like the Mechas much more. But it's true. Most of the developers didn't really care about the Europeans, except of some like HAL or Natsume. Konami, Capcom, etc. began releasing edited versions of NES games late.

I bought this game today and I have to say it's true. The game's running a bit slower. It seems Konami was being lazy, updating the game engine for the PAL release. But it's still enjoyable and as hard as the NTSC version, I like Probotector. :)

Dude, you're emulating a PAL game, you need to set it to a higher framerate, if you don't, it'll do exactly what it would do if you could fit a European Nintendo game and tried to play it on an American or Japanese console, that is, go in slow motion. I know Probotector and Contra are both the same game, just different versions, but I like probotector's robots, yet I like Contra's humanoids. They need a game where they're both combined.

Have you ever watched acespark's videos? No it isn't in full speed, it seems like it's in full speed to the emulator, becaue the European roms are set to a slower setting, because the European systems move faster for some reason.

European systems move SLOWER, not faster. Emulators reduce the speed because an actual European system would do the same.

PAL is a 50Hz standard, compared with NTSC which is 60Hz. The game runs at 5/6 the original speed.

This is the version I grew up with and have my fond memories of. probotector or contra, the gameplay still owns today, what a great game this was, luckily I still have a workin nes. probotector is the version developed for europe, thats why the had to change the humans into robots so that there was no violence going on. and the music is so slow because the american tvs were superior to the european ones, the music had to be so slow or else the tvs couldnt have played it
