  • I wanna see !! Anyone knnows where i can see it ?

  • As a Japanese who knows the original series done by Shintaro Katsu, this Kitano version is disgusting and silly. It is just a poor remake with blond hair and tap dance line. The TV series in monochrome by Katsu were really great. You could even smell sweat and blood. He was actually a master of traditional vocal and instrument "Shamisen" and also performed well traditional dance. No wonder that he was good at sword play too. Kitano is just phony and cheap.

  • That's no way to draw a sword inside.

  • watched, its nice!

  • this is indeed one of the best samurai films =D and funny as hell also.

  • @SuperLumipallo Totisesti, hyvä filmi. ...minulla on tämä DVDnä : |

  • One of my favourite samurai films! Definitely up there with Seven samurai (1954) and Lone Wolf and Cub

  • Takeshi Kitano IS SKILLED WITH BLOOD MOVIES HA HA

  • Hey, it's Vic Romano.

  • my favorite non-Kurasawa Japanese film.

  • This movie is fucking awesome.

  • Great movie! Starring Takeshi Kitano himself!

  • Im selling a DVD of this excellent movie on ebay. Item #: 320681002199

  • how about a one armed swordsman vs a blind swordsman?

  • IMHO, Zatoichi-1989 (Aka Darkness Is His Ally), the final installment by Shintaro Katsu, IS the ultimate and definitive Zatoichi, and it pretty much closes the entire "blind superhero" subgenre. It is also strangely one of the kindest and most human swordplay/martial arts films. You could definitely tell Mr Katsu was putting a lot of his heart into it. I do respect Kitano's work (Hanabi my favorite) but this Zatoichi was one of his lesser films.

  • @5anjuro How the hell does a movie ''close'' a genre?

I think Takeshi's Zatoichi is the best one. And maybe there will be even more, better Zatoichi's.

  • @AliG4life no way, Sanjuro is right on...Katsu Shin is Zatoichi and now that he's dead the series is over, this film was ok but not even close to being better than any of the original 26 films

  • @Houstone2ndward Are you sure that's not your nostalgia talking?

  • @AliG4life i didn't like the directing, the goofy dancing at the end of kitanos film and the part where the zatoichi says he's only blind because he keeps his eyes closed.(being blind was a big part of zatoichi he really hated to be teased about his disability thats what motivated him to become a master swordsman, it's an insult to the character to say he's not really blind) i can admit in the original series #6,16,24 didn't have the best directing but at least it kept with character.

  • @gangstanikes Alright, fair enough. I still disagree, but at least you explained why you didn't like the movie.

I thought the dance at the end was amazing. xD

  • @AliG4life agreeeeeee

  • amen on that

  • Shintaro was the man. Takeshi's Zatoichi was nowhere near as good. It's hard to condense a lifetime of character into less than two hours, but it's thanx to him i got turned onto the original which i finally managed to locate all 26 episodes(films) and in the process of watching them. Beat is still the man though, like violent cop sonatine boiling point brother etc..

  • where do all you Tarantino haters come from?

  • @ElBraineater666 probably sheltered and biased families

  • @ElBraineater666 I don't think people hate Tarantino but he's given far too much credit by people who know very little.

  • kill bill is useless, best chanbara movie are by akira kurosawa with toshiro mifun

  • anybody know the music?

  • @killerbenji :

    it's "Festivo" from Keiichi Suzuki

Can find it on Zatoichi ost ;)

  • KITANOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

  • Shintaru katsu should get more respect than this shit excuse my language ^*^

  • Shintaru katsu should get more respect than this shit excuse my language

  • Sword action in this movie is sick.

  • THE BEST MOVIE EVER!!!!!<33333333

  • Wasn't Blind Fury a remake of zatoichi?

  • 1304920 x better than Kill Bill

  • very good movie! wanna watch it again

  • Good Lord, I must see this O.o

  • i loved this movie, a classic movie

  • the movie is awesome xD

  • good movie,Zatoichi looks more real and better than an anime samurai.

  • kill bill sucks compared to any kitano film. especially the scene with lucy lui and the overdone blood effects. prefer realism to be honest, just like kitano

  • @yazmatraz I'm no film school kid, but I'm pretty sure a good deal of the blood in Kitano's Zatoichi is added in during editing. Plus, a severed artery will gush or jet because of blood pressure. In any case, both films, I think it's safe to say, defy so-called realism, but neither of them are beyond the suspension of disbelief. Illusions are a part of film-making.

  • this is not zatoichi it never was and never will be....even though i know im going to get alot of hate for saying this...i dont care this movie was complete shit....

  • Don't think Quentin should get the rights to remake this film. I love his movies and all but if they're gonna remake this movie they shouldn't have Hollywood do it. Hollywood has been fucking up a lot of classics with bullshit remakes lately. I'm sorry but no. This movie's just bad ass the way it is.

  • exactly, and would they do all the rhythm dancing etc. why bother to remake? what is so bad about the film that it needs remaking?

    AWESOME Film

  • The ending was just an epic to be remembered.

  • Samuri Spirits III Samuria ShoDown III 1995 S.N.K.

  • Quentin tarantino was to trying to get the rights to do the remake of zatoichi but i dont think he got em.

  • this one is really good

  • hutger hauer? takeshi kitano said he had blond hair to mean zatoichi was not regular japanese but had russian ancestry... now you made me want to watch blade runner again. :|

  • if this film was made in the 2000s why does it camera quality look the same as butch cassidy and the su... made around 1970

  • this film was shot in 2003. what are you talking about, don't judge a dvd film by the shitty quality of its youtube video.

  • I just saw the movie today and I loved it kudos very nice film.

  • this man can never be as good as shintaro katsu

  • in my opinion kill bill is patetic junk movie compered with zatoichi...just my opinion

  • no it's a fact

  • i would have to agree, not to say that kill bill isn't enjoyable for what it is, it just requires more "pregaming" (drinking, smoking or whatever) to be enjoyed. yes zatoichi is better.

  • of course i watch kill bill from time to time but more for reasons of amusement not because the action scenes were very good or something

  • @ballen900 this adaptatin is junk compared to the original series

  • @ballen900 I know you said that like a year ago, but really? How can you even compare the two? I liked both, but they're both very, very, very different.

  • @ballen900 And Takeshi's "Zatoichi" is pathetic junk compared to Shintaro Katsu. And that's a fact.

  • @bakajoe100

For Real . I couldn't even watch this it was so bad. Katsu 4 life.

  • @bakajoe100 agree on that

  • @ballen900 awesome! :)

In Takeshi's favor I have seen him in other movies and always liked him (see Kikujiro, 1999), but he is too slow ... and the tap dancing?? ... so out of context as to make Shintaru sama roll in his grave.

  • @ballen900 Amen, finally somebody who sees it my way.

  • @ballen900

Zatoichi is based upon aincent legend, it has awsome actors ( Takeshi Kitano just fits in way too good), precise choreography and somehow it has everything you can possibly want from movie.

Kill bill is just some usAmerican's fettish that pretends to triute Japanese culture.... and fails.

  • @JOtruba

    you got that right dude

  • @JOtruba The best part about kill bill was the anime part of the movie.

  • @JOtruba Speaky english? No ticky No Laundry

  • @ballen900 kill bill patetic junk ??? what a fuck ???...just my opinion

  • @ballen900 thats why you have 66 thumbs ups! Kill Bill is Shit! i put one mor ethumb up so you get 67!

  • @ballen900 yeahh...

  • @ballen900 hey look everyone a swedish guy jealous of americans.

btw can you name all your great swedish films.. that the whole world knows of?

  • @SaulMeyersz rofl u should calm down there son, no need to be a douchebag, just cuz he like this movie more than kill bill... if u don't want reading comments of people loving foreign movies, then go watch Hollywood trailers or something..

  • @ballen900 dude ur opinon is clear even if u said that !!!! this is great

  • @ballen900 japanese never let us down!

  • @ballen900 your opinion is demonstrably false but okay...

  • @ballen900 its americans making more movies about other countries. Cuz they don't havy any material themselves. except indian slaughter, slavery or oil wars or obesety. Theyve stolen loads of japanese movies before. word for word. or italian. loads of french. even belgian nows. It's pathetic beyond words. So i shan't dirty anymore of my words on it.

  • @AngelBiLove Americans are Italians and French and there's no such thing as Belgians.

  • @smokedeels Your comment makes no sense at all. But im not surprised, considering your education

  • @AngelBiLove I'm not an American and I've had a good education, although not an entirely secular one.

  • @smokedeels Then i pitt yyou nonetheless, for you are but a yank to me.

  • @AngelBiLove I thought we were all brothers under the EU flag, whether we like it or not.

  • @smokedeels yet you stick up for the yanks. they arent french of italian. Their forfathers were the garbage of europe who were so poor they fled to the country of slavery, racism and the KKK and indian murdering, so they are americna, not french nor italian. And if you stick up for yanks, ur no more than they are to me. So f u yanky irishman.

  • Comment removed

  • @AngelBiLove The Yanks are a good bunch, for all the awful culture they've spewed out there's been some remarkable examples too, usually counter-culture movements responding to the bad stuff.

Anyway, chill man... I'm not going to trade insults with you.

  • @AngelBiLove You're retarded.

  • Does anyone know the name of the song?

  • Festivo, tho the trailer only has a sample

  • This is good movie!

  • this man is awesome

    director and actor

  • great movie...

  • not bad-looking. but the originals will neva b matched. Lone Wolf & Cub, the original Zatoichi series, n all the Akira Kurosawa Samurai collection rock! oh n also every samurai film starring Toshiro Mifune! Old-School Foreva!

  • Im a massive fan of the originals, but this film absolutely blew me away, definately on a par with the lone wolf series if not better! thats saying something!

  • awesome film...

  • Zatoichi is the ultimate killing machine, and he's "only" a masseur!

  • this trailer is horrible...

  • He is my favorite Japanese director. This film is so different from his others but no less amazing...I love the series Zatoichi as well but this has Japanese Riverdance! The trailer is quite good but I feel like there should be a little humor shown...

  • true have you ever seen 'brothers'?

im looking for dvd to collect

  • but the real original satoichi was better........ I have seen a lot of his films... and I can tell the old ones (70s) were far much better... if you want to see also good ones try....... the assessin samurai... I have the 6 film series.... super!!!!

  • well this is a Kitano film...

    not a Zatoichi film.

  • yes you are right....... but the movie is about "SATOICHI".... and the original one (now dead) is much better.... I know what I'm telling you.... just try to get some of the late 70s early 80s samurai and japanese martial arts films and you will see what I mean, I know for young people you didn't have the chance to see this films... I had, this is why I am saying the old ones are far better.

  • I like Kenji Misumi's and Kihachi Okamoto's

"ZATOICHI" films from the 60s and early 70s.

But Kitano brings in his style to this.

  • He also brings on the dullness.

  • exactly. i began my interest in collecting the old samurai cinema films on dvd's wen i first watched Lone Wolf & Cub I and II. ive got the first Kurosawa collection n other samurai dvd's starring Toshiro Mifune. but to make it blunt, u r correct. the old films will always pervade

  • I don't think it's a matter of Zatoichi being "better" It can co-exist with the classics and the original. Kurosawa made the best films I'll probably ever see in my life. Still Beat Takeshi is cool and so is this movie.

  • I would love to watch the old films but I have heard there are over 20 of them and to be honest I'm not sure if older movies can keep my attention span!

  • Well then broaden your attention span...and broaden your horizons.

  • Hutger Haure as a Ronin was ridiculous. I prefer the old japanese original zatoichi movie. At least the japanese actor knew Iai-do, the art of sword.

  • At least ''young people'' aren't blinded by nostalgia.

  • Takeshi Kitano is the Biggest Bad ass ever.

  • @SuperNinja8000 NOT EVEN CLOSE. Shintaro Katsu was way better as Ichi. As far as "Biggest Bass Ass", that's Toshiro Mifune by far.

  • @SuperNinja8000

i would suggest to see "Ichi the killer" than... Takeshi is not included BUT there is another Japanese blonde guy... this one is little bit more crazy.

  • this guy is the s***, i read online the people love this guy in Japan because of the morals behind all of is 23 movies, all of the people (or at least most of them) that he kills are actors in Japan that just want to act in his movie. Kung Fu channel rocks!

  • this movie kicked ass! especially the crazy samuraí ;-)

  • Zatoichi wa ii eiga des

  • Wow, abrekarslan is never afraid to express his taste films.

  • Incredible film..5 stars.

  • Nice. This movie looks badass. Samurai movies always kicks ass.

  • what...? you don't think seven samurai is incredible?

  • kurosawa is considered to be a populist film director by japanese people. his movies are pretencious and boring, a person from the new generation can only like kurosawa out of affectation. kitano is a genious.

  • are you kidding me? you cant argue with the world. there both great.

  • that may be true, but it's not really a fair comparison. there are very few directors who are anywhere as near as good as akira kurosawa.

  • Fantastic film, one of the best

  • Takeshi Kitano has to be one of the best directors out there.

I owe my love for Japanese movies to him.

  • and actors and comedians

  • Takeshi-san, ever the comedian.

I've seen this guy do some fairly uninflected acting, but here, even wearing shades, there is a whole subtle *thing* with his face and body language when he puts his arm around the woman.

And the shot with the kite... uff da, the symbolism; a samurai who's lost his stability (and you, the audience, are by extension an innocent schoolgirl... priceless).

    Amazing, funny, tragic, awesome, perfect.

  • Beat is one of the best contemporary auteurs.

  • Dude,this movie kicks ass,its cool.

  • still down as my second favourite movie three years since I first saw it. Kitano has a true ability in direction making him one of the best directors living in the world. Fortunately, considering he likes to act in his own movies, he's also an excellent actor.

Also, the final dance number is incredible and balances the movie excellently. Comedy, thriller, action, intruige and DANCE! Classy.

  • excellent film, and the big dance is inspired, kitano just doesn't give a fuck.

  • ..was a sugoiiiiii mouwiiiiiii

  • Very good and funny scenes...ahahah Only Kitano do that

  • whats up with those ppl tap dancing in ancient japan setting??

  • grrrr i missed this when it was first released here in the states.looks fantastic.

  • It never hit the theaters in my state unfortunately. However, I did grab the DVD when I saw it available and loved the film.

  • one of my fovourite films.

  • ok whats the deal? some of the clips on that trailer are not on my uk dvd. plus was there an old version as some comments hint. plus dont you agree it could have done without the silly 'ewok' style thing at the end.

  • I agree, it spoiled an otherwise excellent movie.

  • i remember watching this trailer every day before the movie came out.
