love the skills but the blade catch makes me think that the edge isn't that sharp...
just saying.. cuz if you get a machete razor sharp.. which is possible.. you won't be able to catch it like that without getting cut and getting 3+ stitches...
@Reallush I know that there is no way to prove this... But it really is sharp. If you look closely at the video, there is no point at which my hand actually comes in to contact with the sharpened edge of the blade. Granted, it's not "razor" sharp (which is a recepie for disaster with a machete). But it was sharpened to the point of being effecctive at cutting small brush; its intended purpose.
@rabidfish02 hehe a razorsharp machete.. yeah that would be really dangerous.. but I actually had something similar ( for bushcutting ) and it was razorsharp.. and lets say... I got a one of a kind fingerprint now ^^
not dissin on ya bro but when you go to catch it ond you have to reach over the blade that is when your makin it easier for someone like me to grab it by the handle. but good tricks i give you props for that
Wow man you should look into doing stunt work for films or some motion captor for videos games I bet you could work with konami in the new metal gear solid rising video game great work :)
very aggressive stance most of the time, making your intimidating factor greater, and a self-learner quite obviously, but I'm afraid a little unoriginal. So intimidating, but unoriginal... you'd need to put a bit more thought into a few really cool tricks for a nice wow factor. Great video though, I really liked the camera shots. the mountain top shot was really great!
very nice indeed overall the footage work isnt all around bad mabye just a little over done. anyway your skill is pretty high up there been meaning to post a video myself although im not sure im quite as as talented as you and im not sure whitch of my knives to use. how long have you been doing this?
That was pretty cool. u just moved the camera around too much with too many effects..srry if this seems like a shitty comment. it was cool lol, i cant do any of that stuff with my machete haha
It's interesting how someone actually feels their opinion matters so much tht they are marking every positive comment thumbs-down here. Some folks just can't get around the fact that they are insignificant. Face it, he's good, it's a good video, get over your envy and TRY to do this. Just... TRY. And when you sever your own hand on a fail, you can come back and tell him again that he sucks at it.
if you ever get any time, you can look at my dads vids (masterfrederick). you might be able to pic a couple moves up from it. but those are some really good moves
Hey, thanks! I have already had some dialogue with your father, he even offered to show me some tricks, which is immensely appreciated! I'm going to blunt one of my cheaper machete's and try to pick up a few of his moves if at all possible.
Good question! No, I have never really tried any behind the back and shoulder throws. The main reason being that all of the machetes that I own are rather sharp. If I had a blunted blade to train with I would probably be able to expand on my bag of tricks quite a bit.
Very impressive spinning skills. As a person that throws knives & tomahawks & does a little fire breathing for a hobby, I would say it really appeals to my reckless nature as well.
BTW I love how all the morons WITHOUT any other skill videos posted come out of the wood work to express their ignorance of handling weapons.
Those comments are on par with walking up to a guy spinning a gun and telling him that won't help you in a gun fight.
I When think that when they're done posting their nonexistent video responses, they need to proceed to the nearest Hibachi restaurant & tell the chef his blade skills are useless in a knife fight too. That might be a better equivalent.
It looks cool, and might be good for arm/wrist development (if done ambidextrously), but...
doing knife tricks in combat is great way to disarm (or de-finger) yourself.
Most opponents will not wait 3 mintues for you to go through a routine, twirling a machete around as you spin and juggle and flip. No, you will get punched in the face, right away-- and, after throwing the machete in the air, thus disarming yourself, it might land blade-first on you after you hit the ground.
Bro, it's called machete tricks, there is nothing combative about this video. In most cultures a Machete is utilized as a tool before a weapon, not the opposite. I have seen much of this first hand. If I posted a video of me fighting people with a machete I would be most likely be in jail right now.
And of COURSE the ego-penis comes out when someone does something for the sake of PERFORMANCE that involves a weapon... Protip, clueless, the guy obviously has training in the filipino fighting arts, or do you not actually SEE the fighting techniques within the dance? Of course you don't, you have no training of your own.
Personally, I thought it was pretty good, except for the overuse of transition effects. I would have enjoyed it more if I could more clearly see him work the steel.
well some of the scenes are nice, but every knife trick video has a lame tehcno song playing in the background, maybe people who do knife tricks like techno idk, the part where you throw the knife and it lands in a stump if u threw it that far and it made it in thats pretty impressive, but when you do that dramatic run to it is pretty corny but ya you should do a cooler video with a theme or something
Im not particularly partial to techno music but my actor and myself felt it worked with the footage. The scene where he throws the knife is a montage of four different shots (different locations) creating the illusion of distance. As for the running scene i felt it was a good break from the tricks and climactic as well for the subsequent dune shot, which I felt was the best shot in the whole video. This video was ultimately experimental, but i like to hear my viewers own conclusions...
hey man not bad, i got a machete, its bigger than that one and sharp as hell, last time i tryed doin that shit i cut myself, i mostly stick to throwing knives and knife tricks...
Let's see you do better... The video is called 'Machete Tricks', hence there is no need to imply that it is being used as a weapon, ...Or that I'm practicing a form of self defence - or martial arts. Please continue to comment in a childish manner; it makes you look tough on the internet.
Hey Matt! This is Cameron, Doug's son. Awesome skills! though, I think you would do much better with a jian or katzbalger than with that sugar cane harvester. Practice make perfect.

I agree. I didn't know you had no formal training until I read this far in the comments. And I am speaking from 24 years experience in the martial arts.
Not useful but develops speed and familiarity with the weapon... In that statement are you declaring that it is not useful to develop speed and familiarity with one's weapon? Because I think that might just be a bit on the handy side myself...
That's still like saying that developing speed and familiarity with a weapon won't help you in a fight. You imply that this is a useless skill, and in the same breath contradict yourself. Perhaps you might wish to actually learn a fighting art before you spout off with self-contradictory bullshit.
Heya, I'm the guy spinning the machetes in the video. I'm really glad that you liked it. Most of what I have found on youtube relating to knife tricks consists of balisong/butterfly knife tricks. You have serious skills! I have a Cold Steel Kukri machete next to me that I don't really use. I wouldn't really feel comfortable whirling it around after I've seen it go halfway through a coconut with just a little force behind it. ;)
Where I come from (El Salvador) people use machetes everyday. Some use it to do work, others to do crime. Go to my country and say emo to anyone carrying a machete...that would probably be your last time calling anyone emo.
not really, that's like saying only emos wear tight pants, whereas you see metros, glamcats, skaters and bmxers wearing them, just to name a few. knife skills aren't really confined to one stereotype or clique, imo.
nice dude... i really like it.. specially the kick up with the log chunk and slice! i have a survival macehete with a rope handle and its not very easy to flip like that handle one... i miss my old handle machete.. it was fun to flip around like that
I got linked to this when i was watching "MMA underground" and you said that you were a "machete martial artist"... so you carry that machete around with you all the time?
How does doing martial arts or machete tricks mean that I have to carry a machete around with me all of the time? I would be in jail pretty quick if that was the case.
Thanks! Though, I can assure you that the machete is sharp... And if you look closely you will see that only my palm and thumb touch the machete. My thumb only comes into contact with the unsharpened / back portion of the knife. Thanks for all of the comments folks!
actually not going to try it, it looks ridiculous. I am an adult and dont intend to be spinning around any kind of machete at anytime. And that honestly would not intimidate me in the least bit at all.
But I cant condemn it all, he has obviously practiced it and it looks fancy.
yeah... and yes it is intimadating.. in the back of your mind... watchin that happen would strike alittle fear in you... basic human instinct... denying it is pretty useless... like i know how a butterfly knife flips... but still watchin someone flip it the exact same way i do makes it look intimidating
well maybe your conscious is weaker than mine, in all honestly something like that would make me laugh and give me a chance to kick that person in the groin
oh well, i dont need to convince you of anything. All i can say is im not some little bitch who is going to be afraid of some guy twirling a machete like a baton.

PwnYouAtSoccer 3 years ago
not really, that's like saying only emos wear tight pants, whereas you see metros, glamcats, skaters and bmxers wearing them, just to name a few. knife skills aren't really confined to one stereotype or clique, imo.

balisongman07 4 years ago
nice dude... i really like it.. specially the kick up with the log chunk and slice! i have a survival macehete with a rope handle and its not very easy to flip like that handle one... i miss my old handle machete.. it was fun to flip around like that

Why have you learned this?
I got linked to this when i was watching "MMA underground" and you said that you were a "machete martial artist"... so you carry that machete around with you all the time?
LegendOfBJJ 4 years ago
How does doing martial arts or machete tricks mean that I have to carry a machete around with me all of the time? I would be in jail pretty quick if that was the case.

Thanks! Though, I can assure you that the machete is sharp... And if you look closely you will see that only my palm and thumb touch the machete. My thumb only comes into contact with the unsharpened / back portion of the knife. Thanks for all of the comments folks!

soooo what good does all that spinning do/
mononokifool 4 years ago
great for intimadation.. like my butterfly knives... and its alot of fun to do... try it sometime and you'll see for yourself
balisongman07 4 years ago
actually not going to try it, it looks ridiculous. I am an adult and dont intend to be spinning around any kind of machete at anytime. And that honestly would not intimidate me in the least bit at all.
But I cant condemn it all, he has obviously practiced it and it looks fancy.
mononokifool 4 years ago
yeah... and yes it is intimadating.. in the back of your mind... watchin that happen would strike alittle fear in you... basic human instinct... denying it is pretty useless... like i know how a butterfly knife flips... but still watchin someone flip it the exact same way i do makes it look intimidating
balisongman07 4 years ago
Change your mind much? heh.
rabidfish02 4 years ago
well maybe your conscious is weaker than mine, in all honestly something like that would make me laugh and give me a chance to kick that person in the groin
mononokifool 4 years ago
wow... you really are dumb enough to convince someone of that... i would love to see it sometime
balisongman07 4 years ago
what the hell are you talking about
mononokifool 4 years ago
im sayin id loved to see you laugh at a guy flinging a machete around and kick him in the groin since you love to think you wouldnt be intimidated
balisongman07 4 years ago 3
oh well, i dont need to convince you of anything. All i can say is im not some little bitch who is going to be afraid of some guy twirling a machete like a baton.
mononokifool 4 years ago
yeah.... you would
