This guy Waylon is a complete idiot, and his online website/magazine reflects that.
1. He doesn't ask Steph Davis a single question, as if she is just Dean Potter's wife and only up on the stage as a courtesy. Anyone who knows about Dean and Steph knows that they are both once-in-a-generation people, sort of like real life Jedi. For this idiot to completely ignore her is pathetic.
2. As everyone else noted, his questions to Dean are STOOOPID. This guy is a total putz, as is elephantjournal.
Waylon Lewis you should be ashamed of yourself! You are the worst excuse for a journalist I have ever seen in my life. Asking Dean Potter "what is a slack line" is like asking Michael Jordan what is a 'slam dunk'? You stupid idiot.
Interesting video--and that's partly because the interview doesn't have as much background and asks like most non-climbers friends might. (At least he tried by reading some articles, is willing to do it by sitting in front of an audience like that...)
It's much more interesting when someone's not up there praising them for "how awesome all you do etc etc" all the time.
I think, it says a lot about how we think and chose to live.
@swimana Wrong. This idiot interviewer does nothing but suck up from the word go.... he alternates between being horribly condescending to idiotically pandering....all while exhibiting a complete laziness in not learning a single thing about these TWO remarkable people he had the good fortune to have sitting in front of him. Also? He COMPLETELY IGNORES STEPH DAVIS during the "questioning" and she is an extraordinarily articulate person whose accomplishments are as remarkable as Dean's. Dumbass
worst interview i have ever seen, there are its fucking dean potter one of the most interesting people alive and this douche couldnt string out a coherent 5 minutes
points to dean and steph for not getting pissed at the guy. if i was dean i would've snapped. at least research the topic before conducting an interview.
@wilsocn You are an idiot, and obviously you don't know many climbers. Climbers (waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more than "90%", come from all walks of life....) are not "all hippies".
waylon dude. you have no idea about the philosophy of this. Dean is totaly right. Facing the death is the best way to feel alive. And this is not just pure gambling, your life depends on your hands. They are not randomly going and climbing the mountains. They are praciticing it all their life. They are not doing something they can't do. And keeping a little bit dangerous doesn't mean they have the death wish. It is 180 degree opposite of that.
When you challenge death and achieve it finally, you have one of the most breath taking experience in your entire life and you will never forget it. Facing and challenging death is the best way to get rid of the noise in your mind and the stupidness of the society and the daily routines. After all you are meshing with nature while doing this. Just look at these guys how smilie, sweet and relaxed they are.
This guy interviewing completely sucks! He needs to get back to his telemarketing day job. Sorry that such great people like Dean and Steph had to akwardly sit across from this guy and suffer for so long.
That was the worst and most unprofessional interview I've ever seen. This guy Waylon doesnt have the first idea about climbing, let alone the fact that he's interviewing two of the worlds best.
Stop picking on me you big nasty climbers or I'll have to...oh, wait, you're anonymous. BTW I may be the biggest idiot, moron, stupid, lame, 'aweful,' the worst, a complete tool, but I am not a c*nt, usually.
The interviewer!!!!!

this is ridiculous - such an interesting couple of people, world class athletes, and this interviewer just seems to have no concept of this.
