IM DEMINT IS AN ASSHOLE. Why don't he pretend as one of the TSA employee and see really what going on inside TSA. Qualified employees being replace by new one almost day to day basis. Low morale. Unfair treatment from the chain of command. I been in the U.S Army for 14 years and that also include my deployment to the war zone at Iraq. Being in TSA is more morale draining that I am prepared to go back to the war zone in Iraq or Afghanistan but was told that I am too old to enlist back.
@PNOYPWR just curious are you still in the tsa , and how do you fell about the new stuff that is going on in the past month with the scanners and enhanced pat downs?
@ERICLEEPARKER: Pat downs is uncomfortable scenario for us. As for the scanners: I was selected twice in my out of the country vacation and ended up with small dry patches on my skin. I would not prepare to go on that experience again. I am retiring from TSA because I did a military buy back meaning that I already had 22 years of military service.
No one should be able to prevent other people from bargaining with their employer, nor should they be able to prevent people from getting a job without paying a union.
Thank God, Senator Demint has the courage and foresight to stand up against this attempt to unionize our airport screeners. We have enough problems already without having to go into collective bargaining every time we need to change methods or add new procedures, or worry about protracted negotiations with union bosses in order to get rid of ineffective workers.
Police Officers and Fire Fighters are unionized....
Companies biding for these TSA contracts don't want unions... so DeMint won't let unions happen...
If he needs a police officer or a fire fighter or paramedic in a hurry... he won't ask if they have a union card... he will just be damn glad he's good at his job and the union that made sure they had to training to save his life.....
@pasnell You were not aware that airport security screeners, by law, are prohibited from being unionized because of the concern that quick reaction and ever changing methods are not conducive to collective bargaining? This is not like a police force or fire station.
If this premise was true -- Why is he holding up the appointment if they 'cannot organize into unions?
And the second part of your premise is that unions prevent quick reaction.... Our SWAT teams (who are unionize) respond faster than the feds or the military (I have worked in the military--I know how slow they are). You can say what you want....but the facts remain.... Unions have nothing to do with it.
First, obviously he is holding up the confirmation until the nominee will state that he intends to abide by the law and not introduce legislation to change it. Second, interests of government employee unions are fundamentally opposed to the interests of taxpayers. The unions are serving their own members, while the government officials who oversee them are serving the public, which usually means delivering the most efficient service at the lowest possible cost.
Senetor, Please Research the Testimony of Kurt Haskell, and make sure to mention it in interviews as it is being whitewashed.
This is important testimony and deserves it's limelight. And please, push for release of the security surveillance of the Underwear bomber getting through security. From Haskell's testimony, He mentions that a "Sharp Dressed man" Escorted the Bomber through security, even without showing any form of a Passport.
