I just moved to Jacksonville, FL from Cleveland, OH and have no idea what you people are talking about. Jacksonville so far has been a prime location for a great night life, warm weather, friendly people, beautiful beaches and short distance to interesting places like Saint Augustine, Daytona and Orlando. Try going to some rough cities in the midwest like Cleveland, Detroit, Toledo, Gary or even Chicago and you will see its really not so bad. The key is to avoid the rough part of town.

I totally love Riverside, lived there for many years. But when I left it had become a cess pool of crime.....a shootout on our street once, car breakins almost every week, rapes, you name it. I left in 1995, moved to the seattle area.

wow. I live in southside. and its pretty bad here too. I just moved here from pensacola fl.. and honsetly i want to get the hell out of here. the crime is bad, and traffic is just as bad. its probably not a good place for me and my 6 month old. "easy targets" since the hubby is in navy.

Jacksonville is pretty amazing.
Yeah they have high crime rates but it all depends on the area you live in.
And the reason why crime got worse when they built the Dames Point is because that leads to the north side which is the worst side in the city.
I live in Regency. And personally I think it's the best.
I've lived all over the US and I think Jacksonville is the best.
I wouldn't change it for anything.

This is the dumbest comment I've read all day long. If the person who wrote this knew anything at all, they would know that the Dames Point is not the gateway to the northside. The people who committ the crimes didn't wait for the Dames Point to open up just so they could spread the love. And for the record, the Dames Point Bridge connects the south side to the northeast side of JAX, which is Oceanside, which is not a high crime area. Please get your facts straight.

You can also go through downtown or take the ferry or something.
There are other ways to get there obviously.
Most of the polls I have read say that the northside is the worst.
Personally I could care less which side is the worst, I think they are all about equal.

As a member of the jacksonville sheriffs office, all sides of town mandarin, deerwood, baymeadows every last one of them see there fair share of crime on a daily basis. The media just doent show all of that on it. Not every murder, high speed pursuit, or crime makes the news. moist of this happens when you guys are sleeping and stuff and me and my K9 are up protecting yall. the truth is if ppl werent scared to talk instead of this "no snitch" policy alot of crimes and stuff would be solved.

I just moved to Jacksonville, FL from Cleveland, OH and have no idea what you people are talking about. Jacksonville so far has been a prime location for a great night life, warm weather, friendly people, beautiful beaches and short distance to interesting places like Saint Augustine, Daytona and Orlando. Try going to some rough cities in the midwest like Cleveland, Detroit, Toledo, Gary or even Chicago and you will see its really not so bad. The key is to avoid the rough part of town.

I know there's crime everywhere. In some places though, the crime rate is higher than in other places. All I'm saying is that Jacksonville can do better in law enforcement. I don't watch the local news or read the local paper because every day it's the same nonsense. "Man shot on the westside" When crime happens in the same areas frequently, law enforcement needs to be raised there. I also think there needs a better transit system in this city but that's another discussion. ;)

Jacksonville is a bomb city but the sad thing is the murder rate which is on the rise and thats sad. about 90% of the murders are about the dope game. I hope they get that under control because it's a great city if only cats will chill with the crime.
