We did that at school, however to make it more interesting we added red food colouring and some small rocks to make it actually look like lava.

Yes, but of course I always keep a bottle of Hydrogen Peroxide just in case I feel like making a volcano. I mean, who doesn't? It's not like they don't sell it in the store or anything.

the yeast is bacteria and the hydrogen peroxide is designed to kill said bacteria. So upon mixture the peroxide rapidly decomposes and leaves behind a foam which cannot be contained in such a small cone like the cardboard one. So it flows outwards causing the "eruption"

The hydrogen peroxide is a catalyst, and yeast expands but very slowly. So if you mix the two, it makes the process much faster and vola!

hey i wonder what would happen if you mixed hydrogen peroxide and vinegar in one glass then put the cone over it then in another glass mixed baking soda and yeast then pour the baking soda/yeast mixture into the vinegar/peroxide mixture, hmm could make for the ultimate volcano!!
