Has anybody considered that Cloverfield refers to the Native American Clovis culture that mysteriously disappearched around 13,000 BC, from what appears to be a meteor landing near lake Ontario? The idea of a civilization coming to an abrupt end, the name Cloverfield, and the history of the Clovis culture suggest to me and it's how I thought the title, I assumed it was a reference to the Clovis culture before I saw the movie.

Wow I am surprised that someone has finally spoken out on behalf of the classic. When a lot of people think about Godzilla they are familiar with the more mainstream films, however if they watch the old black in white classic they too will see the similarities. Both very interesting and brilliant films. However I do believe that there may be more symbolism in Clover than many originally think. Therefore I loved it.

I don't know. The monster in "Cloverfield" was pretty rough, but the Godzilla interpreted in the 1998 make was pretty badass. The monster in "Cloverfield" wasn't too fast, it was just really big and really strong. The Godzilla from the 1998 movie was really strong, really big, really fast, and really smart. Not to mention it was agile and it could dispense fire. I didn't like the '98 version too much, but the Godzilla they did was fucking amazing.

The monster in Cloverfield, is WAY different than GODZILLA!!!! I think that the monster is creepier than Godzilla becuz of the way it looks, and it did kind-of remind me of Godzilla but at the same time, it didn't.

but the name stuck so they decidded to keep the name.

Wow I am surprised that someone has finally spoken out on behalf of the classic. When a lot of people think about Godzilla they are familiar with the more mainstream films, however if they watch the old black in white classic they too will see the similarities. Both very interesting and brilliant films. However I do believe that there may be more symbolism in Clover than many originally think. Therefore I loved it.

No, this is a TOTALLY UNIQUE... thing. Can't even describe it. Doesn't really even look like anything in the REAL world or fiction.
Also, to suggest that this movie is the same as Godzilla because it has a creature tearing up buildings and people running away from said creature is like saying all war movies are the same because they have people fighting and dying.

it's definitely not godzilla...and as far as what can be said about what it really is, well, you can't. Abrams hasn't disclosed any info on what the monster is and I like that. If he, or anyone else explains it, then it loses the hype that it had.

I don't know. The monster in "Cloverfield" was pretty rough, but the Godzilla interpreted in the 1998 make was pretty badass. The monster in "Cloverfield" wasn't too fast, it was just really big and really strong. The Godzilla from the 1998 movie was really strong, really big, really fast, and really smart. Not to mention it was agile and it could dispense fire. I didn't like the '98 version too much, but the Godzilla they did was fucking amazing.

Haha I love how everyone thought that this was another Godzilla movie xD. J.J Abrams said it himself at the '07 Comic Con that he wanted to make a new monster movie. I know because I was there. The monster is nothing like the pictures floating around on the web, and I'm glad that it wasn't because they mostly looked like giant whales and oversized Davy Jones'

it came from the waters, people, thats why it was in manhatten, there's three or two monsters.1)it was the squid-like one when the people first headed into the subway. 2)then the one that bites and kills the camera guy, now i think there was another one, it looks like a dinosaur, it has a tail, and since the one the ate half of the camera guy didnt have a tail, and the spider things werent falling off of it, and the squid was also seen in the news when the were in the store, so yea
