The U.S. ranks 13th on quality of life rankings. A country like ours with such potential, so much resources/money, and so much ingenuity should not be ranked behind countries like Singapore. Instead of focusing so many resources on our political posturings, consolidating military power, and dictating how other countries should live their lives, we should focus on improving the lives of our great citizens. We are also the 18th most democratic country in the world. These stats need to change.
You talk about strong and weak nations, but what, in the end is our goal as a nation. To impose our will on less powerful countries we disagree with? To have military power and the capability to destroy the rest of the world? To me, it seems like a governments duty is to give its citizens the best possible quality of life. The U.S. ranks 13th on quality of life rankings. A country like ours with such potential, so much resources/money, and so much ingenuity should not be ranked behind countries like Singapore. Instead of focusing so many resources on our political posturings, consolidating military power, and dictating how other countries should live their lives, we should focus on improving the lives of our great citizens. We are also the 18th most democratic country in the world. These stats need to change.

You talk about strong and weak nations, but what, in the end is our goal as a nation. To impose our will on less powerful countries we disagree with? To have military power and the capability to destroy the rest of the world? To me, it seems like a governments duty is to give its citizens the best possible quality of life. This is not done by invading other nations, giving ourselves a need to gain vast military power. This is done by maintaining diplomatic relations with the rest of the world.

We wouldn't have to be dealing with this terrorism and atrocious acts on innocent lives if we wouldn't have exhibited such an intrusive international relations strategy throughout the years, justified by propaganda, religion, and a false entitlement as the elite country in the world whose duty it is to police the world. Our unnecessary interference in countries like Chile, Iran, Vietnam, Nicaragua, Iraq, etc, in the name of consolidation of power, money, etc cause these nations to harbor hatred.

The intense nationalism I see commented here is a poisonous, elitist ideology that promotes hate, separation, and conflict. This way of thinking that the U.S. is the greatest country in the world and that we have the right to invade other countries and dictate how we live their lives causes the unnecessary deaths of millions, all for the goal of power and control. I see these comments about our enemies like Iran, but who sold them weapons? Ronald Reagan. A selfish hypocrite. Do your research.

@smarterthanyoubro if Iran and the middle-east don't stop creating war and hate, we cannot stop either, or else the 3000000 people of this great nation will no longer be able to enjoy their rights. if you don't think America is a great nation for letting you own a gun, letting you practice a religion of your liking, or even criticize it like you are at this very moment, you do not deserve to be defended by the men who are keeping Iranians and other enemies at bay from hurting you or your family.

@Jberg And how do you think Iran got the weapons to threaten us in the first place? Your boy Ronald sold them to them. America is a great nation, I'm not disagreeing there. Our foreign policy puts ourselves in the position as enemies to many countries. Iran would not be wanting to destroy us if we hadn't continuously interfered with there domestic affairs. There would be no need to be protected from our "enemies" if we hadn't given them reason to destroy us. What would you do if you were them?

@smarterthan depends, unfortunatly here, obama is an idiot because he believes in the ideology of appesement, where when reagan wanted to go in and fight, the obama adminsitration tries to make relations, which is one of the reasons why Iran, is so fearless against the strongest military power in the world, (the US) because they know we will not use it against them, that is why they just went in the UN to insult us, and why they insult us every chance they get.

@smarterthan depends, unfortunatly we have a coward in office, and he keeps trying to make relations with iran, when iran has clearly stated that they do now want to make relations with the US, obama continues, the only reason why iran is so fearless against the United states,(ie, insulting us every chance they get )(ie. insulting us infront of the UN counsil) is because their president knows that Obama is too much of a coward to send in one of the the strongest military powers in the world.

I watch this speech and it makes me choke with pride. We were truly blessed to have such a great man to leave our country. He stood firm in the belief that the US is the greatest nation on earth. If only we could find another like him, we could certainly use one now.

The world needs a man like this, someone who could fight, who knew well what had to be done to ensure our survival, now we have Obama, a weak willed fool, whom because of the colour of his skin became invulnerable.
Obama is not the man for the job, he went insane when a minor pastor with a congregation of about fifty threatened to burn a few books, ink and paper.
But when muslims plan what is clearly a victory mosque, an insult to your dead victims of 9/11, he is silent? god bless the west.

inspirational but where do you draw the line in Russia some politician rallied his people with a similar speech the same in Japan if you refuse to fight if you refuse to build up a threatening force how can another nation rally their people against you Switzerland keeps neutral. I don't consider them a weak nation.Hate does not resolve hate only love resolves hate. Violence begets violence you may win a fight but once this process starts you are likely to spend the rest of your life fighting.

@JuanmaCadavidBenitez I consider Switzerland to be a weak nation. Does any world leader say "I would like to do this, but what will the Swiss say?" Has anybody ever done that? Nobody cares about them, unless it has to do with hiding income in a bank. They are able to sit astride the world like a colossus because of the efforts and expenditures of other nations like the US and Britain. Not everybody has mountains to hide behind. Try loving somebody while he shoots a machine gun at you.

@Scotish223332 Communist or not the purge of journalists who dare speak against russian government, the guiding the polish airplane into the ground, the death of defectors even in the suburbs of Washington, shows the russian bear is very much alive and dangerous today.
