  • The video truly proves beyond the shadow of a doubt that there was "bad" stuff going on in the "good ole' days" too.

  • Thank you ,I'm a big fan of R.N. A real liberated women who is and was a head of her time.I wish more people were like her this planet might be a little more interesting .

  • on the turn at 0.24 was a large all night eatery called THE HASTY TASTY(gone now). IN 1962 IT WAS FULL OF INSANE, LOVABLE characters ----these days theres only THE NEW YORKER.......but less characters

  • Never trust a person happy to pay twice the callous rent as yourself - wait that cuts out 80% of the (urbanised) population!Everyones going under!

I reckon kings x would be seen alot differently if it kept to 30-50 per dorm room-3 floors high.("paddo"mansions used to be like mathew talbot living)Just think of that -10 000 people in one mile living 30 to a room with all the perks of the forgotten generation!Ankles slashed for free!Jumped in showers!Owner of hostel patting your knee!don'ttrytogo!

  • Thanks for posting, great footage. What a shame they got rid of all the billboards and beautiful old buildings..

  • anyone got shots of THE HUNGRY EYE coffee shop in 1968 Liverpool street ?? it was a third hippies ,a third lesbians and a third crims--was later turned into a korean restaurant---across the road was the DRY RED furniture store ( for buying dope.)

  • Don't you love this stuff, if only you could go back. The narrater sounds like Brian Henderson to me. Does anyone know of a video of the domain speaker John Webster? I guess in forty years time someone will be commenting on the chk chk boom girl.

  • John Webster: I think I only saw only 1 video of him on Bill Peach's ABC This Day Tonight. He was (he may still be alive; doubtful) a London Irishman and used to flog his printed rant to supplement his income between bouts of inane demagoguery. When not speaking at the Domain on Sundays; he'd make frequent appearances at 'Question Time' forums at Ted Noff's Wayside Chapel. I found him tiresome & preferred more dynamic speakers like Bill Dwyer the Anarchist. I heard Webster moved down to Tassie.

  • Love the clip about the infamous Cross. Is it true it was called Queens Cross before?

  • I have never heard of the Cross being referd to as The Queens Cross. It wouldn't have been existed in Victoria's time. It was probably name in honour of King George V.

  • @ozweblogs Yes it was Queen's Cross

  • I love how this clip is "3:33" minutes long. Perfect.

  • A true individual, its great to see this footage.

  • "Where life comes out of an espresso machine, and you can have it any way you like it" :-))

  • This is superb footage ... a fantastic timepiece. I also reckon it might be John Laws narrating (sure sounds like a younger version of him). Thanks so much for posting this - Jim

  • Thanks for this. I have read the book Pan's Daughter the biography of Rosaleen Norton, but I didn't know their were any clips or anything of her. And wow! Thanks so much for posting this. Even though it was like a two minute video! I loved to see Rosaleen in it. Showing how unique and strong she felt about witchcraft!

  • Does anyone else notice the old woman at 1:39 giving young modern looking young man in a shap suit and haircut the once over. Hilarious. Great doco, can anyone tell me what year this is from?

  • from what documentary is this footage taken? i would love to see more footage (if there is any available) of Rosaleen Norton.

  • Selling each other salami? Does anyone know exactly what that means. The narration for this is awesome. Blessings +++ The Saint +++

  • I guess you had to be there - I remember there were a couple of deli's on the main drag amongst the coffee shops on the way to the bowling alley (?) - Does anyone remember "Breakfast at Sweethearts" about the 24 hour coffee lounge Sweethearts? My hubby (Ozweblogs) remembers they drilled holes in the teaspoons to stop the druggies from pinching them!

    MyCatLuna

  • I think it was just before my time. The only 24 hour coffee shop I know of now other than Mc Donalds is Deans Cafe. I think we really lost diversuality in our rich Bohemia that we used to have. Blessings +++ The Saint +++

  • I had breaky at Sweethearts once, on the same day as the Backpackers fire. Later that day some dealer got shot in the toilet of Sweethearts!

  • @ozweblogs True .. they did this with the spoons. Breakfast at Sweethearts if I recall was near Liverpool St.

The deli you refer to was Dunbar's on the corner Bayswater and Darlinghurst Roads. It is now a huge take-a-way

  • @saintfletcher

I love these reportages from that times. Reminds me of KurfuerstenDamm in the early 60s.

Ppl were much more original and individual at that times. And: it was not a mistake NOT to look like a model and to wear cheap clothes etc....

In opposite: it was a sign of independence and intellectuality not to be part of the mainstream.

But everything only in the big cities.

GREAT film of GREAT times !

  • @saintfletcher Not what you're thinking; Salami Selling is the name for the technique where small amounts of money are fraudulently diverted from a large number of accounts and their departure goes unnoticed.

  • 5☆'s

  • Brilliant. 5* Blessings +++ The Saint +++

  • Some Awesome archival film on Kings King. 5* and Fav on AussieKingsXTonite
