It is supossed that every album has its "story" behind. Gorillaz, ie, is about the success of a new underground band. Demon Days is about the price Murdoc paid for that success, which is said to be a pact with the Devil. Plastic Beach is supossed to be the reunion of the separeted band after Demon Days.

As for The Fall, I think is a 2D's solo project, as all instruments are sintetized, that he may had been work after DD and before PB.
