Thank you for this my Dad has this pistol dated to the 1903 production year as well as military markings. I love this little gun and it's very accurate.
I assume all that stipling and checkering was a custom order? If so then it's funny that someone would specifically order all that work, which presumably cost a pretty penny, and yet stick to the basic hard rubber grips.
That's amazing, the amount of hand checkering, and stippling that was put into the pistol from the factory. The bluing really held up through the years.
Who was the primary type of customer, for the Colt 1903 Hammerless, back in 1904?
Do you know for a fact that those pistols were made only in 04-05? The reason I ask is becuase my local gun store is selling 2 of them. And they claim one was made in 1921. Please let me know and if you have a link that would be nice. Thanks and great video.
@MrAk47master I have one from 1938 but it is a Type IV (if I recall). MrColt45acpt covers the versions in another vid... I think this is a Type I which is probably the 1904-1905 time frame. This link has a quick and dirty time table someone put together...google 1903 Colt Model M and your top selection from unblinkingeye has a table you might be able to use as a reference.
@MrAk47master Hi, the pistol that is featured in this video was made in the time period of 1904 to 1905. Approximately 567,000 were made from 1903 - 1945. Thanks for watching!
If that handle was just a little bigger it would make a really nice carry gun. Interal safety, melted lines, hammerless, strong checkering, but it could be in something bigger than .32 and have a better mag release. Wow amazing stippling! Thanks for the video!
That is really impressive. I couldn't imagine doing that hand-checkering ALL day long. I'd go cross-eyed! Thanks for revisiting some of the pistols. The camera work impresses more each time I see how well it shows the detail. That was a great investment!

My model 1903 Colt pocket hammerless is only 165 units later than this one in your video. How cool is that? Mine has no checkering or stippling.

Cheaperthandirt has the FIOCCHI 73 grain FMJ .32 ammo that everyone talks about for about $11 for a 50 round box

Normally I tell you to safety check but in your case you either have enough money to buy the guns OR the ammo NOT both

It seems, that it was aimed at gun connoiseurs.

Probably a stupid question, but were these older guns made with mild steel?

Sorry I doubted you, MrColt45acp. Thanks again for yet another excellent video. Can't imagine the mind numbing tedium of doing all that by hand.

back in the day when labour was cheap. I assume there's a factory letter stating it came from the factory like that?
What was the going rate for one of those when it was new?
