The live version was better but I liked this too. Actually with Adam ALL his live versions are better than his recordings. I still bump him on my ipod like crazy but there is always a longing for one of the live versions over what I got. RCA better compile his live recordings and make a mint and stop playing.

You can see the criteria they used....and educate yourself. Zep is great, but so is Adam and if Zep didn't think so they wouldn't have granted the permission for the cover.

If you want to get high and listen to music, then listen to Plant. If you want to listen to a voice that can get you high without drugs, then listen to Adam.

You can't compare Lambert to Plant. Lambert might have a great technical voice but Plant has something that Lambert does not. It's called soul. It's the difference between one of the greatest songs of all time and a good karaoke imitation.

I never said that how long you've been in the industry shows how good an artist someone is. I said that Robert Plant and Led Zeppelin kind of started classic and modern rock. Sure, the Beatles revolutionized music before them, but Plant could sing jazz, smooth rock, hard rock, and even some metal songs. He changed the way the music industry worked and changed from a choice between pop, jazz, and classical to rock, hard rock, grunge, pop, jazz, classical. You know what I mean?
OH, ok. So Lambert should successfully start a new genre, revolutionize music, change the way the industry works, all in less than one year and under contract from freaking American Idol. In fact, on the original record of this song, right before the fade out, you can hear Plant wail a G5. The highest note Adam hits here is a E5, which is 4 notes lower on the chromatic scale. Also, Plant has wailed up to A5, another 2 notes higher. For Adam, he seems to have perfect control over his range here, I bet they are about eqaul in range.

Point is, PERSONALLY, i think Adam should orientate more on good rock music. Dont getme wrong here there are songs that are actually very good on his cd. You can't compare Lambert to Plant. Lambert might have a great technical voice but Plant has something that Lambert does not. It's called soul. It's the difference between one of the greatest songs of all time and a good karaoke imitation.

I agree that Adam has an amazing, powerful, wide-ranged voice and some very theatrical presence.
But to compare it to Robert Plant is a completely different story. Plant is a historical music icon who revolutionized the rock genre forever. Adam is a great singer.

I never said that how long you've been in the industry shows how good an artist someone is. I said that Robert Plant and Led Zeppelin kind of started classic and modern rock. Sure, the Beatles revolutionized music before them, but Plant could sing jazz, smooth rock, hard rock, and even some metal songs. He changed the way the music industry worked and changed from a choice between pop, jazz, and classical to rock, hard rock, grunge, pop, jazz, classical. You know what I mean?

@mortred009 While I have never listened that much to Lambert, I can tell you that Plant has sung notes considerably higher than the ones Adam did here. In fact, on the original record of this song, right before the fade out, you can hear Plant wail a G5. The highest note Adam hits here is a E5, which is 4 notes lower on the chromatic scale. Also, Plant has wailed up to A5, another 2 notes higher. For Adam, he seems to have perfect control over his range here, I bet they are about eqaul in range.

I like the version he did live. This one, as much as I want to like it, is horrible. Not that he has a bad voice, but this is way too processed and poppy to be a cover of a Zeppelin song. At least the live version was pretty raw.
But I look forward to some Adam Lambert originals in November. They are sure to rock! :)

He never intended to try to supercede Zeppelin's work. He admires Zeppelin for what they are, and did tribute to them with this work. And, be it known, this was NOT written by Zeppelin or any member therein, but by Willie Dixon, a dear friend of the band's. When they left their label to start their own they helped Willie legally to make sure he got his due.
