I personally prefer the original cutscene, not only did this one kinda introduce Liquid too early, i just cant take it seriously. Shadow Moses had such a serious tone in the original MGS1 but here i never felt it..
The hokey melodramatic style of Metal Gear is really what keeps it unique from similar games. Splinter Cell and Syphon Filter fans would scoff at things like voice actors explaining controls, people peeing themselves and guards with diarrhea. If you can't make room for the main villain showing up for a couple seconds in the beginning, then I have to wonder how you came to like it in the first place.
Come to think of it, I think you see him in the original intro anyways.
@OfficialJab They did show him in the original intro but they didn't blatantly give him away (which they basically did here). It took until the torture room scene for people to find out he was Snake's brother in the original game and he was shrouded in mystery until then, here they basically give it away.
If by 'blatant' you're referring to the fact that characters have textured faces now, then I guess you'd have me there, but both games reveal the name Liquid Snake as the FOXHOUND leader, and reveal him in appearance and voice on the helipad in the beginning.
Are you sure that already knowing the outcome going in didn't change your perception? A couple dramatic camera angles don't really spoil anything, and I don't think there are any new scenes with Liquid...
Guys, let's face it. Music, cutscenes, even some of the voice acting was way better in the remake. Sure, the original one was a classic and it's awesome as hell, but you need to give Twin Snakes a chance. There's no reason for you to bash Twin Snakes.
@Ellisthemechanic The Music wasn't better, the cutscenes really were over-the-top, the voice acting lacked the subtlety and delivery of the original (although I do like what they did to Mei Ling's voice) and the gameplay mechanics weren't different from the Playstation version, which is a bad thing as it demonstrated how Metal Gear is just not made for Nintendo. The graphics and this opening are the only things that are 'better' and the former could have been much better.
@MrLunitunz And that's number 1 thing you guys complain about. Most of the voice acting was better in the original, sure, but some of it was better in the remake. That's just my opinion. And about the cutscenes, it's a fucking remake. What did you expect? The music was better as it's more intense than the original.
@Ellisthemechanic The music is more generic. The original soundtrack created the requisite intensity and was also very memorable, 'Encounter' is easily the most identifiable of the MGS music. As for the cutscenes, you can be more cinematic without being over-the-top, every Hideo Kojima directed MGS from 2 onwards proves that. This one was like The Matrix on crack! I'm not saying it's bad game, it's better than a lot of games, but the original for all its antiquity was the better game.
@MrLunitunz I can see where you are getting at. I can admit that the cutscenes were overdone. I agree with your statement that Twin Snakes and MGS1 are way better than a lot of games. And I do agree with you with the original music, even though I prefer the remade version. Encounter and especially Duel were my personal favorites.
@Ellisthemechanic Twin Snakes does, in some ways, provide better continuity for the rest of the series. For example, the accent changes and the gameplay mechanics. If someone were to go into Metal Gear Solid through this game like I did, he'd have an easier time making that transition from MGS: TTS to MGS2. Not all of the cutscenes are over-staged, this one for example. In that sense, it's not a bad remake either. It's just that they didn't think enough about what made the original great.
@MrLunitunz I can also admit they screwed some things up in the remake too. Such as the voice acting. I think some of it was better in the remake, but most of it like 96% of it was better in the original. Such as Johnny's voice. He sounds more angry and more serious in the originall. In TS, he sounds like a goof. Otacon sounds like a wimp in TS and Ocelot sounds too forced in TS. Same for Snake with a few exceptions. Naomi, I'm not too sure since her voice fitted her well in Metal Gear Solid 4.
@Ellisthemechanic I liked Naomi's pseudo-English accent, in the original. Snake was too growly, too much like an exaggerated Clint Eastwood, when David Hayter did his voice the first time it had a smoothness to it. And yeah, Ocelot. But Liquid may have been a bit better, I liked Cam Clarke's new delivery of 'You enjoy all the killing, that's why'. It was too non-chalant in the original. Also, what kinda sucks is they didn't do any Japanese recording for Twin Snakes.
@knuxie People who hate twin snakes but love mgs1 are hypocrites. This game added to the original (bar some things like naomi's accent etc...) and helped tie it in with the rest of the mgs series.
Ya know, I really do wish there was one. The best I can do is call it "Elevator Scene", but my guess is that this song's a techno remix of the elevator music in the original MGS.
I know It didn't really get HD, but still a good video. I don't know if tis game is overrated as much as it is rare. I have seen a physical copy of this game, which is sad, because I really want it.
Why didn't this make it into the MGS HD Collection? Seriously this is my first and still favorite MGS game

@Ellisthemechanic You forgot Mei Ling.In the original she sounded like she was from China and spoke English as a second language.

@Johnnybomb1 I think that Mei-Ling's Twin Snakes voice was good, but I prefer her original voice.

You're damn right, but you know what's even more underrated? This fucking awesome opening! It's so hard to find on Youtube, thank you so much!

Definitely my favorite scene in the game as well. It really is under-rated. (the purests of the original seem to hate it with a passion.)
The music just adds so much tension. The last 20 seconds to the song always makes me shudder. So awesome. <3
I wish there was an mp3 of this scene without the soundeffects too... but I can't find anything.
