How do "viewers" expect every single guru to do completely different looks when there are thousands of "guru's" making videos, of course there's going to be some overlap, if you like one person's look better, go watch that video and skip leaving a hateful comment.

The thing is, the you tubers who get featured over and over and over must be good enough to be featured, and well done them. Those of us who do make videos that don't get featured, it's nothing personal. It's like being a real life celebrity. Every actor can't be famous, and there's no need to be sour about it. Making a video complaining about it isn't going to get you featured or anything like that. Keep doing what you're doing and it will eventually work out.

I personally subscribe to those that I really like and that have resonated with me whether it be for a certain look, their talent, there way of being or personality, etc. I don't pick gurus based on how many subscribers they may have or how popluar they are. All the points you mention in this video are the reason why I don't want to post a video on youtube. I have taken MANY tutorial looks and changed them because my eyes are a different color or I didn't have the same color/ shade used in the look. People need to get off what ever high horse they are sitting on and realize people have talent- pro or not, guy or girl, or because of whatever it is that causes the need to be rude. But I love your tutorials and mine would be the sameway witha kid in it

Sadly enough there is so much talent on youtube that is yet to be found by many people while girls with no real skill or talent that blows you off are becoming increasingly popular...

I am an Italian girl, I work in the ICT field and I have a passion for make up. Thanks for this video, you made me think a lot about the difference between a TV channel and a Youtube channel. I agree with basically everything you said and I must confess that (I guess only twice..!) I left comments like this "great look, however I don't like lashes". I honestly did not mean to be annoying or rude, it was just an honest opinion/suggestion, only because it's interactive youtube and not boring TV.
I have to say that I subscribed because of this video! I liked the makeup and I have watched many others on youtube and was actually quite annoyed by the attitudes of some of the other gurus who showed footage from IMATS. I really do not like people who act like they are better than someone based on superficial attributes and some of the gurus acted like this. I loved how you were so blunt, but very wise in your opinion.

A young girl put up a video of herself singing and was immediately bashed by ignorant and hateful individuals and I could think of nothing other than helping her. I am a makeup artist of 5 years now and I watch YT religiously. I often feel the urge to hop on and share what I know and have loads of fun making videos too...but it is exactly this kind of shit that has kept me from pursuing this. You are such a brilliant person and I THANK YOU for having the gonads to speak up against ignorant bullshit! I'll keep watching and maybe I'll sometime develop the gonads to say "fuck off" and have some fun myself!

Thank you! I have noticed this and I am glad you are saying something about it. Every guru has something unique to show us and no one is exactly the same. The best way that i have found to learn makeup is to try and recreate someone else's look. There is nothing wrong with that! If no one could use the same color combinations or styles then pretty soon no one could wear makeup period...

I totally agree with some people being sheep, just because someone has thousands of subbies does not mean they are good. I like Michelle for her presentation and I admire Lauren Luke for making her dream come true but I think there has been more hype than raw talent there. I am subbed to them tho, for different reasons
Well.. If I am in a museum, looking at a paint and there is a commentary book, I will sure leave a constructive comment, including positive and negative points, hoping that the artist will understand that I am not attacking him or his piece of art. Anyway... I would have so much more to say... But then it would be taken as a bad comment and would be deleted or ignored.
I don't understand how you can not take negative, yet constructive comments. To me, negative comments are as important as positive ones. It really helps me to review my opinions or to see a different side of things. For example, if i am wearing something that I like and someone tells me "This is looking great on you, but did you think that maybe it would look ever better with red shoes?" Why would I be offended? I would try red shoes or say "I prefer the shoes I am wearing, thank you!" :)
@DiesElleRock: I think Dana means the people who leave negative comments without being considerate and kind as opposed to being rude and cynical. You do have a point though as far as constructive criticism goes but the thing is, when you have a painting in front of you, you do not sit there and make a silent conversation with the painter "you should have used yellow instead of red". It is what it is, you either like it or not. There is nothing to compromise, much like a piece of art.

I really like your point of view, and totally agree with it. How do "viewers" expect every single guru to do completely different looks when there are thousands of "guru's" making videos, of course there's going to be some overlap, if you like one person's look better, go watch that video and skip leaving a hateful comment.

The thing is, the you tubers who get featured over and over and over must be good enough to be featured, and well done them. Those of us who do make videos that don't get featured, it's nothing personal. It's like being a real life celebrity. Every actor can't be famous, and there's no need to be sour about it. Making a video complaining about it isn't going to get you featured or anything like that. Keep doing what you're doing and it will eventually work out.

Very well said, appreciate your honestly and bluntness. I also feel that not every guru on youtube is for everyone, there are so many on youtube you can actually pick. I personally subscribe to those that I really like and that have resonated with me whether it be for a certain look, their talent, there way of being or personality, etc. I don't pick gurus based on how many subscribers they may have or how popluar they are. I think I may have found a new fav! Love this look on you!

All the points you mention in this video are the reason why I don't want to post a video on youtube. I have taken MANY tutorial looks and changed them because my eyes are a different color or I didn't have the same color/ shade used in the look. People need to get off what ever high horse they are sitting on and realize people have talent- pro or not, guy or girl, or because of whatever it is that causes the need to be rude. But I love your tutorials and mine would be the sameway witha kid in it

Sadly enough there is so much talent on youtube that is yet to be found by many people while girls with no real skill or talent that blows you off are becoming increasingly popular...

I am an Italian girl, I work in the ICT field and I have a passion for make up. Thanks for this video, you made me think a lot about the difference between a TV channel and a Youtube channel. I agree with basically everything you said and I must confess that (I guess only twice..!) I left comments like this "great look, however I don't like lashes". I honestly did not mean to be annoying or rude, it was just an honest opinion/suggestion, only because it's interactive youtube and not boring TV.

I have to say that I subscribed because of this video! I liked the makeup and I have watched many others on youtube and was actually quite annoyed by the attitudes of some of the other gurus who showed footage from IMATS. I really do not like people who act like they are better than someone based on superficial attributes and some of the gurus acted like this. I loved how you were so blunt, but very wise in your opinion.

@sehrbesessen I have my daughters friends..who are 12 watching my vids so I keep all my comments clean..she (my daughter )gets upset when she sees a comment come into my email...i run a clean channel and have removed all curse words from my titles from a company i worked with...there are too many young ppl watching. i do not care what ppl think and do not get hurt by it, everything rolls off my back. trolls are so sad.

Even if you ARE copying, who cares. The person that you copied should be flattered that it was good enough for someone else to want to try. I am new to the makeup videos, but can see there are favorites and that is fine as long as everyone is given a fair shot and negative comments are idiotic and should be deleted and thats it. Unless, they are constructive and NOT rude. Off to watch the lemon-lime tut. Good job and nice videos.

I know what you mean completely. Not only with Guru's. A young girl put up a video of herself singing and was immediately bashed by ignorant and hateful individuals and I could think of nothing other than helping her. People need to show respect to others, stop trying to make themselves feel better by hurting others and keep their negativity to themselves. At least you and everyone else on YouTube have the courage to show your talent to the world! Keep up the good work!

I think you're very right, Dana. It's sad that so many people have that much negativity to share... besides they may not be intelligent enough to see that, even if 2 artists do the exact same look, they would achieve it their own way... and there is soooo much to learn from that.

I am a makeup artist of 5 years now and I watch YT religiously. I often feel the urge to hop on and share what I know and have loads of fun making videos too...but it is exactly this kind of shit that has kept me from pursuing this. Thank you! I have noticed this and I am glad you are saying something about it. Every guru has something unique to show us and no one is exactly the same. The best way that i have found to learn makeup is to try and recreate someone else's look. There is nothing wrong with that! If no one could use the same color combinations or styles then pretty soon no one could wear makeup period...

People need to STFU. :-) If you like a video, watch it. If you don't like a video, don't watch it. You gotta understand most of the dumb comments are from kids. Keep on keepin' on. YouTube needs all types of people and tutorials and there are really no "new ideas".

Nikkie is amazing. I love her videos. You would never know she is only 15 by her talent. And i don't know about other people but i don't see any problems with her english.

All respect to you for speaking the truth. Youtube used to be really fun but I feel like now its like going down memory lane back to school. The school ground mentality with "she's better than you comments" Ive been experiencing the same nasty stuff. Im forever being put down because some other guru did a similar look and did it better. @DiesElleRock Dana and so many other talented gurus on YT share their "vision", to tamper with it does not make it theirs any more, nor can they aim to please everyone, of course. I totally agree with some people being sheep, just because someone has thousands of subbies does not mean they are good. I like Michelle for her presentation and I admire Lauren Luke for making her dream come true but I think there has been more hype than raw talent there. I am subbed to them tho, for different reasons

Well.. If I am in a museum, looking at a paint and there is a commentary book, I will sure leave a constructive comment, including positive and negative points, hoping that the artist will understand that I am not attacking him or his piece of art. Anyway... I would have so much more to say... But then it would be taken as a bad comment and would be deleted or ignored.

I don't understand how you can not take negative, yet constructive comments. To me, negative comments are as important as positive ones. It really helps me to review my opinions or to see a different side of things. For example, if i am wearing something that I like and someone tells me "This is looking great on you, but did you think that maybe it would look ever better with red shoes?" Why would I be offended? I would try red shoes or say "I prefer the shoes I am wearing, thank you!" :)

@DiesElleRock: I think Dana means the people who leave negative comments without being considerate and kind as opposed to being rude and cynical. You do have a point though as far as constructive criticism goes but the thing is, when you have a painting in front of you, you do not sit there and make a silent conversation with the painter "you should have used yellow instead of red". It is what it is, you either like it or not. There is nothing to compromise, much like a piece of art.

And I love the fact your real and let your kids run around and you video in your house.. It just shows your a real and casual whatever goes person..
