I like Dolly Parton rendition of the Led Zeppelin classic. Being a huge Zep, I bought this album when it came out, because I like Country too.

It's really nice, superimposing Dolly's original singing with your rendition, it does achieve that duet feel. :) Though there were parts that sounded as if you were late in breaking into a note or verse by a second, the video and your rendition is still very good :) Great job!

I liked everything excpet the banjo. I did not dislike the banjo. But I think it was played a bit conservatively for this song. This song screams for an all out banjo solo. I can hear it in my head. I just wish I could play it.

Hmm...If one had never heard of the original song, this version would be still be hauntingly memorable. It definitely could be used as a song during the credits of a good southern ghost story! Banjo and all! Dolly's voice sounds eerily magical here.

I admire Dolly's courage and confidence to cover the song, but she just can't seem to rebound the mysterious power Led Zeppelin had when they recorded this. Nice try for a valiant effort.

I have heard many covers of this song, however this is not one that I will recommend to anyone. I didn't even believe my friend when he told me she did this, and I ended up here hoping it wasn't true. Classic song in the original form, but it loses something when someone tries to make it a country music song. The phrase "Keep on rockin' in the free world" was not said to include fiddle music.

I'm always dismayed when I read a post comparing one version of a song to another. I think you really have to let each version stand on its' own merit and judge it as that. And there IS that old saying "If you can't say something nice....." you know the rest. An example of two great versions of the same song are Willie Nelson and Dave Matthews versions of "Grave Digger". Both can be found here on youtube. Check them out.

There are two different songs called "Stairway to Heaven". The other was done by Neil Sedaka, who co-wrote it with Howard Greenfield. Neither is particularly Dolly's style, but I would consider the Sedaka one to be closer than this one. Doing a song from a Brill Building writing team wouldn't be new to her - Her first big crossover hit, "Here You Come Again", was written by Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil.

This cover is pathetic, the solo is sung over by her just yelling stairway to heaven. The banjo's player's creativity in the solo is completely drowned because (as a solo female singer) she can't allow instrumentals.

Stairway to heaven can be covered, and covered well, however by shouting stairway to heaven it removes subtlety and ruins the solo - regarded as one of the best solos in music.

When I heard Stairway To Heaven was on here covered by Dolly Parton, I thought "You have to be joking"! Haunting is the word I think sums this up. And it IS very clever. Love the bluegrass tinge as well. To say I'm surprised is the understatement of the year! Nice!!!
