  • I was able to see 7 moves ahead when I was still young, but as I grow older and practice less, I cant even remember 3 moves ahead...same as Karpov, if his memory is still at prime 20s, I bet magnus cant win...

  • 1:17 Why did he gave up with a pawn more?

  • @janvelske1998 because when the king moves, the kid will take his queen :)

  • Kasparov was actually winning this game. Look at some commentary video on it and you'll see there wasn't much Carlsen could do to win.

  • Karpov, a true gentleman!

  • Karpov, a true gentleman.

  • he had a hooker waiting at his hotel. She's paid by the hr so he lost intentionally =P

  • right from the early days, i t was obvious carlsen will be another chess legend. had a feature of a kid but the mind of a centurion... little wonder he is world's #1 today

  • i stand a chance against karpov.. ouch. degrading

  • so what? it's quite normal in every future world champ and in every former world champ.

  • That's what distinguishes a real chessmaster, after loosing, he is wise and intelligent enough to know that it is better to admire his opponent and be happy that the sport he played so long has everything but reached it's top.

  • Ohh..he got so old now..

  • Karpov certainly has a lot more dignity than the prick who posted this

  • @braller1 damn you're a douche

  • i used to play chess then i took a 13 year old to the knee

  • i used to play chess well to then i took an arrow to the knee

  • @itsme23411 wont work

  • Kasparov fan fuck the rest !

  • Kasparov didn't STEAL the title from Karpov. He earned it.

  • @ZamfirChannel Agreed- probably just a combination of journalistic sloppiness & not quite understanding the nuances of a second language...

  • realy gentleman,karpov!!!

  • Siempre fuiste un amargo cheIVon!

  • Former World Champion and yet so humble... awesome...!!!

  • I was expecting an Asian.

  • In chess, you should always expect someone from the former Soviet states.

  • the kid was magnus carlsen, now rated #1 in the world

  • What is the name of that classical sounding song in the beginning!? I must know

  • Who was the kid?

  • @Omango99

Magnus Carlsen, now the top rated player in the world and the man with the second highest ever rating in the history of chess (behind Kasparov).

  • clearly he underestimated his opponent which is a common mistake for chess veterans

  • He lost to his son?

  • @TheBVDB great great grandson

  • the big smile of magnus mom says it all!

  • Wow, nice video, but what is the kid's name?? That would've been a useful piece of information.... :/ Was it Magnus something? Monga? What's his full name??

  • @briles24 He's arguably the best player in the world right now. Go find him.

  • @briles24 Magnus Carlsen. He's grown up now, though.

  • Umm Spassky??? Duh..I'm aware of that and as world champion, he didn't have to play or beat anyone to defend against Fischer. Come on...stop being an asshat.

  • Holy fuck!! Karpov's face!

  • Magnus Carlsson

  • 1:49 mothafuker i lose to a kid

  • Great chessplayers are composed of enormous talent for the game, training, consistency, proper direction, focus, AND EXTREME HUNGER TO BE THE BEST & TO STRIVE FOR SOME GOAL, WHICH MAKES THEM TO FIGHT THE HARDEST.

After 20 years, Karpov lost his passion and hunger. Kasparov was HUNGRY and took the championship. When Kasparov lost his hunger, he lost to Anand. Competitive chess isn't for the half hearted at any level.

  • @lyles1005 true say

  • KARPOV was supported by communist machine,he beated V.KORCHNOI because V.Korchnoi was a dissident,,,,,,,

  • and the kid is.......karpov's grandson........that would have been great!

  • Karpov and Kasparov are two different pppl....I just figured that out -_-

  • @DarkStarz900 lol

  • kasparov is the best!!!

  • my respect to Karpov, despite his caliper still a simple man with the passion of chess and not retired as a star (Kasparv).

  • his name is magnus magnus carlsen

  • What's his name ?? They never say is name in the video nor in the description...

  • Comment removed

  • @Olliek94 Very close? He is the current world #1 and has been for quite some time now unless you haven't noticed.

  • Carlsen is like Fischer in some ways.

  • Magnus^^

  • Guess whom*****?

  • Comment removed

  • Now lets se them do that with boxing gloves on...

  • after everyones had the chance to study him it's not really a shocker. Happens to all the greats of anything. After everyone studies them, them somebody else comes along. Its like comparing a basketball star of today against old legends like Dr J, or Micheal Jordan. These guys were awesome before the And 1 tapes, and the internet. Now everyone can study any

great person with the sole purpose of surpassing them. Kid could be the next world champ for a while.

  • hes like Akagi !

  • @Zephyr8823 Best comment ever

  • Humiliating.

  • Karpov,legend and gentleman,as chessplayers use to be !

  • Oh yeah?! Well there is no santa!

  • 1:16 Do I see it correctly? Karpov loses Q to Carlsens F4+

  • @myrtlebox LOL. Yep your right. Can't believe you spotted that. lol

  • i would like to play karpov , kasparov is kind of an arrogant , but karpov is a real gentleman , that's why i like him

  • i remember this game being a draw?

  • @CharlieWTV2 that was Magnus vs KASPAROV not KARPOV

  • @CharlieWTV2 that was Kasparov

  • Can't remeber where, but Carlsen himself once claimed it is disabilitating to be "too" smart, as you can then generate too much noise to be able to focus at the highest level.

  • Karpov actually seems like a nice guy, despite his so-called involvement with the 'chess mafia'... ;)

  • carlsen

  • This is indeed impressive for Carlsen at age 13 to beat Karpov. It would be more impressive, however, if Carlsen won with the black pieces. I would like to have seen them play a series of games instead of just one.

  • in chess age really dont matter...u know the moves and right strategy...even at 5 yrs of age....u can win....

  • @vikramaLP So having a far more developed brain isn't an advantage at all? That's basically like saying that chess has nothing to do with the brain. It has everything to do with the brain. Carlsen beating Karpov as a 13-year old is extremely impressive.

  • @sh0werp0wer Nobody is talking about brain here...its the right strategy, learning from mistakes fast improvising is what you need. Carlsen can focus at this age of 13 is very good and not being distracted...there are kids at 5 yrs who play achieved1600 rating. Talking about brain a " Savant" is retarded but can remember all strategy in the book and apply it, why coz his brain captured all the strategy and responses...not because he learned it from experaince but by memory power of Savant.

  • ahh, cause their playing blitz ,, thats kinda why i think

  • mmm I think that kid is Magnus Carlsen... am I right???

  • @nabulodonozor Of course. Magnus Carlsen is a Real Genious!!!

  • How on earth - why on earth, do they move the pieces so fast?

  • @Epeolatry1 each person has a timer on the right in which they must click to stop there time after there move, spending to long on a move is not a good thing as it can cost the game.

  • @ZerkosXD So there's a time limit on how long you can spend on a move?

  • @Epeolatry1 Well kind of yeh, it's more like each player has a time let's say 10 minutes, so each player tends to move quickly in order for their time to not decrease and lose the game.

  • That boy is Grandmaster Magnus Carlsen.

  • Good man; a gracious loser.

  • This kid is Magnus ? :D

  • "It'll be tough against Kasparov, but I can kick Karpov's ass"

  • What is the Commentator talking about at 0:37 ??? Karpov never beat Kasparov in a rematch 1991, there was no such match - the last wc-match was in 1990 New York/Lyon, which Kasparov won with 12,5-11,5. After that match Kasparov (and Short) 'left' the Fide-Cycle. (As far as i remember only in the 1984/85, their first match, Karpov lead with 5-3 before the match was ended without winner. And 1987 in Sevilla it was a 12-12.)

  • LOL..that "kid" is now the highest rated player in the world...

  • notice the wave of young chess players today, that beat grandmasters or just competing at a masters level....THE UNIVERSE IS TALKING TO US! THESE CHILDREN ARE COMING TO EARTH WELL EQUIPED! ITS A WONDERFUL FEELING TO SEE THAT.

  • Karpov later went on to blow his brains out in a public stall...

  • He had white in the kasparov match as well the Karpov, and that probably helped him a little bit, nonetheless he was a beast!!

  • Karpov is one of my favorite players. Kasparov gets the acclaim but Karpov is one of the greatest ever. Consummate player.

  • @pineapplepeanuts

    yes very good attitude.

Even though chess is a game of breaking the opponets Ego, its obvious Karpov's intelligence goes well beyond the chess board. He would never go as low as showing ignorance after a kid bit him.

  • @pineapplepeanuts but he could not even lick spassky's used toilet paper

  • @Commonsense11111 What? Are you aware that Karpov's record against Spassky is 15 wins - 2 losses??

  • @gigisdad are you aware that spassky beat out Karpov to play fisher in 1972?

  • @Commonsense11111 Spassky beat Karpov to play Fischer in 1972? Umm..are you on crack?

  • @gigisdad really? who was world champion before Fischer?

  • @Commonsense11111 Yeah Karpov owned Spassky. Fischer VS Karpov in the 70s would of been epic.

  • @pineapplepeanuts really?,

then why didnt karpov play in 72?

  • @Commonsense11111 From what I understand, Fischer was way to picky over rules/regs/agreements by this time. Karpov was in his prime and many believed he would of beaten Fischer had they actually played.

  • @pineapplepeanuts then you really dont understand anything at all. does your mother still brush your teeth?

spassky was the best in the ussr. karpov could not lick his tp. spassky could have won by default when fischer refused to come out for game 3. spassky allowed the room change, and ultimately lost. to punish spassky, the russians made karpov 1st board. karpov sucked, kasperov spanked him for years afterwards. korchnoi was a joke as well.

  • @Commonsense11111 Hmmm I guess I read wrong on that bit. It doesn't diminish my respect for Karpov though. And no my mother doesn't "brush my teeth," its just that I have a life to attend to that involves learning more relevant things. You should try it sometime, because if you are nerding out over chess history on Youtube, you're the one who's probably still living in your mother's basement.

  • @pineapplepeanuts oh, i get it, you post wrong facts, and then when you are corrected, you say that it is not worth the time to post things correctly.

wow, with an intellect like that, your chess rating must be as high as 200

  • @Commonsense11111 Not worth the time? When you have other responsibilities to worry about, you have to determine what is and isn't worth your time. Its called being a mature adult, which I'm compromising by arguing with some anonymous troll on Youtube who measures his dick according to his FIDE rating. The worst part: You couldn't even hold Karpov's dirty jockstrap, so you're in no position to criticize anyway.

  • @pineapplepeanuts oh, i get it. The five posts that you put on here were worth the time, (especially the ones trying to prove me wrong) but when you are proven wrong, then all of a sudden posting is not worth the time! I home you are not a lawyer, but with that great intellect of yours, you could really play good chess in a nursery school

  • karpov underestamited the kid, most high rate players see low rating and think it is cake so they dont try as hard.

  • @30inventionman

Hahaha, than they lose like 70 pts off their rating. XD

  • @30inventionman I mean these competitions are in series so someone of Karpov's caliber and experience would be extremely unlikely to underestimate their opponents after the first game.

  • Karpov,shame on you!

  • Kasparov will be hard .. But karpov! Easy :D

  • 01:58 nad jego lewym okiem ten cień wygląda jak dziwna brew xD

  • Young minds are going to change chess and it doesn´t matter how strong computers are; human young kids who are developing their skills will be harder to beat than computers. So it is not hard to believe this situation.

  • Magnus Carlsen is the best player ever !

  • @Destruction368 Fischer was

  • How about referring to him by name in the description? Especially considering you posted this at a time when he was already perhaps the most famous chess player that is active today.

    l o l

  • I think the two main things to take from this is- 1: The young man is gathering momentum very similar to most great champions were like at his age. 2: The attitude of Karpov was stellar, complementary, impressed and classy - not what you expect after bad press.

On the other hand Kasparov was arrogant walking off after a draw with a little 13 year old and he was rude and disrespectful - not what you expect from one with such great press?

    Great game and players!

  • "This kid has now achieved becoming #1 in the world. Could we be looking at a future World Champion?" Umm... you seem to have a problem with your definitions. Or perhaps I do?

  • @antismatic There's being ranked #1 by Elo points and then there's being the World Champion by winning the World Chess Championship title. Two seperate things.

  • @Damzified absolutely

until he beats anand (he he ever does) he is not the best

  • @antismatic Yep, two very different things. Being ranked number 1 isn't enough, they have to prove themselves in a match against the world champion, and that's no easy task. Matches are really exhausting for chess players. I know that other guy just told you, but I thought I'd add to his explanation.

  • "he's... he's... he's... ...... very good" lol

  • I always been Karpov fan,i thinke Magnus"s style is pretty much the same.Wish him to win world title. He is ready for that.As for Anatoly Karpov he steel had 2700 at the age of 59 being among the top 15,and in top 30 in the age of 55.The purets talent in chess history

  • You also have to remember something. Just like physical combat, mental combat can be extremely taxing. To the child its a GAME and its FUN, you do allot better at something when you are having fun. Karpov is one of the guys that got me into chess in the 80s. I took 2nd place at my school yearly torunament that year when you get older though you lose a bit of the edge.Karpov is by no means a push over and would smoke me but when he was younger he was a beast.

  • What? Did Karpov beat Kasparov in a rematch in 1991? What kind of information is that?

  • Might be another Josh Waitzkin who does push hands in a few years lol

  • Karpov is a gentleman. If you want to see a poor loser look up Sophia Polgar against Victopr Korchnoi; Interesting.

  • for a moment i thought bobby fischer came back from the dead to wreak havoc among today's chess champions xD

  • schach-brett.de

  • Rofl it's almost laughable how nice Karpov is about all of this. In my scholastic playing days I would be pretty ticked off if I lost to someone a lot younger than me in a tournament or if they were much lower rated than me. I can't FATHOM how a world champion could take a loss so well.

  • @PrUnEJuIcEtHeThIrD

I don't think he took this game seriously...

  • @PrUnEJuIcEtHeThIrD Sportsmanship, maybe? Sure it's a loss, but the guy was legitimately beaten. Why should it matter the characteristics of the winner?

  • @au5tin222 Are you saying that it's the same psychologically whether you get beat by a world champion or whether you get beat by a 5 year old?

  • i'm stupid. magnus win by checkmate???

  • @zigglersuck no karpov resignes because magnus wins his queen

  • Karpov is a really nice person!!! May God bless him.

  • Karpov,an honourable chess player and a gentlemen.he is graceful even in defeat by a child.

  • @shinigamiartemis aaw, you could he see, he did feel it!

  • @shinigamiartemis Karpov is Legendary!

  • ok pat yourselfs as a family on the back-----then move on to important things. you only care. it's a board game and you are posting like a cure has been found. enough

  • Karpov is great even when he loses! Karpov forever!

  • karpov is a fake version of kasporov..guess there r plenty of em in russian

  • the kid is so good

  • Fucking Carlsen. He is a rare combination of strong skill and strong will. He is also very strong mentally; he doesn't go down on himself when loosing nor he throws tantrums.

  • omg

  • I played Magnus's dad on ICC. He is a 2100 player like me.

  • In Russia Kids beat YOU

  • @NikoBelack thats getting old man..

  • @pielx0xcanela Im Russia Man GETS OLD

  • @NikoBelack Well no, because the kid is not russian xD

  • @m0skit0zindahouse He would have became Russian when he beaten Karpov, but then he took an arrow to the knee.

  • @NikoBelack In Russia, literally "everybody"...will beat YOU ( NikoBelack )

  • Not the main point of the video at all but you gotta love and respect Karpov. What a gentleman.

  • I TAKE OFFENCE TO THIS VIDEO. KASPAROV DIDN'T "STEAL" THE CHESS WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP. TRUE, HE WAS 5-0 DOWN, BUT THEN SHOWED US WHAT A TRUE CHAMPION HE IS BY COMING BACK 5-3 AND WON THE REMATCH A YEAR LATER IN MOSCOW WHERE HE WON THE VERY FIRST GAME AND WENT ON TO WIN A GREAT MATCH THAT NOT ONLY AMAZED THE CHESS WORLD BUT ALSO STUNNED US ALL WITH HIS GENUIS. THE TERM "STOLE" KARPOV'S CROWN NOT ONLY INSULTS KASPAROV, BUT INSULTS HIS MANY MILLIONS OF HIS FANS AROUND THE WORLD INCLUDING ME.

  • @TEDOVSKY dude, live with it

  • Can some one please post the pgn file?

  • Magnus Carlsen is the next bobby fischer !

  • WTF ! ! ! ! ! well, we'll c if he's gonna be the true master or it was just luck.

  • @aOmmyLuv He has been ranked number 1 in the world for more or less a year and a half and holds a number of records, so id say it wasnt just luck.

  • @bananosbjarne well, i only know a few things about chess society. so i don't know who he is and how he is now. lol.

  • what Karpov was going to say is F**K! HOW THE F**K DID A F*****G 13 YEAR OLD DEFEAT A F*****G FORMER WORLD F*****G CHAMP?!

  • poor old Karpov! spare a thought to the old-timer...

  • well think of this. Would he be able to beat Karpov at his best shape? Not when he's old and not trained as good as before? But yet, this is still very impressive.

  • @Yodovannn He has reached a higher FIDE-Elo rating than Karpov ever did, so my answer would have to be yes. Only Kasparov has reached a higher rating than this kid.

  • wow...I know this is not terribly constructive, and he certainly doesn't deserve such a remark..but does anyone else look at Karpov and think: now there's someone with an old, deep voice?
