Just to let you guys know, you're not playing as N. Oxide. It's just a graphic and audio swap. This N. Oxide is vulnerable to the weapons from other characters. Penta, in the PAL version has max stats like Oxide. Also, Oxide crashes on some tracks.

I remember getting duped thinking that beating all Nitrous' times would enable me to unlock him. I was obviously wrong. I got 101% on Adventure Mode, all Platinum Relics even all platinum times on time attack. Man I was annoyed that this guy couldn't be unlocked by regular means. Great game though :).

@kyleadams01 you just gota hold down r1 and l1 at the menu (or the new/load screen if u want cheats in the adventure) and then u press the buttons in sequence to acces the codes, happy cheating :)

If you mean getting Penta Penguin, it's a sequence of buttons.

If you mean getting Oxide, it's a code that can only be put in if you're using GameShark.

@kyleadams01 I'm gonna assume you have the console and not an emulator, because I don't have much experience with getting him on an emulator :P . If you want him on the console though, you gotta get a cheat device such as Gameshark (I got a thing called Xploder cuz it's more versatile, but it's up to you). Then you put codes on the cheat device, then boot up CTR. I'll PM you in more detail if you want.

I think Oxide has the same stats as Crash, only the model is different. I played with Oxide and also used Penta Penguin, Penta Penguin was surprisingly faster in my opinion. Either that or Oxide's car is just too big to see. :P

I came up with the same stats as Crash hypothesis hence the fact that if you load Gameshark before you use the character, you see Crash's car (glitched) turning around.

You should set your controls to be like this:

Arrow keys = D-pad

Z, S, D, X = [], /\, O, X (respectively)

A, Q, F, R = L1, L2, R1, R2 (respectively)

Now put your middle finger on X, and your ring and index finger on A and F respectively. You should now be able to boost-slide with ease. It's a nice control scheme, and works great for playing CTR on a PSX emulator.

you coul here ripper roos voice because he used ePSXe 160 and in this emulator the charachters voice are messed up with an other's. Like when oxide say yes after it some seconds later riper roo will laugh. Or when Coco says there you go Dr. cortex will say ohhoho my head

Unlock Nitros Oxide :

Complete adventure mode with all platinum relics, next defeat all n. trophys ghost cars in time trial tracks in order starting with crash cove first do not proceed to defeat oxides ghost. next defeat all of oxides ghosts in time trial tracks in order starting with crash cove first. then at the main title screen hold L1 + R1 and press Right, Circle, Triangle, Left, Down, Circle, Triangle, and Left . Oxide will now be on character select screen. scroll down to 2nd screen.

When you use this emulator with this game the charachters voice are belongs to anoter characters voice its a mistake in this emulator. Youknow when you emulate a game it wobnt be perfect. I know how to unlock nitrous oxide and its not a lie it said on the cheat code papers: This is how:

First, go on time trial mode.

Next, beat nitrous oxide's ghost on every single level of the time trial mode.

Finally, you have him and that's how u unlock N.Trophy also.

Gosh, when I was younger, it was my damn quest to unlock oxide. First, I was so sure beating the game you'd get him. Nope, it had to be the purple gem, nope. All relics, nope. Thought it coulda been all platinum relics, nope. 101% completion, still no oxide. All cups beating on hard in arcade mode, still no oxide. Finally, it had to be the very very challanging task of beating his ghosts, and when I do, I get a damn scrapbook. Holy crap I was pissed. Lol.

When you hack and use Oxide, he has voices that only the player can hear (Such as jumping off a large jump and all, even when you use him and break a record, his icon and name color are there. So apparently he was just partially incomplete, but the game developers removed him from the playable roster. I was hella pissed when I did every damn thing I could to get Oxide. XD;

My dream was same. I wanted to play as Nitrous Oxide. I've read in a psx magazine, that beating all his bosses will work for sure. I think I was playing as Tiny Tiger because of the speed boost. I got fake crash, penta penquin... I even tried to play whole game again without entering any codes for characters ( I thought this was maybe the reason why he wont unlock ), but this was useless. I had gameshark, though I had no internet connection to find some cheats for it;p

i can completely relate to u! im 20 years old and been playing it since its release date!sadly crash nitro kart wasnt up to my expectations, do you agree? but sadly there is no way to unlock n.oxide, even on gameshark, because technically what u see there is a picture/animation of nitrous oxide over another character (Ripper Roo) thats y u hear ripper roo.. look really close, and u'll notice the two lil boosts from a small car. when u race him as boss he uses the boosts on the back of his ship.

on crash team racing, to go so fast round corners. when u r sliding with r1 or l1 you will see a little bar under the map when you are sliding. when it goes red press r1 or l1 while keeping hold of the one you were already holding down. u will get boost. u can do this three times. the last one is big.

You can't, you can cheat with a GameShark to get it, but when you end the race the game will crash because Oxide doesn't have a winning pose programmed in the game.

Also since his polygon count is high some level slowdown or do not work at all.

well, in Ps1 u can't get him. There is a cheat to take penta penguin but u can't use Oxide. On computer there is a crack that unlock him, so u can play as Oxide only on the computer.
