  • Cool action 3:34

  • man, this film just makes me realize how much my life sucks.

  • Great vid got on here to listen to one song and ended up watchin this whole vid. Wish there were still more skaters like thoes guys around

  • 4 people don't know whta "Dislike" means.

  • The shorts were rector shorts which had pads in them!

back when people who were young were skinny!!!!!

  • I'm glad girly shorts didn't last long.

  • @tatchiwu im not

  • 1:36 Alva's black eye hahaha

  • @bmcgee675 is it from when he got snuffed like in the movie part? lol if so hahah

  • if god exist, he skates like Tony Alva

  • That's when shorts were short!

  • 1:58 jimi hendrix 1983 a merman i should turn to be, beautiful

  • Who could dislike this?

  • nike blazers and vans !!

  • Best part!!!!

  • old school skateboards n´ skate longboards! NO MORE!. Those little boards with little wheels to skate around the parks shouldn´t be called skateboards!

  • you can see tony's black eye from when he got punched

  • The year 1975. TONY ALVA became a HERO to millions of kids across the globe. And he still is. He is why I rode a Logan Earth Ski "Torger Johnson" model. My best bud dug Jay Adams and bought a red Z-Flex "Jay Adams model". And never looked back. All we would do was ride, smoke, jam and look for empty pools. Every month we looked forward to Skateboarder Magazine. We would be on lookout for the UPS man who would be in route with a box of goodies from VAL SURF.

  • Jesus is coming.

  • It was very cool to watch this again, wtfwhiterabbit, thank you. I thought that this film was going to remain just a nice drive-in memory that I would never have a chance in hell of seeing again...

  • Christ where did you find this??? I watched this when I was 16. Nearly broke my neck skateboarding and gave up with it but it was bloody good fun while I was mad!

  • thanks so much for posting this! I started skating in 1976/77 got banned by my parents and just started again - 34 years later!! I remember this film , particularly the end segment with the pipes in the desert.

Anyone got the World About Us film where they cover surfing in Bali ? That partly turned me on to surfing which I've done for almost 30 years ?

  • why isnt Jay Adams mentioned in this movie? He had the best style of all the Z Boys.

  • @onidpooc

Jayboy had really shit business representation around this time whereas TA and Stacy were working for the best companies and getting the best promotional deals. Jay got really turned off to the business side of things very early on because of this and that made people want to not include him in their projects.

I think that Jay made the choice that was best for him. He really doesn't strike me as the kind of person for whom money would compensate him being someone's dancing monkey.

  • jay was the best of all

  • @ssmena1 sux he went the wrong rode well for me it was the wrong one

  • i love how jay transfered to another pipe and all these guys are doing is kickturns

  • @fakyfiles what are you talking about

  • @pedrodelfino12 jay did a transfer from one of those pipes to the other andd wasnt filmed (except for a picture) while these guys are just doing fucking kickturns

  • you ment to state TA

  • Muito massa, valeu!

  • thanx fer postin whiterabbit! awesome fu$#in movie!

  • yeah those time girls are not called posers and now..... uhhh

  • Yup skate boarding is not a game it's life :D

  • Man, I remember the late 70's well. Embankment on Sundays, Skate City, Maxwell Skate shop on Notting Hill, street skatin' and wiping out from speed wobble on Primrose Hill - ouch - those sure were the days. Everyone was at it! Fond memories ;-)

  • Tony Alva's black eye at 2.20... ouch!

  • Wow... the original Skateboarding! So fluid and cool style.

  • did u see tonys eye? I saw lords of dogtown and how he had to get 2 eye surgeries. Looked like he got a black eye there.

  • cooooool

  • @alec12: i know how you feel man. being born in '79, i didn't get to experience any of this.

those pipes were some of the sickest footage i've ever seen. did anyone ever make it all the way around?

  • thanks for posting this

watched it all and loved every minute of it :-)

  • skateboarders never die, they just roll a little slower

  • @amonroy985 fuck yeah

  • Epic. I miss those free and easy times..

  • This is where the real soul of skating is. I longboard and skateboard, and I can tell you that ripping up a little bank with soft wheels and insanely loose trucks is so much more fun and laid back than this street skating stuff. even when I do skate with a new style deck, I try to skate like these guys.

  • thanks for the post. i love alva's huge frontside carves.

  • skateboarders never die they just roll a little bit slower

    epic line right there

  • whats the song at 4:06?????....i wish things stayed like this...but its got all gay, pretty boys skate now....

  • skating would of been awesome back in the day, no its all about money and comps, i wish it was just so still

  • Sick skating, pioners of pool riding

  • ahhhh i've watched this part 7 times. man, where the hell are those pipes?

  • @MADskater247 They're more than likley underground now, they are part of the canal system thats carrying water all around Cali and Az. Type this in your browser and search! "The Arizona Desert Pipes" you might be able to get more 411 on them! Also, check this one out, if you havent seen this one it is sure to blow your mind! "Skating The Glory Hole"

  • @morrocyclon AHH thanks man

  • @MADskater247 Any time bro! \iii/

  • @morrocyclon

Are they still threatening to gate off the Glory Hole every couple of months like they used to?

A young friend of my wife's almost got into fisticuffs a few years back with some young punk there for tellng the kid to fucking pick up after himself. The rangers try to be cool but I don't blame them for getting pissed off about the kids that leave their garbage behind and tag the place up.

  • @MADskater247 underground full of water hitting cali they were in AZ...

  • I was skating in the seventies and still am!

    Yeah Ha!

skating lost its way with street style and 90+ duro's (rock hard and no fun clackety clack)

Old Skool, longboarding and softer duro's will bring a resurgance of the laid back skateboarding scene.

you don't have to throw a nollie click flip off a flight of 18 stairs to have fun. LOL!

  • Alva Wears Blazers!

  • lol, people should dress like that again as a joke

  • same

  • Special aura of the era. The soundtrack during the pipeline sessions is pure soul.

  • SO GOOD SO FUCKING GOOD! that's the real deal!

  • jay adams a true skater!

  • the non-Henrix bit of music when they're running towards the pipes is Stomu Yamashta's Memory of Hiroshima from The Man from the East album. Also used on the soundtrack to The Man Who Fell to Earth

  • yeah like he said 633 sk8ers grow up slower

  • sk8ordie para todo el mundo.

  • Well I think keep making Gerital, We'll keep drinking it and be able to skate! Skate boarders never die, they just roll a little slower!!!!!Yah!!!He knows what he's talking about!!!!

  • 5:45 Don't worry T.A.! That has happened to me many times! Just shake it offf!1

  • This is when Tony had his black eye

  • @IETCHX Yah! He dd have a black eye! 1:32!

  • yeah man, watch Lords of Dogtown...some guy Smacked him down

  • that was radical shit love it

  • 1:22 did he shit his pants

  • @aznboi11218 i think maybe it's padding for the ass, hehe !

  • Anyone know the song when they're running towards the pipes???

  • @markwales I'mnot sure. but it sounds like "Pink Floyd!" The rest is Jimi Hendrix!

  • Yeah, I know the Hendrix bit, but not sure if the other it is floyd or not! haha. I'll find out somehow! Thanks!

  • The bit that's not Hendrix is Stomu Yamashta's Memory of Hiroshima on The Man from the East. Also used on the soundtrack to The Man Who Fell to Earth.

  • @price9574 THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! I really want to check out this guys album! Sounds promising!

  • those are the boys where did you find this video?!!

  • skate forever.

  • Haven't seen this since i was a boy,great thx.

  • So awesome, thank you so much for sharing this.

  • Rad...........

  • Thanks for posting !

  • dude....the SOUND of them skating that pipe. you can HEAR how smooth it was...

  • @mcul2112 Think it was soft wheels too. soft wheels sound heaps better

  • This documentary was made for the BBC in the UK in 1978, tonight's the first time I've seen it since it was originally shown. Back then I was 13, now I'm 45. Awesome!!!!

  • hholy crap...i have been trying to figure out...kinda what skateboarding is all about and what is the inspiration behind it all. the energy, the love, the sense of freedom that you get from getting air is just so fucking awesome. And you can just see all of that in this film.

  • thats tony alva!!!!!!!!!!!

  • "very good chance that skateboarding will be in the 1984 olympics" hahaha

    Never!

  • the pipes was the best part of the hole (gedit) relativekly boring historical artifact,. Mustve been a great day...

  • I love his Alva deck, I have the 1977 re-issue and let me tell you...It kicks ass! Ollie, kickflip, pop shove it, gnarly grinds and at the skate park especially ones with snake ones, it just bombs like no other and the wheels

are soo smooth - like riding on air

    I skated Santa Rosa skatepark

(60miles north of San Francisco) with my Alva re-issue and it rocked. I got a great and surprisingly positive reaction/feed back form the other skaters sporting their new model decks such as a P.Rod deck.

  • thanks for this series. brings back the memories of early skating.

  • I'm grateful i got to watch this, thanks wlfwhiterabbit.

  • jay adams and tony alva are by far the most talented. they are the reson we have the sport today.

  • salba or tay hunt would have smoked any of these guy's at this time!

  • what exactly did they use those pipe sections for. What size of pump would push water through something that big...?

  • probably for water flow from the Colorado River into AZ and So.Calif. cities.

  • ezt én is betesztelném :)

  • where is this location??????

  • somewhere near mesa, arizona, that mountian in the background is a landmark around here.

  • are those giant pipes still there?

  • that area is developed now, with houses and shopping centers, those pipes are underground.

  • did TA have a black eye?? haha

  • looks sick in hq! yeah biniak in effect!

  • absolutely sick video it inspires me like hell to go out and skate on my 1979 powel peralta beamer

  • alva was a dick back then

  • It's not a direct scene from Lords of Dogtown - this type of situation was recreated in the movie but this isn't that footage. This footage was probably included in "Dogtown and Z-Boys" - the documentary which came before "Lords of Dogtown."

  • they show adams in the pipes with his mexican buddies but this is the real footage of the desert pipes.

dont look into lords of dogtown look into dogtown and z boys

  • man im so pissed off

    i wish i was from the 70's

    good skating

    good music

    :(

  • i'll second that

  • I was skating in 70@s and still am!!

    Yeeeah Ha!

I'm as good as they always said I was!

  • @alec12 samee man

  • @alec12 I was there... things are much better (for skating and skateboarders) now.

  • @GBJPhotoWorks Thank you. I'm so tired of skaters saying they wish they grew up in the '70s.

  • @alec12 even like to be born in the fifties so you could go to woodstock in 69 and so on....

  • @guitarman030

Woodstock never interested me. I look at the individual performers and think, "I'd rather have seen Hendrix at the Isle of Wight..."

I'd have LOVED to have been born in the 50's to have seen Bill Haley and his Comets or Buddy Holly and The Chrickets play, though.

  • lovely stuff, thanks for posting :)

  • 70's was king x

  • what i would give to have lived in this era

  • "and i think theres a very very good chance that skateboarding will be in the 1984 olymics"..........nopee. i think skateboarding had more respect back then than it has now even from outsiders
