I'm actually right in the thick of this right now. The problem I'm having is that I have ADHD, and even in complete silence my train of thought only lasts about 10 seconds. Is it poor faith for me to be prepared for God to speak to me, but not expect him to?
@EnvyMy75 Hmm..I'd say it depends on how you expect to hear from God. faith comes from hearing the word of God, so I'd say God speaks to us mainly when we read Scripture, listen to sound biblical teaching, meditate on our spiritual health, etc.
God bless you pastor Drisscol! Sometimes people of God in the ministry are more focused on what they can do, on what could be useful which is not necessary a priority for their calling. It is like seeking the blessings first before the Kingdom of God.
God's call is specific and it is a command and not and option among other things.
Well....I must agree with this guy, sometimes we are so driven to reach our potential that we miss, or almost miss, God's calling for us!! Almost happened to me! I wonder how many other things I missed because I was trying to reach my "potential" when God wanted me over there doing something else

This is a very good vid for ADD/ADHD people. I have ADD myself and I know that the message from God is: let the world out! It's so true that I'm out of touch with this 'inner anchor' telling me what my calling is, because satans' call to keep me busy is louder. Appearantly I've confused him with Gods' voice, because he's warning me with the parable of the talents that it's God who wants to see us busy! Like God meant: Live up to the IQ I gave you! - and I'm behind with first things all the time.
I dig what you say Pastor Mark. Maybe this can help with some perspective.
Imagine your faucet is leaking. You call a plumber, his name is Joe. On the way to your home Joe has a flat. To his surprise, with no prior training, he changes the tire with amazing efficiency. He opens a tire and rim shop. Now you're swimming in your kitchen because no one can fix a pipe and learn how to balance tires at the same time. Even Joe.
What's wrong with being poor and always having to worry about loosing your job and living paycheck to paycheck? I thought living without choices was good?
Your potential is your calling, it's the same thing. God has given you a talent (potential) so you can develop it and then use it to reveal God to others. You have too many talentless, unskilled, and uneducated Christians who have no influence in the world because they never made anything of themselves. God's gift to you is potential and your gift to Him is to use it to glorify Him.
@stillonparolee "u have more things you can do than what u should do" the point of this message is focus. God leads us in specific ways. Mark Driscoll is a talented preacher and he could probably get hired to preach @ alot of churches , he could POTENTIALLY be a preacher @ multiple churches @ once, but God hasn't called him to preach @ multiple churches, He's called him to preach @ Mars Hill. The ability 2 preach @ many diff church is potential , the fact that he preaches @ mars hill is calling
@stillonparolee You need to read your bible again. God takes the untalented and uneducated, thus the disciples. If we make "something" of ourselves then we boast in that......God uses the simple to confound the wise.
@stillonparolee False. My friend Jordan played baseball for Rice. He actually had 10 offers to play in the major leagues. In was set to play for the Astros as a pitcher. But his calling was to be a pastor. Instead of using his potential to make milions in the big leagues, hes a youth pastor right now in a small church in Texas. He says he would never of chosen differently
@stillonparolee I have the potential to be President of the United States of America. Every natural born citizen does. But there will not be 300 million presidents of the US. I can do basic woodworking, car maintenance, painting, and such. But I am not called to be a cabinet makers, mechanic, or a home decorator. Your reasoning is so flawed its beyond reckoning.
Too many Christians were lazy & disobedient to God. Teach people to work and obey. Then they can pursue the calling given them.
@stillonparolee Johnny Diaz, Christian artist, and his brother player baseball as kids and in college. Both are great enough to play in the Majors. His brother does. He sings. His brother reports that Johnny is better at baseball than he is, yet he is successful in the Christian music industry, and felt called to it.

Jesus used his calling to increase our potential to follow him he used his calling to increase the potential of the church and our faith

@37enjoylife Your wording assumes that people don't enjoy life by pursuing their calling. That is false.

@stillonparolee A person's potential is what a person can possibly accomplish realistically.
God's calling is what a person could not possibly accomplish realistically, and it's always better.
