  • @Asofiro FAG

  • @Asofiro are you gay?

  • i still think the gilmour stuff is way better than sid or waters ever came up with....

  • @SpikeyBoy25 yeah hes ok

  • @SpikeyBoy25 i would have to agree, but when gilmour was around they were more into meaningful lyrics, however with syd (at least very early on) you hear him say in an interview it's just dance along music.

  • fucking awesome jam.

  • Floyd was great with and without barrett. Even after he left he forever left an influence on the band, a lot of their songs are about him. After gates of dawn he was to crazy to live a normal life

  • @TheTarrMan Man... BEST FUCKING COMMENT EVER! :D

  • @gcdc14 I think Syd is overrated, absolutely overrated, and I don't understand people like you who put down the "post Barrett" Floyd as something they should have to apologize for. IMHO that's sentimental rubbish, but to each their own. Let's just say I beg to differ, stridently. Having said that, let's all enjoy the fact that we have all this music to choose from. Thank you, musicians everywhere!

  • @videotater

I like both of them personally

  • @videotater I agree with you. I like listening to the old Syd floyd, especially songs like this one and Astronomy Domine, but the floyd of the 1970's are a much better and more musical band. I think one reason for this is that they were really just kids when this first album came out. It took a little while for them to build up their chops and develop the polished "Dark Side" and "Animals" sound that they are known for. Syd Barrett floyd is great for what it is, but it's not their best work.

  • am I the only one who thinks Syd was hot as hell?

  • @standingonaspaceship

    Yup; probably.

    -

  • @standingonaspaceship your not the only one, trust :P

  • @faltrekka :D

  • @faltrekka ...truuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuust.... just.... truuuuuuuust

  • Can you imagine Roger wearing a fur coat today? That would be great.

  • This just simply blows the fucking mind.

    M.K.

  • This is alien music. Are you an alien?

  • @dirtynuke i am..this music is unbelievable...the were young cats having fun..isnt that what the whole reason of playing music is to have fun and feel it?..this music the the glue of the generation

  • @dirtynuke maybe in one of my past lives....

  • It really makes my day, looooove that raw intro:-]

  • OH YES, finally I found the tab of intro which I can play despite my shitty guitar playing.

  • When this song was recorded, at the very end Syd started playing with the sound,in the studio He experimented by moving the sound on the board from left to right giving it a spacey sound.and it worked. One of the first great headphone sounds.

  • Not really that big of a fan of "Piper at the Gates of Dawn," but this song is bloody brilliant. Nice.

  • don't follow me,but spy me and hide in the shadows

  • it took me 1 and a half seconds to hear this was machine gun Hendrix

  • OMG.!!!

    TRANCE IN 8:30 TO END

  • Syd was great ~ could even make a pyschedelic space rock track based on the theme music for Steptoe and Son (rag and bone merchants)

  • Sid Barrett was out of his head .....God Bless Him

  • man this sound demonic ...

  • interstellar od (syd) and 3rd stone from the sun (hendrix) were the 2 scientific space explorations when the acid-waves took over the amps - hail atlantis!

  • niceeeeeeeeeeeee !!! kajkajka lml

  • Never forget Barrett!

  • how young they are

  • A Salvation army freak-out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • its better than much other musik in the european history.

    it hits!!!!

  • Holy HOT ROD crap Batman! Where's my Munstermobile and martini with a hash cookie a la carte!

  • @ajb15002 LOVE IT

  • \>.</

  • Pink Floyd without Syd, it's like wine without alcohol.

  • one of my favorite albums ever ;)

  • This song, like most songs on "Piper at the Gates of Dawn", have a combination of psychedelic and progressive elements. Pink Floyd became fully 'progressive' when they recorded their 'Meddle' album. Great song!

  • i realy thing that piper at the gates of dawn is the best thing pink floyd made.....but all the other stuff is great two

  • Gorgeous, infinite, dissonant, beautiful melodies!

  • Oh yeah I forgot to mention... I'm 29

  • Oh I forgot to mention I've never done lsd... but I did do shrooms and this song was just as good... last time I heard which was like.... 8 years ago Oh yeah... It's also about getting high in your room in the 60's and staring at the lava lamp... which was brand new back then... all night. And being like... whoa....

  • It's a song about being on lsd and having this intergallactic traveling experience.

  • barrett, dylan, lennon best writers ever

  • @taylorjaybass and Bowie!!!

  • @taylorjaybass You forget Lou Reed, and Lennon was shit...

  • @Vesters1 lennon shit ha not in my world he isnt

  • @taylorjaybass just not a big poet, a great musician and componist though

  • @Vesters1 What Lennon... not a poet! You're crazy! The psycadelic gems, A Day In The Life, Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, Strawberry Fields Forever, the rawness of the Primal Scream album, and how Imagine is about the most punk in your face fuck you type of lyrics sung about religion and anarchy in a pop song with a piano (which really is the beauty of the song in my opinion).

  • @Vesters1 Well if Lou Reed,John Lennon, and Bowie are shit, name five bands or solo artists that you think are good and everyone will judge you're decision.

  • @STRATCAT101 Well i said that he "forgot" Lou Reed as one of the best writers next to Barrett, Dylan and Bowie. The only thing I said is that Lennon is not a good lyrics writer and that his main force is his compositions. If you're asking about other great lyricists I would say Nick Cave and Leonard Cohen.

  • @Vesters1 If you think Lennon is not a good lyricist, read the lyrics to Working Class Hero. Mindblowing.

  • @taylorjaybass

As much as I like Syd Barrett, that's a little ridiculous. I'd put Waters, Townshend, McCartney, Fogerty (extremely underrated) up there above him, and I'm sure there are others. He is great, though.

  • @Gridz21 in my opinion i shld of put i think dylan, barrett, lennon best songwrites....but i agree there is a load more probably better then syd, i jst like his style and all them who u said 2

  • @taylorjaybass

I have to agree but i would add Ian Curtis (even though he's so different from the others) and Ray Davies (I simply love his style).

Barrett, Dylan and Lennon are my top 3 though.

  • @taylorjaybass roger waters is better writer than syd barrett (if we are talking about lyrics)

  • @taylorjaybass

Don't forget Jim Morrison too :D

  • @taylorjaybass

2/3 are dead.. hate to break it to ya...

  • @rushpython100 You're a douche!

  • @taylorjaybass amen brother...

  • @taylorjaybass

    Waters: much better

  • @stevexiii Yes, Waters was much better at producing lyrics and songs suitable for the radio and that's about it. The band was much more progressive, expressive, innovative, and connotative with Syd running the show. And the only good post Barrett album produced, Dark Side of the Moon, seems to borrow much from Syd himself.

  • @gcdc14 In my opinion, almost everything about your comment is complete rubbish. And it's not that I disagree with your opinion (though I do), it's the complete narcissism and misinterpretation that makes it rubbish. When Syd left, Pink Floyd made songs that were 18 minutes plus, used all manner of innovative studio and playing techniques, expanded their sound ever more, and had remarkably deep and relevant lyrics. How is that not progressive, expressive, innovative, and connotative?

  • @taylorjaybass wat bout morrision hendrix and grace slick man

  • @taylorjaybass so fucking true dude, its cause of the acid.

  • @bubmaterial You don't have to be on acid to be a good writer. Besides; look at what happened to Barrett after using so many drugs for such a long time.

  • @thewriter1008 he already had a pre-existing condition.

  • the most incredible band that has ever been. Syd was the most brilliant, original writer that music has ever seen. They are amazing. There aren't really any words that could show that amazingness well. Floyd are the base of most great music, music would not be what it is without them. The shit they play on the radio nowadays isn't music, THIS is music.

And come on, you can't get much sexier than Syd can you?? x

  • @TheCatCanDance im a guy so dont take this as a sign ofbeing gay but you really cant get much sexier than syd in all honesty.

  • @andrew19vato haha, it's the truth :P

  • Insanely Progressive! These guys were so far ahead of their time it was ridiculous!

  • Some amazing shit right fucking here!!!

    M.K.

  • I blame Richard Wright for the British Petrolium Oil Spill in the Gulf of Mexico.

I blame the Pelican. I am the Walrus Egg.

  • @ePhilosopher9 Um...Ok...why do you blame the great pianist/keyboardist, Rick Wright?(Who also died!)

  • right i know i'm not really here but the music sounds like its being played backwards ....

is it just me . ?

nod if you can here me ..

  • @whorlicks actually, it's finally soundimng Wright, as it should sound, for now time is catching up to us, and we are catching up to time, a loosened string.

  • @whorlicks yes i see what u mean

  • Nothing like being fried on acid and listening to this song between a pair of large speakers. It's mind-blowing when they start moving the music around in stereo toward the end.

  • THE WALL OTTAWA SCOTIABANK PLACE :D

  • @kanzosupremo For me, Nassau Coliseum, Uniondale, NY! Enjoy the show! I know I will!

  • @nbafreak41 Unfortunatly, im not going, (SOLD OUT) but i will watch it on tv

  • @kanzosupremo AWWW!!!!!!!! THAT SUCKS!!!! You guys are quite the fans! Rock on Ottawa!

  • @nbafreak41 Ya im missing two great concerts comine to ottawa and montreal!!

Paul McCartney in montreal august 8th, (sold out) and The Wall (Roger Waters) SOLD OUT!!!

+ my parents wouldnt pay for tickets

  • geniuses are the edge of insanity

  • Syd Baret was so awesome, I love the part near the end when the first riff is alternating from left to right, and etc... so awesome, but I bet the mono version is better!

  • @kanzosupremo im confused, why would the mono version be better? im only used to stereo being a guy of 19 ;)

  • @robslater90 Well, me to, being born in 1995, but (I cant explain it, its like when you listen to Sgt. Peppers (the beatles) in stereo, it's pretty awesome, but when you listen to it in mono, it kicks stereo's ass) LOL!

  • Yeah! This was the main ride on "The Piper At The Gates of Dawn" and the greatest psychedelic song ever written.

  • Thx blestemp, great job on sessionology :)

  • GODS

  • The opening riff sounds like the Steptoe theme.

    Still brilliant though.

  • this is amazing!!

  • Pink Floyd wrote "Dogs".

  • Pink Floyd designed, named and scripted the genetical codes of every living organism that has ever existed on this planet. In other words, Pink Floyd are Gods.

  • HOLLY SHIT :D

  • wow i'm loving this song

  • DAMN! The fabulous 60's for suire!!!

Thanks @215renaissanceman for blowing my mind here! "wink"

Thank you blestemp for a great post!

  • furcolow, u crazzzzzy, so do u think the wall is a mediocre album. please if u say so u don't know much about music, i really hate another fuckin' brick in the wall and maybe another song but, the rest of the allbum is just amazin' and animals is not great but it has sheep which save the whole album, anyway 4 me the best so far is DARK SIDE OF THE MOON!!!!!!! by the way i hate money.

  • the only part i really like about this song is the opening, a song could easily be made out of the opening riffs, and id bet it be great

  • GOD blees the madness, como sea lastima q se halla perdido una mente tan espelusnantemente bella!!!!!

  • raw and real,

  • great sound they had

    amazing

    this piece is still futuristic

  • i luv this song before david gilmore

  • One of my al time fav songs..

  • Man the ending just blows your freaking mind, with the balance thing,

  • @McCFred

yeah if you were high (probably the whole reason it was done). I find it annoying.

  • Love Waters' bass playing on this tune.

  • as far as i'm concerned, syd went 2/2 for good CDs. David GIlmour went back to back with 2 with dark side and wish you were here, but the other "notable" cds like animals or the wall are mediocre to me.

i'll take 2/2 or 1.5/2 as i guess he only did half of the 2nd one as opposed to gilmour pissin around with like around 6 sucky ass cds like obscured by clouds.

  • @furcolow i agree, except with the animals album being mediocre.. they're... yeah. you're right. they didnt work on them much. but they have pretty cool songs

  • Fuck craftsmanship...this is what guitar work is all about.

  • mui mui bna rolaaa

  • "The music sounds loud". Funny interview. Pink Floyd rules.

  • id have loved to be 19 in 1967! great music all around me and no nobs in hi-vis vests saying you cant do that!!

unfortunatly i was 19 in 1998 and i have to obey the hi-vis brigade and fill in paperwork before i can start thinking about my daily targets!

  • the piper at the gates of dawn was their best album ever

  • all of the albums pink floyd did after this til animals is about syd barrett. so pray to him.

  • @ickmahd

One could even argue that The Wall was about Syd Barrett. I don't think Meddle, Atom Heart Mother, or Ummagumma were about him though.

  • A true, timeless classic. I get flashbacks listening to it. IO will be forever woven into my consciousness, ocassionally bumping up against Saucer Full of Secrets!

  • Pink Floyd was know mostly for Dark Side and the Wall. Without Syd, there wouldn't have been Pink Floyd at all. We love you Syd. RIP.

  • true psychedelic rock....not the lame stuff we americans tried to do ;D

  • i love pink floyd from sicily.....

  • Damn, Syd was a genius... I mean Roger Waters and David Gilmour made brilliant, brilliant stuff after Syd's departure, but it would have been awesome to have Syd in the mix with Dark Side of the Moon, The Wall, Animals etc.

  • How right you are. What a shame for a musical mind like his to just go completely nuts. What a shame and waste,,,,,,

  • Syd Barrett= genius

This song is constantly bouncing around at the back of my mind., esp around 7:44 <3

  • Acid isnt for everyone.

  • Opps i mean: Did he stay home his whole life. sorry about the mistake in my previous post

  • what did happen to syd after he turned crazy? Did he stay at home his whole did? Anyone knows what he really did?

  • @krollaostmedburger He did make two solo albums. Then one day he walked back home to his Mom's house in Cambridge (all the way from London) and he stayed there for the rest of his life. He gardened, cared for his cats, did do-it-yourself projects around the house and painted pictures. He preferred to avoid all human contact other than his Mom and his sister. He died form pancreatic cancer in July of 2006.

  • Thank you that exactly what I thougth. But how did he earn money and stuffs?

  • He had lots of money coming in from royalties for his musical work, and I'm sure too that his family made sure that he had what he neede financially and otherwise, His sister said that whenever anyone mentioned Pink Floyd to him he got very upset and agitated and would be depressed for weeks after that. Very sad. He had so much to deal with emotionally and mentally!

  • @tedhead60 i understand him

  • is it just me but this song reminds me of astronomy domine too?

  • check out voivod's version

  • this song is still heavy today...and i listen to Grind! ha ha

  • this song will be heavy forever. (and ever, amen)

  • @maxeypad the alice in chains song 'Grind" is better than your precious grind music, whatever the hell that is.
