  • why don't play bass?

  • Sounds awesome, may I know how much of overdrive level & limiter level you've used for this? thx.

  • this is a demo of ability of a player, not a bass and pick-up! good you may be, but I was hoping to hear variations with tone pot etc.

  • 're like Yngwie Malmsteen but with a bass

  • O_O...do you have a cousin named Billy?

  • I came to investigating dimarzio split p pickups for my fender...

  • at about 1:50 is where my mind really got blown...you are very talented I would like to see some videos of you with a band hope there's some on your channel :)

  • what form of EQing do you use? like semi parametric, graphic, standard L LM HM H? Im a start out bassist and Im becoming a bit of a virtuoso playing and a sound freek, really like your clarity!

  • @SpearShark what is your problem?

  • Why is this video so hazey? Oh wait! Must be from the smoke coming from your fingers blazing the frets. My bad...

  • I love your tone. I see your bass has just the Split-P pickup. Do you find that you can get most of the Billy Sheehan tone using just the Split-P without needing to add the neck/woofer pickup?

  • @MajorImpact "THE" Billy Sheehan tone is built using lots of little parts, including the model P/Model One combination, and the Dinky Alder body and Hefty Maple neck combined with his Mids EQ, the Model P sounds closer to the Billy Sheehan tone to my ears! (My experience comes from being a long time Billy Sheehan fan, Dimarzio user, and Yamaha Attitude owner! And seen billy play live many times!)

  • can u put those pic ups on a b.c. rich mockingbird?

mine has four split coils though

  • Are you Anders Breivik?

  • awesome playing man.

  • What strings do you use? You sound more Sheehan than Billy himself.

  • What strings do you use?

  • What genre are you actually into?

  • @metalballs2010 I am into rock,metal,blues and funk with a preference for rock. :-)

  • @haagholm Wow, you played a lot of stuffs! Do you play Death Metal? I think that genre is the perfect match for you aside from Hard Rock or Classic Metal or whatever genre that Billy Sheehan goes into, and you look a little like a Death Metal musicians too, in my opinion

  • ... holy shit.. i think i just crapped my pants. dude!! you're amazing!!

  • Haven't never seen so good bass improvisation! You natural man! Awesome!

  • inSANE!!!!!

  • Somebody likes Billy Sheehan...

  • i thought billy sheehan played yamaha basses XD

  • wow!

  • mejor cómprate una guitarra.... sólo te faltó tocar ese bajo con unas baquetas...

  • wow. that was nice. id love to hear it clean.

  • could you put a set of dimarzios on an ibanez?

  • i was waiting for the strings to burst into flames.

  • Do you use 250kohm pots? What about your capacitor?

  • hi , the pick up is a dp 127 split p di marzio?because i would like buy one!!

  • @skizo81 It is indeed :-)

  • @haagholm ok I will take that pick up! the cabinet that uses is a Henry or a senior swr?

  • I am learning bass at the moment. I have a Stagg bass, been playing it for around 7 months. I've been thinking about getting a Squier. I know they get a bad rap sometimes, but I played one and loved it. Plus being left handed means I don't have a whole lot of choice. So, should I get the Squier, or are there others that I should look at first? Either way the Stagg is going: by far the worst bass I've ever seen, even the wiring job was a total botch. Please reply.

  • Holy shit. Your the fastest muthafucker bassist I've ever seen!

  • someone loves billy sheehan!

  • this guy's girl must be a very happy woman

  • this is a precision bass fender 1978??

  • Is the distortion from the preamp alone or are you running something else?

  • The distortion comes from the preamp alone. It is an ampeg SVP-BSP preamp

  • Hi man,

what compressor and distortion are you using?

    Thanks!

  • I love your hair; I wish I could have my hair hide my face when I play; makes you more mythical seeming; as nerdy as this all just sounded.

    And this sounds amazing.

  • yeah, i think this guy went out of his way to set all his gear up and dig deep on the bass so you could come on and discuss his hair. why don't you ask him what brand of conditioner he uses? its the burning question on everybody elses lips i'm certain.

  • @raton6970 I'm sorry I'm more impressed with the hair then the standard Sheehan sound. His playing is really good; it's just nothing new or worth asking about. Mr. Sarcasm, lol.

  • don't be sorry mr PLarkin. i quite agree. someone sent me the vid. impressive disciplined playing but yeah i prefer melodic interesting basslines than 5 mins of musical wanking if i'm honest. i really would like to know more about his hair care though......

  • @raton6970 well.. he did pull some John Entwistle. lolololololol

  • monster!!!

  • yess!!! SWR!! strongest name in amps

  • OMG

  • Sounds very Sheehan...awesome playing

  • hey! Thats awsome!!

I am thinking that weather i will put a dimarzio dp122 to replace the original pickup on my american standard fender precision or not ....

what do you think?? which tone do you think is better??

  • Dude! your amazing!

how long have you been playing?

I hope i'm as good as you someday!

I'm only 16 so there is hope!

  • It reminds me more of Entwistle rather than Sheehan (not only because of WGFA excerpt, but also hand position and stuff), but they both ftw and so do U ^^

  • OMG ITS BILLY SHEEHAN!

  • DUDE!!!

  • You really are a skilled bass player, every time I feel too lazy for practice, I take a look at this video and it gets me pumped up. By the way, I've been wondering how the DiMarzio Split P DP127 sounds and now I know; thanks for the inspiration man. Do you have a myspace site where I can hear songs made by you?

  • BTW loving the tap around 1 minute

    sounds amazing!

  • WTF???

Dont you think i know what pickup i put in there?? By the way i replaced the pickupcovers so the rails are not visible anymore.

  • i have two P-basses one with a model P and one with a split P

This sounds very different to my split P, but identical to my model P i also have an Attitude LTD II which has a split will power based on the Model P which sounds very like this also

  • The sound is captured with a poor cameramike and i use a lot off compression and distortion....The sound is indeed very different from a Model P or a Willpower P...but it still has that special p bass sound...just a "twisted" version of it :-) It almost sound as two pickups at once...strange !!! Dimarzio kicks ass,by the way !!

  • either way the sound truely is great and you are a truely great player! i hope to be as good as you some day!

i can't believe you had/have an Ampeg SVT-BSP! your lucky!

does it have a power amp in it?

    Regards

    Adam

  • thats a model P not split P

    Split P's sound way differnt

  • Billy Sheehan² ?^^

    Nice!

  • pino palladino custom shop....:-)

  • Dude !!!

I have been playing bass for over 30 years, and that was AWESOME !!

    Keep it up !!

I got an american P-Bass with the same pickups.. They are incredible.

  • you like Billy Sheehan

  • Very nice playing mate! seriously good!

  • can you told me what gear are you using for this vid please ? ( years of your Pbass, what compressor, disto, and picup on your bass )

    Sorry for my english.

  • So good, it pissed me off.

  • lol he looks older than Billy Sheehan lol, hes a "wana be billy"

  • This guy is clearly a student of Billy Sheehan

  • Could you please explain to me how you produce those awesome high pitched chimes at 1:50? I'm gonna guess it has something to do with harmonics. Thanks!

  • I'm just doing hammer ons with my left hand and letting my right hand rub lightly against the string as i move it..The distortion and compression helps to bring the harmonics out.

  • I like how Zerro7 has some higher vision that music has a certain format, WTF ?

  • uten tvil Mosjøens beste bassist....men det e jo ikke så om å gjær egentlig :) hehe...All Hails

  • It is hard to play rhythm, buddy ;)

  • duh he can play very good....

this man can play all songs of you want

  • Ah, the words of a technique threatened guitarist.

  • good......lord. this rips so hard.

  • your fingers are like fucking sausages

  • fast sausages...^^

  • ULTRA-FUCKING-SIIIIICK!! Congratulations! Level-up!

  • question might be dumb but are the pick ups the dimarzio DP127 split p? I'm not if there are different dimarzio split p pick ups.. .

  • It is a Dimarzio Split P DP127. I have replaced the original pickup-covers with enclosed ones

  • great man, great sound=billy sheehan sound,i like this sound,i have a yamaha attitude and preamp svp bsp with phonic power amp.now i will buy phonic 6500 compressor.thank you for the good information.billy rulez xD.sorry for my bad english language but i'm italian xD.

  • you got it all as Billy even his lack of modes' knowledge.

the Who and Talas experts were great.

but again the whole thing is perfect.

    cool rig

  • You are without a doubt Billy Sheehan's disciple. not too shaby ;)

  • Perfect man!!!!!!! 5/5

  • Quality sound.

All that's missing is the neck bends haha!

How far can you go? :-D

  • lol Billy Sheehan

  • your solo stuff reminded me of billy sheehan

  • wow 1:05 - 1:09 was beautifull

  • Mamón.

  • awesome... so wish i could play like this .. hope in a few yrs i guess ;)

  • Stellar playing and tone.

Now, about that tone....aside from the Dimarzio pickup, what's going on? Compression? EQ? Amps?

  • I am using a dualband compressor that allows more limiting on the high band than on the low band.I am also using a Ampeg svp bsp preamp with mids on full.High and Low set at 12o'clock.

  • NOICE! You just made up my mind in investing on this pickup. Great fuckin' playing!

  • thanks

  • very cool!!!

  • That's really great! i love it!

  • You the man, mean tone and playing.

  • Thanks !!

  • rock on gomme!

  • Nice playing! Just another proof that it doesn't have to be a Yamaha Attitude to get that signature Billy Sheehan tone. BTW, is that an American, Mexican or Japanese Precision?

  • Thanks!!

The bass is an American P bass 2006 model with the s-1 switch.

  • Great playing.

Do you get a lot of buzzing from that low action?

  • aah..I actually have a split P. pickup..unopened for a year...now i know what it sounds like lol. (i currently have a PJ with Ultra Jazz in the neck and model P.)

  • Very nice Sheehan style playing & sound. I was wondering about your string gauge and how your action and relief is set. You seem to have a very light touch so I assume low action but I didn't hear a single click or buzz.

  • Thanks! The action is pretty low but i want to be able to whack the bass really hard without causing to much buzz or click. The neck is almost completely straight.my touch is actually quite heavy although it dont look like it.The string gauge is 45-105

  • Very nice playing and tone. What pickups are in that P? It sounds great. Lots of mids. How did you go about learning to play with 3 (or is it 4) fingers on the right hand?

  • Thank you

The pickup is a Dimarzio Split P that is modified with closed pickup covers.

The 3 finger approach comes from Billy Sheehan. The video "Billy Sheehan On Bass" demonstrates it in detail and i can highly recommend it
