Mignola's style was infamous not just for its reductive simplicity but for the way his characters are all quite bulky and unattractive - Hellboy is drawn with a deliberately huge chest and diminutive legs, somewhat like a bear.

this movie is based off of the legend of the blood countess, a transelvanien counts wife who believed that if she bathed in the blood of young women that she would intern be young. Atlantis referenced Mike Mignola's style and brought him on board for the movie. It's not really kiddish, having just watched Sword of Storms. It's just as accessible as the movie and can be compared to the content of the live action film.

The creator authorized every second of it and is happy with it.

Mike Mignola wants every incarnation of Hellboy to be different. The graphic novel is different from the movie and the cartoon. that's how he has said he wants it.
