  • the only thing i don't like is that hellboy's legs are far smaller than the rest of him

  • @DarkSignal59 It's actually being true to Mignola's original portrayal of HB. Mignola's style was infamous not just for its reductive simplicity but for the way his characters are all quite bulky and unattractive - Hellboy is drawn with a deliberately huge chest and diminutive legs, somewhat like a bear.

  • @Envisionation

May I need to remind you that that's how he was drawn in the comic books (not

    the really old ones)

  • @MSKDwriter That's what I was saying?

  • I liked this. It was way better than sword of storms.

  • True fact overall most manga artist at least famous one's were inspired by the HellBoy Comic Book creator of Full Metal Alchemist and Yu-Gi-Oh included.

  • they should make a animated series from this hellboy is my second hero

    batman being number 1 ofcourse

  • @mina319 funny those are mine 2

  • Gotta love that Hellboy.

  • @ExilLarkdanx

    Uh?

Well... the werewolf extracted power from the moon. Moon is connected to Hecate. The vampire was Hecate's priestess!

These whole werewolf vs vampire crap is rather new... Actually, several myths HAVE werewolves serving vampires or becoming vampires after they died.

  • Hellboy isn't the same without Ron Perlman's voice.

  • @KyodaiKen1979 XD Did you watch the clip? It says Ron Perlman.

  • i watch this show at truebloodvideo . info

  • The animation feels like cheaper afternoon American cartoons I used to watch as a kid. Doesn't do the comic justice.

  • Having bought this for a pound yesturday, Im suprised at the great quality of the film. Around an hour and 20 minutes long, with a small "comic/graphic novel" included. For any Americans reading this, £1 is mega cheap over here. Any xbox game costs roughly £35. So you do the maths.

  • I actually enjoyed the animation in this film, you guys are just being nitpicky.

  • i like how its all the same cast as the live action one.

  • Comment removed

  • @roseswindler doesn't sound like Doug Jone's voice as Abe Sapien, though... uh-uh...

  • I remember watching the sword hellboy movie, but not thi one. Does anybody know where I can get these movies? Can you get them on DVD?

  • yes u can get them on dvd,go on amazon

  • If you like Hellboy, you'll LOVE this animation.

  • I'm not so sure. I like Hellboy because for its beautiful starkness. The depth, the overabudance of black.

That stylism isn't represented in this cartoon, but it is present in the Mignola cartoon "The Amazing Screw-on Head".

  • i completely agree. his style just isn't shown in this, but the screw on head animated feature looks great.

  • You guys complaining about the style are fucking stupid.

  • I disagree. Hellboy's soul is in that stylism, and this looks so... generic.

It'd be like having a Johnny the Homicidal Maniac cartoon where all the character art was done by Jim Davis.

  • Nobody can play Hellboy quite like Ron Perlman, which makes him the ideal voice for this movie.

  • is it just me or are red's legs waaaaay too short?

  • They kind of look like that in the comic.

  • the animated series is sooooo bad x)i mean its not terrible but..i wouldn't pay any money for a DVD of it.

  • didnt mike mignola work on Atlantis: lost empire?

  • looks like it.

  • i have it its good and cheap

  • Doesn't look that bad to me, but if you're going to pay the A-list actors to supply the voices, it'd make sense to make the drawings look like them too. The cartoon Liz looks nothing like Selma Blair.

  • no no no...they all look totally drawn wrong!

looks like disney threw up and this came out. good ideas, but animation. abe looks like some iguanna and liz's hair and face are messed up..hellboy where are your pupils???

  • i agree with you, they totally got it wrong

  • Someone hasn't read the comics.

  • I liked the idea of animated Hellboy series. But having watched the two films, I was disappointed. Crude graphics, template Disney-esque faces of characters. The producers should have invited the Japanese to make "Hellboy Animated".

  • this looks...crappy

  • Is Guillermo Del Toro related to Benicio Del Toro, or is it like Smith where they're from?

  • John Hurt was in Alien.

  • I like Hellboy better in live action movies, I hate that his legs are so skinny in the cartoons.

  • i know i like the live action ones too he looks dumb in the animated movies

  • Hellboy is such a nice and cool, dare I say it, even Jesus might share beer with him

  • well! i understand really well!

i like your way man! other just got crazy and insult! i mean i like hell boy! maybe i need to see this movie and give a opinion after ! anyway tha american standard animation make me loose the focus!

    peace out!

  • if ur gonna watch a hellboy film watch the live action ones

  • out of my top ten favorite super heros hellboy is number proably 1st or second favorite

  • this movie is based off of the legend of the blood countess, a transelvanien counts wife who believed that if she bathed in the blood of young women that she would intern be young. So she tortured and killed young gipsee (not sure if I spelled that right) women and drained their blood. Creepy shit huh?

  • gypsy :D

  • yeah that is creepy but then again its hellboy

  • i like hell boy! but! animation is for japanese creators! american draws are borings! it is just a opinion!

  • well i know its an opinion but there are artist out here in america like me and others who have amazing images and imagination the thing is no one in america wants to see an animated movie unless its computer generated the trend of animated cartoon movies ended when the first mulan was out so nwo the only time you see animated cartoon movies is when there tv movies so yeah but hellboy does kick ass

  • (@leftralo) That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard, I don't care if that's just your opinion.

  • Japanese cartoons made for theater are actualy the best. You're talking about a part of the TV mass production. Ponyo got more action and movement than every american cartoons. And best american cartoons are not well known from american cause the prefere stupid entertainement. Go wach Pliympton or Ghibli works and shut up.

  • "Pliympton"?

  • Whouch, I was furious on this one...

I was talking about Bill Plympton. Matt Groening does a great work too and he's recognized. There can be art on TV screen too and in both country. Kogepan anime is great too on its way. Animated cartoon doesn't implies movement. Blockbuster on one hand, art on the other. Blame! "animated art" is really good with few things moving only.

  • exceptional made for tv movie

  • 'Over here ugly'

    ...

    'We are gods of darkness.'

    'Out of my WAY!'

    lol XD

  • cool... but the comics are unarrivable

  • why are his legs toothpicks?

  • Because it's truer to the comic book then the movie version

  • bwaaahahah ah look at hes legs! theyr so smale!!! :D !!

  • not bad

  • I watched it very good

  • was never able to see whole movie 1

  • Is that like an animated movie?

  • I want another LIVE ACTION Hellboy movie!

  • Don't worry dude, within a year "Hellboy 2: The Golden Army" is coming out =D

  • OMG yeah I just found that out like right after I wrote that.-lol- I can't wait!

  • You will in 2008

  • it's awesome one of the best character design i ever seen

  • I saw this move and it was awesome! XD

  • This is on tonight, I can't wait to see it.

    -Jake

  • it was awsome eh

  • sean galloway made a wonderful art work on hellboy animation. very good

  • just ridiculous

  • i haven't watched the movie yet, but yesterday i was watching HBO and i happen to watch one episode of this, it was about a Katana with the Storm spirits sealed in the blade, i really liked it, it wasn't wow, but it was good, i liked Hellboy's attitude

  • thats hellboy sword of the storms

  • I liked the movie better than this animated stuff.

  • This is even worse than the Ultimate Avengers abominations.

  • hey i made a hellboy music video. check it out! i hope you;ll like it!

  • i like hellboy, but the animated version sucks ass!!i saw it last day on cartoon network and wow!!!it was really crappy!!!!!!

  • everyone complains about the animation cause its not like the book the fact is in contract it say the animation cannot be like Mike Mignoal's work there very good though and the end of the credits of blood and iron you could see lobster kick ass.

  • Looks like crap. Nothing compared to the comic drawn by Mike Mignola

  • How about actually watching Sword of Storms before making such a sweeping judgment? Know what else is crap? Purist fanboi's that have closed minds to advancing a character through other mediums.

  • You do know about Mike Mignola being part of the team behind this animated hellboy deal

  • They did'nty exactly go out and decide to make hellboy animated without his approval

  • it was in the contract that they were NOT allowed to make it look like the comic. the creator of the animated series wanted to make it just like mike's work, but wasn't allowed to.

  • it doesn't matter that Mike Mignola approved of it. He approved of the movie aswell and that sucks too. I guess he's too good for his judgement to keep up. And seriously, why would i need to watch an entire cartoon to see that it's crappy drawn? Half the pleasure of Hellboy are the wonderful drawings and they clearly lack here unless they really tried making the trailer look as crappy as possible.

  • have you even seenany of the animated movies? lots of the stories were almost exact adaptions of the stories in the comics they were based off of. and lots of people liked the movie.

  • the creators of this series wanted to make it look EXACTLY like the comics and mike's work, but the contract stated that they were NOT allowed to.

  • so you say. I don't see the relevance. I did not like the movie and I did not like the way these cartoons look from what little i've seen. I doubt i will be positively surprised if i watch them in their entirety. And if they're exact adaptations of the comics, why not just read the comics?

  • well why not just read harry potter or read spider-man or read sin city or read 300 or read the ultimates(ultimate avengers)? not sure why, but it's probably the same reason for all of those. and some people like these animated movies and the real one, some people don't. same with all movies.

  • the difference is, some of the movie adaptations of those comics might be good, as opposed to the Hellboy movie and some of those comics might not kick ass, as opposed to the Hellboy comics. What i'm saying is, why would i want to watch cartoons that look worse than the comics if it's basically the same story?

  • that sounds stupid. The reason I won't see these cartoons is because they look nothing like the comic, they look like your usually cheap cartoons on tv.

  • That's because they weren't ALLOWED to make it the same. They wanted to make the characters just like they were in the comics, but nooooo... Mike didn't want that -.-

  • star waras clone wars had pretty bad drawings an it was stillg ood clonewars and hellboy animated r both drawn by cartoon network

  • to tell you the truth i love the comics

but now that they have added a voice to hellboy with the movie and such it has ruined my image of how hellboy talked

    still though, ill watch it

  • I saw "Sword of The Storms". I really enjoyed it. Hopefully this one will be as good.

  • the animated hellboy sucks balls and that is why it would be rated pg-13 if it was a movie. lol

  • Is Hellboy fat?

  • it is just another adventure...i mean , it is not a adaptation of comic adventure?

  • Looks to be an adaptation of one of the Hellboy series, Wake the Devil.

  • despierta al demonio?

  • Si.

  • Whys his legs so tiny damn!!!!He look sum hobo!!!

  • Why do they never get Liz Sherman right?

She is supposed to have been born in 1962, that makes her 45 yet in this she looks about 18.

  • vampire?

  • What's up with HB's tiny legs?

  • Because that's how his legs are supposed to damn well be! lol, It's a reference to the original comic book series

  • They aren't nearly that scrawny in the comics. I mean, look at them, they're ridiculous. I don't see why they couldn't pattern the animation more after the comics.

  • yeah really?

  • nice! does anyone know how many of these animated adventures are going to be done?

  • who cares how it looks? it could be worse, but hey, do you play video games for their graphics alone?

but yeah, the comic shadowing is much better

  • i agree, i hate this style of animation.

  • Atlantis referenced Mike Mignola's style and brought him on board for the movie. It's not really kiddish, having just watched Sword of Storms. It's just as accessible as the movie and can be compared to the content of the live action film.

The creator authorized every second of it and is happy with it.

Mike Mignola wants every incarnation of Hellboy to be different. The graphic novel is different from the movie and the cartoon. that's how he has said he wants it.

  • Just because it looks like Atlantis or something doesn't mean it won't be good. Too bad its not Screw-on Head animated style, though. Anyway. Lets wait and see if the story is up to par before the bashing begins, kay?

  • This looks cool!

Don't know about the rest of you guys, but I wanna see this! I loved the first one, too, let's hope this'll be just as good.

  • This looks crappy ... I'm so tired of this animation style.

  • it's still good to see, looking forward to it.

  • I´m fan of Hellboy comics and Hellboy movie, but this looks poor.

  • Hellboy is definitly one of best comic book characters out there. Dudes hate on RED cuz they dont know how to read. lol

  • Liked the first animi, looking forward to the 2nd!

  • What do you expect? Anime?

  • I love HB, and the cast and writers are great, but this just looks too Saturday Morning for me. Like GI Joe, but smoother.

Also: those character designs do nothing for me. I hate the little tea set legs the gave HB.

  • the animation style reminds me of "the batman"

  • Looks as bad as the first. yawn. hellboys overrated.

  • I agree. Looks too childish.

  • Maybe because its meant for kids

  • you read the comics man? its not meant for kids

  • Of course you tard Ive read the comics.

This cartoon is meant for the kids

Hint cartoon network. It be better if they had it on adultswim but its not

  • and thats why people are saying its too childish, cause its not staying trew to the source material. hense the comment "too childish". its like if they made a cartoon of darknight returns and then kiddied it up but still called it darknight returns. it would therefore be, too childish

  • So what if it doesnt stay true to the source material. Batman Begins, X-men movies and Spider-man movies havent.

Point being its made for the younger audience.

The cartoons for the younger comic fans and the movies for the more mature fans

  • what the hell are you talking about man. spiderman, batman and xmen have all been based there 60 years of history. hellboy doesnt have that varity of source material. thats why i used the darknight returns as an example cause its more defined. and all those mentioned movies are orriented towards a teenage audience seeing as statistically speaking they are the majority of movie goers. think before you write

  • U really backed up ur statments, well said Timtown07, well said indeed.

  • yawn...so are interweb 'tards.

  • i hope there's going to be a live action hellboy 2

  • there is, it's called the golden army. But yeah this shit looks pretty fuckin fly!

  • i was hoping the animation would be better for the second film

  • have you watched anything on Saturday morning recently? The animation in this and the Sword of Storms is 100x better then the crap they push on those time slots.

  • When do we get to see this?? Loved the first one and with this, Pans Labyrinth & Hellboy 2 filming in my favourite country (Hungary) and my old hometown (London) it's going to be a great 2007!
