I agree this whole album ROCKED. Right after it though, they got rid of half the band and replaced 'em with two new guys and the second album just wasn't good at all. I was pretty distraught. I even found the the lead singer's solo album and it also did nothing for me. Sad.
Great song, first saw it on request video, late 80s early 90s after school, that was show to watch new music channel 56 kdoc orange county! Ha great times and bong tokes!
To Lawlow1978: there was an ABC tv special back in 1990 or 1991 (can't remember which), a late night concert series that featured SOF. It was the first time I had ever seen them. I was blown away at the talent. This band should have been even more famous, didn't get the push they needed from the record label. Maybe they were a little ahead of their time! I hated to hear the news of Josh's passing. I've got his solo album Inarticulate Nature Boy. Loved their music then, still love it now!
Later that year his band played for us at school and they were so professional --then we started to get it. Years later after school of fish I met up with Josh after his solo concert. He was still this really nice guy --unfazed by fame. Still down to earth. Kind, etc...I am glad you all like his music. I just wanted to explain what a really nice guy he was. Please check your testicles as another said --this should not have happened. There is a 95% survival rate. I miss him.
As I said on the other one: the comments here are nice to read. I went to high school with Josh. He was one of the nicest persons I ever met. He was kind to everyone. He was really into music then --had a band, etc. However, I do not think we realized just how talented he was even back then. He and I would often talk about Sting and Omar Hakim as I was into percussion.
As I said in a comment regarding another SOF song, this band is TOTALLY underrated and I wonder if Josh had lived if the band would have rivaled or surpassed the RHCP. So many great licks, hooks, lyrics, harmonies. Thanks SOF!
this is the quintessential 90's song, very underated band--school of fish, whipping boy and eels should get more mainstream success, but then again maybe their ambiguity makes them that much more special.
That whole School of Fish album was a masterpiece of songwriting and production. I was very sad to learn about Josh Clayton-Felt being taken at such a young age. Not sure he would have made it big in the standard music industry; he was too much into real music from the heart, not producing a bunch of mindless bubble-gum.
"I was very sad to learn about Josh Clayton-Felt being taken at such a young age."
Me too. Even though I don't even have a fraction of the talent that he had, I intend to live each day of my life to the fullest and overcome any obstacles that come my way just for him. That's how much he has touched my life.
glentubin, Live 105 KITS! With Big Rick, he was always the East Bay guy. Then you had Alex Bennett and Lori Thompson in the AM! Great memories! Mark Hamilton the limey DJ spinning early 90's hits!
The lead guitarist, Michael Ward, went on to play with The Wallflowers, which I think is really cool. Still, I think he and Josh exhibit great teamwork in this video.
I remember seeing them playing this tune on "ABC in concert " in 91. I was hoping someone had uploaded that version here on youtube. 91 was a great year for music, Great memories.
If Josh Clayton-Felt were still alive today I can't imagine where he would be at musically. This was one talented guy to say the least. RIP buddy. I'll have a pancake for you.
I heard this song on the radio about 3 weeks back. I was about to go pick-up lunch from a diner. I sat in my car until the song was over and I knew the band. Awesome song. Pure 90's. Listening to it is like a time machine.
Yes indeed. Pure 90's. We had good music back then, didn't we? Wish I could say the same about most of the music they're putting out now, but I'll stop there.
Unfortunately, I got my two months' notice from my employer last week and in the process of job hunting again, so it looks like I'll be seeing the doctor sooner while I still have health insurance. Thankfully, it appears that thing I was telling you all about is almost gone. Even though this is the only song that I've heard so far, words cannot describe how much Josh's life and work have touched my own life. Peace out, Josh.
I was so miss them. many years ago I got a tape of these song, and love every song at those young days.right now I still have it,but without tape player.any one got the mp3? 1 3 strange days 2 euphoria 3 fell 4 king of the dollar 5 rose colored glasses 6 speechless 7 talk like strangers 8 under the microscope 9 wrong
I noticed a small lump on one of my testes a couple days ago and I'm going to see the urologist this Thursday. Hopefully, it's nothing serious, but if it is, I intend to beat it no matter what. That's how much Josh has touched my life.
Turns out it's not on the testicle, it's on the epydidimus (sp?). More importantly, it's not malignant. Doctor says we'll schedule a three-month followup.
This song epitomizes the early 90s for me! Anyone else remember Request Video? I saw SoF on their last performance at RV. I wish I could find the tape of that performance! I CAN NEVER GET SICK OF THEM! Thank you for posting! Awesome!
Awesome song from a great album. This takes me back to Cornell U. and my days on that difficult hill. School of Fish and Jellyfish helped me get though all the crap then. And they still sound amazing now.
fuckken LOVE THIS SONG...............Hadnt heard it in years...its definitley one of those songs that sticks with you, unlike all the doom-and-gloom pap thats out today and wanna-be gangsta SHIT MUSIC ....how did josh clayton-felt die??? i didnt know that till i read BIKERJAKE74's comment. anyone know? oh, and i like the bass players "look".....the headband thing RULES!!!!!

Driving around Dallas in my buddies VW Corrado G60, with this song blaring just over the exhaust, those were some fun days. Shame Josh Clayton-Felt is no longer around. Great band.,
In 1991 I was 23 ...in a band in San Francisco. Hanging out at clubs, doing lots of drugs. I had many encapsulated "three strange day" packets of life. Nice little remembrance - soundtrack of that era - this song.
I woke up on the beach a few times, never on the ocean though.

As a psychiatric patient, cheryl, yes I have had this experience---I had no obligations, my mind was a blur, I did not know what to do, I had lost my motivation and maybe myself, couldn't put a smile on my face, spent hours walking around the city just waiting to come to, until they dressed me up in all of their clothes [hospital gowns] and took me somewhere else (psych ward)...this song helped keep me alive: "I've got to make it through, no matter what it takes."
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I wanted to add to my previous comment that it's been years since I felt this bad. In the '80s I used to watch 'Night Court' and as Judge Stone's mental-patient father used to say on that show, "I'm feeling MUCH better now!" (Of course he was still crazy. And I'm still a psych patient, but as long as I take the nice medicines, nobody gets hurt, bwahahahaaaaa.)
well, I was thinking more along the lines of having absolutely NO responsibilities for a few days.
When this song came out, or soon thereafter, I had been working 7 days a week, had a sonofabitch for a husband, was going to school, and I had had it!!
Hubby took the kids (who were all over age 10 by then) and I had 3 glorious days to myself. I bought some wine, called out of work, and the song says the rest.
great album, had a lot of cool songs, I played it once for some kids around 17-19 yrs old they thought it just came out and really liked it.that says something.my fav song by them is "speechless" off self titled album.
Man I loved this song back in the day! I had it played it at my wedding and everyone thought it was the weirdest song ever. My dad and his wife were the only ones who danced to it. It was amazing! We all watched them, it was a slow off beat shuffle thing that they were doing out there. My dad made this song forever cool in my eyes... as he and his lady danced....
wow, thanx for posting this. 'Back in the day' i saw this video and bought the album straight up. i still have it and in fact was listening to it just the other day.
Bands like, School of Fish, Jellyfish, the Wonderstuff, Neds Atomic Dustbin, Fetchin Bones, Jesus Jones... So many cool underated groups of this "era" in the '90's when everything was so "Grunge"
I used to sneak out with my boyfriend ( who has died since) and we would drive around the city and listen to this song! It brings back good memories. I wish I could find the download!
Yep, but Fecal Matter was basically Nirvana without Dave Grohl or Chad Channing, or at least the Fecal Matter I'm thinking of. Green River and Mother Love Bone were great as well.
By the way a TON of people know Temple of the Dog. Just play Hunger Strike and they know it. They play it alot where I live. School of Fish isn't as known here. I think there's alot of really good bands nobody has heard of. Check out Sick Nurse and Red Pyramid. Sick Nurse did a cover of Fecal Matter's Bambi Slaughter,it's on Youtube.
Thank you SOOOO FRIGGIN' MUCH!!!!!!! this is one of my most FAVOURITE songs from back in the day...I've never seen this video...dude is SUCH a QT!!!!!!! Anyone know what they're doing / where they are now?
Saw this band at Leeds University in 1992 opening for Crowded House. They were a truly great band. Great to see Michael Ward still playing great guitar in Ben Harper's band theses days. RIP Josh Clayton-Felt !
Crikes..........good times.good times. Saw these guys back in 91ish in a small venue in Fresno Cali....got to meet them and intriduce them to the great alaskan experience......miis them much...
Thanks so much for the post.

I bought some wine, called out of work, and the song says the rest.

diagreen, don't take this the wrong way, but, everyone use to drive around and smoke a ton listening to every song.... all the time.... lol.
By the way, add "&fmt=18" to this and it will sound even better. 44100.

Along with Temple of the dog, they're probably one of the greatest bands of the 90's that nobody has ever heard of.
strylowskia90 3 years ago
Fecal Matter,Oleander, and Reel Big Fish are also in that group...
Thevideopyramidhead1 3 years ago
Yep, but Fecal Matter was basically Nirvana without Dave Grohl or Chad Channing, or at least the Fecal Matter I'm thinking of. Green River and Mother Love Bone were great as well.
strylowskia90 3 years ago
Fecal Matter was without Krist Novoselic too...
Just Dale Crover and Kurdt...
I might be able to see Dale when the Melvins come to town..
Mother Love Bone is the definition of grunge.
Green River=Mudhoney...
Thevideopyramidhead1 3 years ago
By the way a TON of people know Temple of the Dog. Just play Hunger Strike and they know it. They play it alot where I live. School of Fish isn't as known here. I think there's alot of really good bands nobody has heard of. Check out Sick Nurse and Red Pyramid. Sick Nurse did a cover of Fecal Matter's Bambi Slaughter,it's on Youtube.
Thevideopyramidhead1 3 years ago
Yeah, I live in a small town in Maryland, some people here don't even know who Soundgarden is. But I'll check out sick Nurse and Red Pyramid.
strylowskia90 3 years ago
Man,not even Soundgarden?!
I live in Atlanta so we have a ton of shoddy rap and country. But we do have one good station where we can listen to actual music.
Sick Nurse has a myspace and youtube. Red Pyramid only has a myspace. They're profile picture will be yellow with an R in it.
