Tim, than maybe you have an answer for this question. These verses you use to say that Christ spoke more about hell (Gehenna) than He did heaven to the Jews, thats right he spoke about Gehenna to the Jews alone, so my question is this. Why didnt the apostel Paul warn the gentiles about the judgement of Gehenna? Acts 20:27 says Paul taught us all what God wants us to know, but why didnt he warn the gentiles about the fires of Gehenna? I know why, I just want to hear your responce.
I find the answer simple in this simple idea: God, because He IS, is worthy of whatever it is He desires, since, without Him, there isn't. But, because He is what we describe as "love", he desires for things with a will to exist. for without ANOTHER will, He cannot be worshipped by things that are like what He is. Therefore, with the creation of another will, another desire--that is, not of God--must be made possible.
Those who are not saved are those who stay at their will. all it takes.
Christianity: The belief that a cosmic Jewish zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him that you accept him as your master so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree.
It makes perfect sense.
Atheism: the understanding that none of the above can be true; the acceptance that life is life and death is death. Peace.
@StrumstickJoe The comment that so many atheists think is clever, and so spam everything remotely religious trying to look clever but failing terribly.
Christian: the ability to forgive such acts of douchebagery. Real peace.
@TheDrtruth I don't think it's clever - just concise; and it is impossible to deny the truth of it - that is what you believe. It must hurt to hear it so phrased.
If you want to have a purpose to your life – and I would encourage you so to do – then make damn sure it is a purpose decided by YOU, and not by witch-doctors and priests, (especially long-dead, primitive ones), and certainly not by ignorant charlatans like Keller, Piper and Zachrias!
@StrumstickJoe, we are just encouraged by those charlatans. the initial belief comes from our OWN belief that what we believe as "good" comes from God. when you believe that simple idea, it takes nothing to believe that Jesus was and is God.
we forget these things in our thinking some times and become discouraged because we're not drinking from the fountain we're used to. being reminded, therefore, ultimately results in encouragement.
but, yes, the ONLY explanation is that we're robots...
@Sudhish86 I don't understand you. Your thinking seems very muddled.
I don't believe in the supernatural, nor in the fulfillment of any prophecy that has ever been made - ever. Belief in that stuff is bad and retrogressive - immoral and dangerous.
We live, we die, we return to the stars that made us. There is no aim or design.
@StrumstickJoe Immoral? You do realize morality/human rights are grounded in religion right? You want dangerous, look to the disciples of Nietzche who educated Europe into the Holocaust and the Russian Revolution that killed scores of Russians in the following years. Believe or not, but understand that if you choose Naturalism you lose the your right to voice any judgement on right or wrong.
@polycarp256 "I believe that I am acting in accordance with the will of the Almighty Creator: by defending myself against the Jew, I am fighting for the work of the Lord.." -Mein Kampf. By what bizarre thought-process do you conclude that the billions who have lived outside of your weird sect in the last 1.9 m yrs have been immoral.
Morality and human decency are not derived from religion. They precede it.
@StrumstickJoe Hitler was not a Christian, read Dietrich Bonhoeffers biography. Germany was the center of theological thought during the 19th and early 20th century, he had to "appease" the populace with notions of God. Hitler was a Nietcheite and was some what paganistic but regardless religion was a means of power. Im sorry your misinformed. But any serious Atheist understands that notions of morality and human right are just human fabrications outside of God. Bentham, Milosz,
@StrumstickJoe Yes. I really do not understand why that is a hard concept. If God exists then we have worth and value; if he does not then we are just chemistry and motion and have no more value than your tree and rock. You say there is no God, so you have no credibility to make any comment on just vs. unjust. You dont. As far as its not a good idea to kill your own kind, thats not how evolution works. There are numerous species that prey on their own kind. Evolution depends
@StrumstickJoe upon the strong oppressing the weak.Which was Hitlers justification for the Holocaust. You can be an Athiest but you forfiet your right to rights. Once again, you are in the lonely minority. Jeremy Bentham, Nieztche, Bertrand Russell, David Hume, Oscar Wilde, Aldous Huxley, right on down to my favorite Christopher Hitchens all agree that Naturalism leaves no room for morality. Maybe I was not clear but the afore mentioned men are the "Apostles" of atheism if you wil
@polycarp256 CH is one of the most articulate men I have ever known. His thoughts and opinions were crystal clear.
It is impossible - as he said - to be an apostle of atheism, because it is not a belief. My principles are not a faith. We need no outside force to rely on - it is liberating to take responsibility for everything you have and do, and to not, ever, blame anyone for anything.
Bye now.
To make decisions about the nature of the universe, we dispose of needless assumptions
@StrumstickJoe Yes Atheism is a belief. "a" "theos", without god. You are making the claim that there is no god. With such a statement you are then required to defend that statement. Ill spare you the odyessy that many before your time have traveled and just tell you what you will discover. There is no more evidence for god not existing as there is for god existing. Faith is the final requirement for both of these worldviews. Do not fool yourself into thinking that you have any
@polycarp256 Watch "best of hitchslap" if it won't upset you too much. He despised your cult's presumption of monopoly on morality; he rightly called all the faiths immoral.
I personally think that the human race keeps moral because it's largely a good idea. But to say your faiths, with their continuing trails of blood, have any claim at all to morality, is to delude yourself hopelessly.
@StrumstickJoe Once again, you are horribly misrepresenting religion and faith as if they are all of the same mold. They are not. You are as well still fooling yourself into believing that morality somehow exists apart from the belief in the divine. But, I see you finally do understand that morals at the very most in Atheism are simply a "good idea". Ive watched most of CH debates, interviews, etc. I really do enjoy him because he is an intelectually honest Atheist who genuinly
@StrumstickJoe seeks the truth and is not just some bandwagon naturalist that feels belief in God is somehow primitive. However I do disagree, as I do with you over the definition of Atheism. It is certainly faith based. Peter Hitchens, CH's brother who is a evangelical Christian drives this point home very well. Isnt that amazing how the former heavyweight of New Atheism has an equally witty and brillant brother who is a Christian? Almost as if somebody planned it beforehand eh?
@polycarp256 , not in his own mind. But, he's the millionth person I've seen who has called religion dangerous, wishful-thinking, or retrogressive...when I only talked about the existence of God...he jumped to saying those robotic lines...
the original definition of religion: the body of persons adhering to a particular set of beliefs and practices.
This was dropped in order to allow trendy atheism and professional science slip by.
atheists are robots who think reason preceeds knowledge
@polycarp256 If you think that atheism is a religion then you misunderstand what religion really is. It is the childish belief that a soul exists in every body and still exists after that body has died; you think it has eyes and knees and grovels in heaven for ever.
That is the slavery you subscribe to; that is what you think everyone should want. Well listen, I would despise and loathe your offer of eternity, it repulses me and I am glad it is only fantasy.
@StrumstickJoe more reason or intelect than Theists or even pagans for that matter. I choose God you choose annihilation. Only one of us can be right. This dilemma has been going on for ages and always it comes down to Man making his choice. But, it's so ironic you claim that you are somehow more enlightened even though you need just as much faith as any Theist, if not more.
@StrumstickJoe even Hitchens etc. You are intelectually dishonest and are in the minority when it comes to the debate of morality apart from God. The point is though, that you and I both know that morality and right and wrong do exist therefore the only logical explanation is that they derive from a higher source.
@StrumstickJoe You are a dying breed my friend. This hard atheism you are espousing, and do not seem to even grasp the conclusions of it, is morally and inteletcually bankrupt. After 100 years of war and genocide by the godless, we have caught on. Why do you think Dawkins is afraid to debate Craig? Because when it comes to explaining how the world really is Dawkins and the other Horseman fall desperatly wanting.
@Sudhish86, I don't understand you when you say, "we return to the stars that made us."where did you get this notion?
and in response to "what about your version?", it is obvious that A God exists, since this world is made of finite, dependent properties and had a definite beginning due to density and conservation. Therefore, since I believe "morality" exists, the only objective standard would be God's will, since, if it were anything else, it would still need God to create what it refers to.
@StrumstickJoe, you do not account for how a finite, dependent world comes to being in the first place...>_>
We will be absorbed due to conservation, but that does not account for the source of "morality". it cannot be concluded as being of us since it requires discipline to merely be aware of it.
@Sudhish86 You believe that a cosmic Jewish zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him that you accept him as your master so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree.
@StrumstickJoe, no. that's your vain re-imaging of the Bible. dur.
Yes, you're diluded because you're consciously ignoring the unaccountability of what you're proposing and making up a thought process to poke fun at.
It's funny, but irrelevent.
So, now, please respond to me based JUST on what I have said. or, rather, just stop being a bastard child who is too stupid and carnal to see the world outside his feelings and desires.
@Sudhish86 I am proposing nothing. I have nothing to propose. Forgive my poking fun, but faith is an easy target; it has no basis in reality. You were very rude to me; did you learn that in church? Faith is belief without evidence, also known as gullibility. Science is belief with evidence, also known as reason.
We do not need your beliefs, they are retrogressive and dangerous.
This is the life - we need no more. (Afterlife is a stupid concept based on wish-thinking)
@StrumstickJoe, you're stupid. reality? if reason were the basis for reality, there would be no way around sollipsism. you have faith that it is not the case, because perception and inference is what shapes reality.Idc if I was rude to you, since everything you're saying is baseless and unaccountable. It takes no faith to believe in the mere existence of God, as that is the default conclusion from the state of this world. You have a childish understanding of "science". dangerous? in what sense?
@d3ltadrive Jesus is our spiritual food indeed, and He is truly present, under the appearance of bread and wine. According to His command, the bread truly becomes His body, the wine His blood. This is the teaching of the apostles and the church fathers.
@386ABC May I offer a suggestion? You may disagree with Tim Keller (which if you are in this capacity actually makes you a heretic) is fine, but to say that he doesn't know his bible is nothing short of idiotic. I don't like being harsh, but your statement just discredits any argument you may have had.
@CosmicDamian You would have to ask Tim. I don't know off the top of my head where he stands on the issue. To claim that heresy includes the doctrines of transubstantiation would be a bit of a stretch (to put it kindly). The RC position of transubstantiation as spelled out by the Fourth Lateran Council in 1215 vs. Luther's consubstantiation vs. Calvin's emphasis on remembrance is of interesting debate. I personally hold to Calvin's understanding, but feel God is present in the ceremony.
@becuz1 To refute the RC (and Orthodox) position on real presence of the Lord in the Eucharist makes your use of the words "heresy" and "orthodoxy" in any context a bit of a strech.
@CosmicDamian To say that the RC church's teaching today as orthodoxy is a bit of a stretch. There are serious problems in the RC church that even I wasn't made aware of until recently. Have a look at the 1996 Confession of the RC church and it reads WELL outside of orthodoxy, even by traditional Catholic standards. My standard of orthodoxy is the Bible, not the panderings of men that want to please an increasing politically correct culture. We practice the Lord's Supper weekly, to His glory
@becuz1 I think you are confused as to the meaning of the word orthodoxy. RC church is the standard bearer of Christian teaching, and has been for the last 2000 years. Your reliance on the Bible is of course correct, but you seem not to appreciate that what comprises the New Testament was decided by a council of Catholic Bishops... Anyway...W hat is this "1996 Confession" you describe? I can find no references to it, do you have a link, or search terms you can share?
Paul is speaking to believers and therefore this applies to believers.
Jesus spoke of eternal torment and the flame of fire for those that were dead. This is in synch with outerdarkness and weeeping and gnashing teeth for eternity outside of Gods presence will feel like fire.
@386ABC Can you not see by the very last sentence you wrote that this teaching is not that of God, but of Satan? For if what you say is true, then suicide is a good thing. No Christian would ever stand behind such a terrible teaching.
@becuz1 "no christian would stand behind such a terrible teaching" ... hahahahah.. you serious? YOU stand behind - and ferverently endorse a teaching - that declares that Jesus is going to ruthlessly torture men women and children in literal fire, for trillions of unending aions without mercy and without ANY redemptive purpose in mind - AND, you call this 'good news'! It boggles the mind.
@etherform66 First and foremost, if you don't believe in the orthodox teachings of eternal hell, you are considered a heretic. Hell is mentioned numerous times in the bible, including Jude 7, 13; Matt. 8:12; 13:42, 50; 22:13; 24:51; 25:30; 2 Thess.1:7-9; 2 Peter 3:7; 1 Thess.5:3; Rev. 20:10; Luke 16:23. Your problem is that you want to save God from Himself, you want to dictate to God that in order to be loving, He cannot possibly punish willing sinners for eternity. Good news is Jesus!
@becuz1 haha.. first and foremost the word 'hell' is both a word and a doctrine buit upon a word that does not appear one single time in the original hebrew and greek. The word hell is translated from 4 words - sheol, hades, gehenna and tatarus. Which one of these words scripturally expresses a state of everlasting torment in flames? do tell.
@386ABC "Weeping and gnashing of teeth is about THIS life" Christian creativity never cease to amaze me. No wonder we have hundreds of versions of christianity. If people can bend words in order to mean anything they like, then Jesus is truly the personal savior, a delusion that can be customized to suit any personal desire. All you need is faith and the assumption that the voice inside in your head is not, in fact, you.
@386ABC You want to explain to me the Lake of Fire, which is the second death? And how the worm NEVER dies, and the fire is not quenched? And what about the weeping and gnashing of teeth?
Or what about how Jesus said it would for them on Sodom and Gomorrah, or better for someone to have a milstone hung around their neck and them cast into the sea, then the various sinners he was talking about?
Is a very nice revelation from God that deals with why we are here in this physic reality where there is evil and suffering. NEWMESSAGE(.org) Special teachings, part of a very recent message from God, Hell does not exist, it is a human invention.
Not that I doubt your sincerity, but that position seems ill-informed. Jesus spoke numerous times about the need to follow him to achieve salvation. Passages like Matthew 25:41 are unambiguous: "Then he will say to those on his left, 'Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels" The great danger is that ignoring this part of the gospel could prevent souls being saved and entering eternal life, so we should be extremely careful in these interpretations.
heres the thing...... Jesus NEVER spoke about 'hell'! The two words He used in the original Greek were 'gehenna' - a garbage dump outisde Jerusalem where everything from common trash to executed criminals were thrown, and the word Hades - which is synonomus with the word Sheol - both words refer to the common grave of ALL men. Jesus NEVER spoke on 'hell' look for yourself - eternal damnation is a lie used by clergy to get your obedience and cash.. the days are numbered for this evil doctrine..
@etherform66 Hell dies not exist, it is a human invention. This is confirmed in a NEW MESSAGE that God has sent to humanity. When a pure message is given in an i,pure world, the message is always changed abused misinterpreted. This new message is stil pure, that needs to be shared. His messages are rare and important for our development that is at stake right now.NEWMESSAGE(.org)
@worldwiderelease hi there. you are spot on when you say that 'hell does not exist', that is, a place of endless torment designed by a loving all powerful creator. This message however is not new. Ultimate reconcilliation was the prevailing doctrine for the first three centuries after Christs death and ressurection. It was corrupted and eventually buried in lies and misleading translations of words. You cant get peoples cash & obedience when you preach UR - so it was changed by higher authorities
@etherform66 Hi,that is good to know, reconciliation is to have no enemies, that is true spirituality, it is unexpected but I meant a very recent message from God, the greatest ever given to humanity because we are entering a very difficult future, and we are unprepared. We also face competition from races from our local universe. God does not like to see our civilization fail. That is why God has spoken again.NEWMESSAGE(.org)
You need Christ to be saved, unless you have not heard the gospel. You have a choice, Christ or you, the world or God. If you choose your flesh and cannot embrace self denial for he that took on the wrath for you, then you will die in sin. Case closed.
@pablocoon Unless you have not heard the gospel >> What a silly comment; This remind me of a story. A priest, cross lifted high, approached the Innuit people, and told them about the bible, christ etc, and you have to believe it or you go to hell for all eternity. One elder took his pipe out of his mouth. Father, You mean all our ancestors are in hell. Oh no, the father replied, they did not know. The Elder again: SO WHY DID YOU TELL US ??
Answer: In Calvinism, God Purposely Decreeds for Man to come into Existance DEAD, INVOLUNTARILY created to love SIN from the moment of conception, having NO ABILITY to repent or beg for mercy, the vast majority FATED for DAMNATION, PREDESTINED to burn forever, CHOSEN for Eternal Punishment, "Before having done anything either good or bad" for "His good pleasure" with a ZERO chance of Salvation.
@apollos6640 Everything God created originally was good (NOT dead or loving sin). After the original sin, though, we are all born into sin. The amazing thing is that God chooses to save any of us. You seem to be implying (judging by your word emphasis) that God's grace ought to be required (he *must* save everyone). That wouldn't be grace, which is undeserved and free by definition.
thanks Tim.....Its great to know that you know what god wants and will do... amazing! It's nice to know that you look at a 3000 year old book as if it was written by god,,,,,feeble thinking.....
What does 3000 years have to do with whether God 'wrote' it or not? I think to load Timothy Keller with the presupposition that he thinks that the Bible was written by God 3000 years ago is false. The Bible was divinely inspired by God, written by men living in a particular historical and geographical context over a large number of years. Timothy Keller, as a Christian, declares that he has necessary information given by God to save him. What is feeble about that?
@ScientologySucksAss nut jobs? you're the one calling people nut jobs who aren't even bothering you. If we were looking at this in a psychological sense I would say that you're displaying sings of being a nut job from acting with a defensive behavior when it appears no ones attacking you.
I'm with OSUdude.. The bible plainly states there is a hell. We can't disregard this because it makes us uncomfortable. Jesus wasn't put on this earth to make you feel 'comfortable', nor was the bible written for that reason.. If you don't put your trust in Jesus, and become a new creation, you WILL be cast into the lake of fire.. And the Bible plainly states, it is FIRE. Eternal separation from Gods spirit. GOD WILL NOT BE IN HELL! You can't repent at that time.. Why? You are separated from th
What about John 6 and 10? While what Keller says is true and accurate, nevertheless it is not simply to be inferred that not all will be saved. I thank God that He has saved me by His grace, that He chose me in Christ before the foundation of the world.
The Bible does not teach eternal punishment. God's love and mercy endures forever. Does it really endure forever or only in this life? How can it be Good News if it doesn't translate to the afterlife? God will still judge but He will not punish forever. Join in at whatthehellbook . com
1 Tim. 4:10 This is why we work hard and continue to struggle, for our hope is in the living God, who is the Savior of all people and particularly of all believers.
Universal salvation was for me a heresy, people pleasing idea until I saw passages like this.
Romans 5:19 "for as through the disobedience of the one man,THE MANY were constituted sinners: so also through the obedience of the one, shall THE MANY be constituted righteous."
If you take the book of revelation as the end of Gods plan then of course universal salvation would not make sense; but if you look at Paul's writings and see God will be "all in ALL" then you see love Never fails.
@mbrain9 If you don't want to be challenged about what you believe then go and live in your cave and continue the pointless fantasy of eternal damnation. Please take your pick from the many different and varying hell stories people have come up with on the internet.
And no I will speak my mind to anyone who crosses me I don't care who they are. I do not fear man or god.
@Intraverseneptune God explicitly states in the bible that the " wages of sin is death" and if everyone were going to be saved there would be no reason for God to send his son to die for our sins that we could have eternal life. Hell is real and so is God. The Bible has stood as the word of truth for thousands of years, what gives you the right to think you are right about anything. The sad thing is Hell is real, and you are going there. Not fearing God or man is a dangerous and scary thing
@mbrain9 I am very casual in the usage of the term 'mentally retarded'. Please don't take the language I'm using as implying you are really brain damaged its just a quib.
@mbrain9 With that useless reply you have just shown you know nothing about me and my relationship with God. You have just lost the right to speak to me.
Oh by the way you might want to count the number of books in the bible.
@mbrain9 Thats not what all the other wackos believe they think people really get burned forever!!!!!! You are a hell regressive watering it down for it to be more believable. No they don't burn forever they just suffer mental anguish forever for stealing that chocolate bar. Hahahah!!!!
Remember the path is narrow! You have been warned God will turn you into a mental case!!!!
nobody is burning in hell for eternity because you cannot burn spirits. There are no people burning in hell for eternity for believing or doing the wrong thing. people who believe this are mentally retarded.
Whatever any one believes about hell, I think we CAN gather not everyone will go to heaven, choice. Hell is eternal separation from 'the kingdom', whether the soul/spirit (whatever) is tormented forever or is snuffed out of existence.
The cross is past, the blood is shed, the tomb is empty, the Savior is risen, the Redeemer is ascended, and the coming King is seated at the right hand of power. The act of redemption is over, will not be repeated again, and if Christ came to save and redeem anyone, then either He did, or He did not. If He did, then shouldn't it be the obligation of preachers to preach Him successful, instead of talking of redemption as either ongoing, or future ?
Father God will never cast you away permanently. That doctrine of eternal punishment{hell} denies Jesus is the Saviour of the world JOHN 4:42 COL 1:19-20.
It is pagan teaching read into the scriptures from preconceptions born of fear.
Perfect love casts out fear.
"For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him" JOHN 3:17
Time waits 4 no man and the love of God ,the love He has 4 all people continues as His plan2 save all in Christ unfolds.
@barrychristianson The problem is you are picking and choosing through scripture, right under John 3:17 in verse 18 it says "whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in God's one and only Son." In Matthew 25:46 "and those will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life." Revelation 20:15 "and if anyone's name was not found in the Book of Life, he was thrown into the lake of fire."
@OSUdude6791 Yes that is true{REV 20;15}everyone not believing in him will be thrown into the lake of fire. This lake of fire is the judgement{condemnation all are under}.It is a time of repentance for all who have to that event{ that time in history} have not trusted in the saviour of the world{JOHN 3:16}.
Of course they continue to be condemned to go through that event {verse 18} for they have not trusted in their deliverer their Saviour Jesus who the Father has sent. These people go through
God's judgement is corrective and will lead to repentance and faith in the saviour{REV 20:11,REV 21:27} For .MATH 25:46 Suggest you read Ch 17 in the book God's Plan For All regarding the mistranslating of" "aionios" and the doctrine of hell being read into the bible from pagan beliefs. If one believes in an everlasting hell then it is impossible to believe Jesus is the Saviour of the world and so denyingJOHN 3 :17,16,18 its full meaning is a wayout
@barrychristianson I think you have been reading too much Rob Bell and have taken the plunge for a modern day view that doesnt want to offend anyone, rather than understanding scripture for what it is. If what you are saying is true, everyone could live however they wanted, only to repent as soon as they begin to get punished in the afterlife. That theory makes no sense. Jesus is the savior of the world, but only for those who ask him for forgiveness. If you deny him, he will deny you as well.
@OSUdude6791 What I am teaching is good news for all people will be redeemed{saved}.In fact all people have already been redeemed in the true sense of "redeemed".They have been bought by the death and resurrection of Jesus on the cross.See one of my short videos for the comment following by Nescaman which summarises this great truth so elegantly.Christ is the Saviour of the world.JOHN 4:42 and it will be a rude shock to many religious ones when in the future they find that is true.
The Spirit and the bride say."Come!"And let him who hears say "Come!"Whoever is thirsty, let him come;and whoever wishes, let him take the free gift of the water of life.
When that time in history comes beginning for most at their resurrection{the secondresurrection] let all people know they have a loving father God who offers them Life through Jesus the Saviour of the world{kosmos}.Everyone will thirst and only the Living Water will satisfy. All people will know of His great love.
I really do hate religious people like the ones responding to this video. I laugh at the endless fallacies that you require in order to verbally spit on people who point out the numerous flaws in your "faith" and the bible.
@CarlosMarti123 Noahs ark is a flaw in the bible. It is odvious bullshit. Or johna living in the stomach of a whale. Harry Potter is more believable than the myths in the bible. The only reason that you beleive in god is that you are afraid to die. Grow some balls become an athiest.
So BigBob you are right to have reservations about "hell' .You could not come to God under your own steam and neither can anyone else.
That calling is when and howGod decides 1Cor 15 :20-28. and there is much in the bible to indicate it has all been worked out even before "time" began. That I believe is the true meaning about "predestination".All people are predestinated to be saved but God has an order for each person that He has predestined to occur at t correct time for them2believein Christ
BigBob2o No human heart is of and by itself humble.Only our creators hand and intervention in our lives makes it possible to respond to Him.
The Apostle Paul had his damascus experience when he was full bore after christians to stamp them out because they challenged his concept of god.Jesus revealed Himself to Paul {Saul}.For others God does no less but tailored to them.Jesus reveals Himself.Conviction is deep within +highly personal in nature st no other may share t same intimate t withGod
Respond to this video... Anyone reacting negatively to this video have their eyes blinded to the truth. Only those who have turned from their sin to receive what was done for them by Jesus on the cross, are able to understand the truth of the gospel. It only takes a small amount of faith but if you harden your hearts then you will live in darkness unable to understand truth. Those who are angry...it is between you and God, so take up your fight with Him. John 3:16
@Zenthor2112 There in lies the problem, the god you know well is the enemy, Satan, the father of lies. If you truly knew the one true God, through Jesus you could not write what you did.
To me of all the Christian doctrines hell bothers me the most. I consider myself Christian but it's a hard pill to swallow.
First the majority of the world isn't Christian. Our of the 6 billion or so people on the planet only 1.(something) are Christian. The other 5 billion are lost. And we will never be able to convert that large portion. We have a hard enough time doing it where Christianity is "common".
@BigBobsh2o Christ died for everyone. God has the power to reveal Jesus to everyone .What sets Christianity apart from all religions; no other god was raised from the dead. Jesus is God or He is a liar and lunatic. A heart that is humble enough to want to know the truth, God will reveal Jesus to him. Pride keeps us from knowing the truth. I met a Muslim that said, Jesus revealed himself in a dream, he let go of his religious pride and turned from his sin. Numbers are nothing for God. John3:16
And wouldn't other people who converted to Islam say the same thing? Or others who convert to other religions? You can't go on feelings alone. I'm sure there are many out there that believe that God himself pointed them to some religion other than Christianity.
As humans our minds can lead us to all sorts of different directions. For better or for worse.
@BigBobsh2o Yes, you are right we can be deceived and our intellect can lead us in different directions. Sometimes it almost seems too simplistic ; intellect tends to get in the way. I know that when I trusted Jesus, God opened my eyes to truth, not before, that is why it takes faith and humility. "For God so loved the [world] that He gave His only Son, whoever believes..." He is God, you can believe Him or not. He forces no one but loves all and has provided one way to heaven, Jesus alone.
@BigBobsh2o There is no way to explain what others may say but when you come to Jesus you just know that this is something bigger than you, not a feeling because the change that takes place is not humanly possible. Religion is about your goodness, your good works, Christianity says that no one is good but all are loved, all sin and fall short but Christ make us good enough to come before a Holy God. Arrogance keeps us from asking God to show us if Jesus is the only way to God, that and fear.
@BigBobsh2o We can't just believe the easy parts of the Bible because it is all God's, living word. That is why faith and trust are so important. Death and hell are not comfortable but God made a way for us to avoid death and have eternal life with Him...for all who believe and call on the name of Jesus. I don't know anyone willing to go to the cross for me or you...only Jesus. All history pointed to the coming Messiah and it was faith that allowed all to believe. Revelation 14:6-12
Time to read it again and like a small child trust God.
That one last lost sheep ? Jesus never gives up till He finds it.
Thats why on the early Christians grave stones you see the engraving of Jesus carrying the lost sheep. They believed that Jesus would save all. What has transpired since then? They had a simple believing faith.
the Gehenna to come will be no picnic. There is a a preferable way. To say however that a parent cannot discipline His children in love would deny that parent and therefore the child of
a healthy relationship.
Jesus in dying and rising again wasnt a just one off demonstration of the love of God.God didnt after much struggle and striving and inner turmoil summon the ability to love us that much 2 send His Son 2 die for us .
Gehenna being the Lake of Fire is inevitable for those who despise the Son of God Jesus sacrifice on the cross to die and rise again so that all people may be saved and enter the Fathers House the eternal kingdom of God where righteousness dwells.'But the LOFire is for an age and has a finish when all come to repentance+ faith
Why wouldnt you want all people to be saved or are they just "fools"' for not having the religious smarts at this time in their life.
Gehenna matth 5:21. Jesus talks of various "levels"of judgement ,correction or pulling into gear for wrong actions like murder then He addresses the wicked heart that hates his brother finally the attitude that dismisses others with "Thou fool".That has ""INEVITABLE"" ="ge"" the first part of gehenna = ""ge" hinnom coming to correct them in love in what was well known as a Hinnom type event that the jews experienced at thehands of invading armies. "ge"" also means inevitable, sure , certain.
But not one person will be physically burnt in Gehenna. This is the destroying of the old man ie conversion, repentance under the consuming purifying "fire" of God.It is a coming into the "presence' of God through God given faith in the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross.PHIL 2 :2-10 every knee shall upon true repentance bow willingly and thankfully to Jesus the Saviour of the world 1JOHN 2:2-4.All are humbled under the mighty hand of God each one at the time the Father appoints 1 COR 15:20-28
@barrychristianson May God bless you gtrjunky with all things that lead you to a deep relationship with Jesus the Saviour of all mankind. That all may become in time your fellow brothers and sisters when at their appointed time they are given repentance and God given faith in the work of Jesus on the cross.
God has predetermined no less,Your part is guarenteed for Father God knows us inside out .We are a unique creation each to be adopted as a son as He planned before the creation began.
Jesus talks about the Gehenna to come. That is not "Hell" as most understand Hell.
ge=place or location of
Henna= Anglicised translation of Hinnom the local rubbish dump symbolic of judgement of the Jews where dead bodies of those slain were burnt a very great fear amongst Jews.
Today GEHINNOM is the place of a beautiful garden/park
Jesus used it to tell of the age lasting correction those people rejecting Him would endure 2 humble them in the Lakeof Fire{purification} in the GWT judgement
@gtrjunky Its amazing how you hell believing morons only worship God to avoid going to a place called hell. You do not trust Him, and where there is no trust, there is no love. You are all hypocrites.
@SwordofManticorE And how is it that you know all this? Oh that's right you don't, you're just judging our hearts. It's good to see that you have that special gift.
@gtrnumbbelowthewaist Cant answer a simple question. That's right, an expert of the bible like you should know the answer to why Christ so called preached about hell.
@gtrIhateuniversalsalvation So in other words, if a man only believes in God because he wants to avoid going to a place called hell because Christ warned of such a place and is saved, do you call that justice?
@SwordofManticorE Nope! Just like when Jesus (speaking of Judas Iscariot) said it would be better if he had never been born than for him on the day of judgement.
@gtrjunky And you call universalists morons? You change directions like a weather hen. Either the warning is of use or it isnt. Make up your mind. If Christ warned us to believe in the Father or burn for ever, than this is sound doctrine, correct?
@SwordofManticorE You see, if unbelievers are merely going to have to go stand in the corner to get "pruned" by the wet noodle of the spineless inept god of universalism than not being born at all wouldn't be a better option.
@SwordofManticorE My flesh does. I'm not going to allow my feelings dictate scripture. There are many things that God has done that disagree with my flesh but my thoughts are not His thoughts.
@gtrjunky So what, you're a brainwashed robot now? The difference between you and God is that you do not fully desire the salvation of all men. God does.
@SwordofManticorE Call it what you want. I don't mind having my evil brain washed by God. The difference between your god and my God is my God does as He pleases. Your god does as you please.
@gtrjunky Ok, lets compair. My God desires that all men be saved and will save them. Your god desires that either worship him or burn in a furnace like it is written in Dan 3:1-6. So which God is more good and forgiving than the other? Lets do the math to see who wins. About 160 bil people have lived since Adam til now and only 5 bil believed in Christ. My God wins 160 bil people to 5 bil.
@gtrjunky So what about Matthew 26:24. It doesn't in anyway support your hell doctrine. If anything, it tells me that when the truth is revealed to him, he will meet great sorrow and shame. Judas was possessed (john 13:2) and when satan left him, he realized what he had done and hung himself. What happened to him is what he deserved (Acts 1:25). Death!
Tim Keller tells the truth. Everyone SHOULD listen.
lifeInAFallenWorld22 2 days ago
Tim, than maybe you have an answer for this question. These verses you use to say that Christ spoke more about hell (Gehenna) than He did heaven to the Jews, thats right he spoke about Gehenna to the Jews alone, so my question is this. Why didnt the apostel Paul warn the gentiles about the judgement of Gehenna? Acts 20:27 says Paul taught us all what God wants us to know, but why didnt he warn the gentiles about the fires of Gehenna? I know why, I just want to hear your responce.
SwordofManticorE 1 week ago

Peace.

Region kills - save yourself.
StrumstickJoe 3 weeks ago
@StrumstickJoe, we are just encouraged by those charlatans. the initial belief comes from our OWN belief that what we believe as "good" comes from God. when you believe that simple idea, it takes nothing to believe that Jesus was and is God.
we forget these things in our thinking some times and become discouraged because we're not drinking from the fountain we're used to. being reminded, therefore, ultimately results in encouragement.
but, yes, the ONLY explanation is that we're robots...

@StrumstickJoe Immoral? You do realize morality/human rights are grounded in religion right? @Sudhish86, I don't understand you when you say, "we return to the stars that made us."where did you get this notion?
and in response to "what about your version?", it is obvious that A God exists, since this world is made of finite, dependent properties and had a definite beginning due to density and conservation. Therefore, since I believe "morality" exists, the only objective standard would be God's will, since, if it were anything else, it would still need God to create what it refers to.

@386ABC May I offer a suggestion? You may disagree with Tim Keller (which if you are in this capacity actually makes you a heretic) is fine, but to say that he doesn't know his bible is nothing short of idiotic. I don't like being harsh, but your statement just discredits any argument you may have had.
becuz1 1 month ago
@becuz1 Speaking of heresy, does Tim Keller believe in the real presence of Jesus in the Eucharist? Do you?
CosmicDamian 1 month ago
@CosmicDamian You would have to ask Tim. I don't know off the top of my head where he stands on the issue. To claim that heresy includes the doctrines of transubstantiation would be a bit of a stretch (to put it kindly). The RC position of transubstantiation as spelled out by the Fourth Lateran Council in 1215 vs. Luther's consubstantiation vs. Calvin's emphasis on remembrance is of interesting debate. I personally hold to Calvin's understanding, but feel God is present in the ceremony.
becuz1 1 month ago
@becuz1 To refute the RC (and Orthodox) position on real presence of the Lord in the Eucharist makes your use of the words "heresy" and "orthodoxy" in any context a bit of a strech.
CosmicDamian 1 month ago
@CosmicDamian To say that the RC church's teaching today as orthodoxy is a bit of a stretch. There are serious problems in the RC church that even I wasn't made aware of until recently. Have a look at the 1996 Confession of the RC church and it reads WELL outside of orthodoxy, even by traditional Catholic standards. My standard of orthodoxy is the Bible, not the panderings of men that want to please an increasing politically correct culture. We practice the Lord's Supper weekly, to His glory
becuz1 1 month ago
@becuz1 I think you are confused as to the meaning of the word orthodoxy. RC church is the standard bearer of Christian teaching, and has been for the last 2000 years. Your reliance on the Bible is of course correct, but you seem not to appreciate that what comprises the New Testament was decided by a council of Catholic Bishops... Anyway...W hat is this "1996 Confession" you describe? I can find no references to it, do you have a link, or search terms you can share?

@386ABC "last enemy to be destroyed is death ""
Paul is speaking to believers and therefore this applies to believers.
Jesus spoke of eternal torment and the flame of fire for those that were dead. This is in synch with outerdarkness and weeeping and gnashing teeth for eternity outside of Gods presence will feel like fire.
j919or 1 month ago

It boggles the mind.
etherform66 1 month ago
Good news is Jesus!
becuz1 1 month ago
@becuz1 haha.. first and foremost the word 'hell' is both a word and a doctrine buit upon a word that does not appear one single time in the original hebrew and greek. The word hell is translated from 4 words - sheol, hades, gehenna and tatarus. Which one of these words scripturally expresses a state of everlasting torment in flames? do tell.
etherform66 1 month ago
@386ABC "Weeping and gnashing of teeth is about THIS life" Christian creativity never cease to amaze me. No wonder we have hundreds of versions of christianity. If people can bend words in order to mean anything they like, then Jesus is truly the personal savior, a delusion that can be customized to suit any personal desire. All you need is faith and the assumption that the voice inside in your head is not, in fact, you.

worldwiderelease 2 months ago
Not that I doubt your sincerity, but that position seems ill-informed. Jesus spoke numerous times about the need to follow him to achieve salvation. Passages like Matthew 25:41 are unambiguous: "Then he will say to those on his left, 'Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels" The great danger is that ignoring this part of the gospel could prevent souls being saved and entering eternal life, so we should be extremely careful in these interpretations.

@apollos6640 Everything God created originally was good (NOT dead or loving sin). After the original sin, though, we are all born into sin. The amazing thing is that God chooses to save any of us.

Intraverseneptune 6 months ago
@Intraverseneptune God explicitly states in the bible that the " wages of sin is death" and if everyone were going to be saved there would be no reason for God to send his son to die for our sins that we could have eternal life. Hell is real and so is God. The Bible has stood as the word of truth for thousands of years, what gives you the right to think you are right about anything. The sad thing is Hell is real, and you are going there. Not fearing God or man is a dangerous and scary thing

Intraverseneptune 6 months ago
nobody is burning in hell for eternity because you cannot burn spirits.

Time waits 4 no man and the love of God ,the love He has 4 all people continues as His plan2 save all in Christ unfolds.
barrychristianson 8 months ago
@barrychristianson The problem is you are picking and choosing through scripture, right under John 3:17 in verse 18 it says "whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in God's one and only Son." In Matthew 25:46 "and those will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life." Revelation 20:15 "and if anyone's name was not found in the Book of Life, he was thrown into the lake of fire."
OSUdude6791 8 months ago
@OSUdude6791 Yes that is true{REV 20;15}everyone not believing in him will be thrown into the lake of fire. This lake of fire is the judgement{condemnation all are under}.It is a time of repentance for all who have to that event{ that time in history} have not trusted in the saviour of the world{JOHN 3:16}.
Of course they continue to be condemned to go through that event {verse 18} for they have not trusted in their deliverer their Saviour Jesus who the Father has sent. These people go through

@OSUdude6791 the Lake of Fire judgement.
If one believes in an everlasting hell then it is impossible to believe Jesus is the Saviour of the world and so denyingJOHN 3 :17,16,18 its full meaning is a wayout
barrychristianson 8 months ago
@barrychristianson I think you have been reading too much Rob Bell and have taken the plunge for a modern day view that doesnt want to offend anyone, rather than understanding scripture for what it is. If what you are saying is true, everyone could live however they wanted, only to repent as soon as they begin to get punished in the afterlife. That theory makes no sense. Jesus is the savior of the world, but only for those who ask him for forgiveness. If you deny him, he will deny you as well.

John 3:16
007cody5 11 months ago
@Zenthor2112 There in lies the problem, the god you know well is the enemy, Satan, the father of lies. If you truly knew the one true God, through Jesus you could not write what you did.
007cody5 11 months ago
To me of all the Christian doctrines hell bothers me the most. I consider myself Christian but it's a hard pill to swallow.
First the majority of the world isn't Christian. Our of the 6 billion or so people on the planet only 1.(something) are Christian. The other 5 billion are lost. And we will never be able to convert that large portion. We have a hard enough time doing it where Christianity is "common".
BigBobsh2o 11 months ago
@BigBobsh2o Christ died for everyone. God has the power to reveal Jesus to everyone .What sets Christianity apart from all religions; no other god was raised from the dead. Jesus is God or He is a liar and lunatic. A heart that is humble enough to want to know the truth, God will reveal Jesus to him. Pride keeps us from knowing the truth. I met a Muslim that said, Jesus revealed himself in a dream, he let go of his religious pride and turned from his sin. Numbers are nothing for God. John3:16
007cody5 11 months ago
@007cody5
BigBobsh2o 11 months ago
@BigBobsh2o Yes, you are right we can be deceived and our intellect can lead us in different directions. Sometimes it almost seems too simplistic ; intellect tends to get in the way. I know that when I trusted Jesus, God opened my eyes to truth, not before, that is why it takes faith and humility. "For God so loved the [world] that He gave His only Son, whoever believes..." He is God, you can believe Him or not. He forces no one but loves all and has provided one way to heaven, Jesus alone.
007cody5 11 months ago
@BigBobsh2o There is no way to explain what others may say but when you come to Jesus you just know that this is something bigger than you, not a feeling because the change that takes place is not humanly possible. Religion is about your goodness, your good works, Christianity says that no one is good but all are loved, all sin and fall short but Christ make us good enough to come before a Holy God. Arrogance keeps us from asking God to show us if Jesus is the only way to God, that and fear.
007cody5 11 months ago
@BigBobsh2o We can't just believe the easy parts of the Bible because it is all God's, living word. That is why faith and trust are so important. Death and hell are not comfortable but God made a way for us to avoid death and have eternal life with Him...for all who believe and call on the name of Jesus. I don't know anyone willing to go to the cross for me or you...only Jesus. All history pointed to the coming Messiah and it was faith that allowed all to believe. Revelation 14:6-12

the Gehenna to come will be no picnic.
No Father God always loves us that much.
barrychristianson 11 months ago
Gehenna being the Lake of Fire is inevitable for those who despise the Son of God Jesus sacrifice on the cross to die and rise again so that all people may be saved and enter the Fathers House the eternal kingdom of God where righteousness dwells.'But the LOFire is for an age and has a finish when all come to repentance+ faith
Why wouldnt you want all people to be saved or are they just "fools"' for not having the religious smarts at this time in their life.
But for the grace of God so go I.
barrychristianson 11 months ago
Gehenna matth 5:21. Jesus talks of various "levels"of judgement ,correction or pulling into gear for wrong actions like murder then He addresses the wicked heart that hates his brother finally the attitude that dismisses others with "Thou fool".That has ""INEVITABLE"" ="ge"" the first part of gehenna = ""ge" hinnom coming to correct them in love in what was well known as a Hinnom type event that the jews experienced at thehands of invading armies. "ge"" also means inevitable, sure , certain.
barrychristianson 11 months ago
But not one person will be physically burnt in Gehenna. This is the destroying of the old man ie conversion, repentance under the consuming purifying "fire" of God.It is a coming into the "presence' of God through God given faith in the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross.PHIL 2 :2-10 every knee shall upon true repentance bow willingly and thankfully to Jesus the Saviour of the world 1JOHN 2:2-4.All are humbled under the mighty hand of God each one at the time the Father appoints 1 COR 15:20-28

ge=place or location of
Henna= Anglicised translation of Hinnom the local rubbish dump symbolic of judgement of the Jews where dead bodies of those slain were burnt a very great fear amongst Jews.
Today GEHINNOM is the place of a beautiful garden/park
Jesus used it to tell of the age lasting correction those people rejecting Him would endure 2 humble them in the Lakeof Fire{purification} in the GWT judgement
