I remember when this test card on Channel 4 had just the IBA caption on. At bang on 09:25, it would change to IBA:CH4. Something about unitary signal: TV-AM had something also to do with Channel 4's 06:00 to 09:25 slot, despite us never seeing actually anything to do with TV-AM
Well, ITV companies used to actually insert commercials into Channel 4's output (unless if that company was on industrial action) and so had access to its unitary signal. TV-am therefore had to carry the signal before 9.25am but before then in the months leading to Channel 4's start, the IBA had control over this. In the beginning, Channel 4 never had an IBA-only caption. The IBA:CH4 caption initially would appear without the lines above and below as this would be generated from the transmitters
